I am selling my 1989 Jaguar 300HP XJS. I love this car. How much? I put 5k miles on this car in 3 months - AND I LIVE IN NYC. Car has been parked in a garage from the day it was made, the second owner had the car for nearly 20 years. I kept on the tradition of over-maintaining things. You can ask my wife, cleaning, servicing, upgrading on a weekly basis.
Why am I selling? The rare opportunity to own a vintage Ferrari has come up, and quite frankly I can't afford to garage two high end cars in NYC. If I lived in the suburbs there would be no question - I'd keep it. Perfect for the early morning drives. Long road trips. Loves long miles and high speeds. The high rev sound of the V12 engine is out of this world. Serious bidders only. I'm honest and candid and happy to answer all questions. Please inspect car to your liking. Reserve right to lower reserve price. Exterior - Paint in excellent condition. Small chips (as car collectors will be used to) that are only visible if pointed out directly. Only superficial, size of a pencil point and only through to primer. Have not seen better original paint from XJS of this year. Wheels are in perfect shape with original undamaged uncracked center jaguar caps. Interior - Very good conditions. Perfect sans 2 things. 1. Center wood slope could be replaced. Approximately $200 on ebay. 2. Piping on driver's side seat torn a bit. Another small repair. Outside of that there are NO blemishes. All wood in great condition. Dashboard in mint condition. All guages and switches and great working order. The carpets are in PERFECT condition. The original owner put cheap aftermarket carpets over the original so there are no stains in the wool whatsover. Leather is soft and uncracked which is rare for a 25 year old convertible! A/C blows cold and heat blows hot. Onboard "computer" works perfectly. Comes with stock cassette deck that is in perfect condition (sorry no Journey or Van Halen cassettes included). Engine - My jaguar mechanic told me this is the second cleanest engine compartment he's ever seen (at least I'm being honest). No rust, no dirt. Has really been taken care of. This car is stored in a closed indoor garage and is not driven in rain. Take a look for yourself and compare with others online and let me know if you've found a cleaner engine compartment. Running Order - Absolutely fantastic. Car accelerates fast, shifts perfectly, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, RUNS COOL. I did a full radiator flush and bleed a month ago. In addition to that I upgraded the auxiliary fan switch to a lower temperature trigger. Car runs well below the "N" during normal driving (in between the N and C). In bumper to bumper this runs at the bottom of the N. Please read jaguar forums for information about this - distributor and engine temperature are the 2 most important issues with this car). Service History - Extensive, approximately 20 years worth in hard paper form, including major services which are recommended by Jaguar aficiandos including the infamous distributor overhaul. Wrinkled old window sticker as well (Listed at $59k in 1989) Upgrades - Since March 2014 - 1) Upgraded growler intakes, adds around 15hp (I will include original silenced black airboxes as well if you'd like to swap back), 2) Mid resonator delete, and cat delete (car is exempt from exhaust testing because its 1989 / OBD-I vintage) - adds around 20HP, 3) new break pads, 4) New power steering high pressure hose, 5) New seals for rear differential I invite all mechanics or car guys to inspect. Jaguar working on 600-hp F-Type SVR
Thu, Apr 30 2015Thinking about buying a new Jaguar F-Type? You've got a number of supercharged engine options to choose from... and soon you'll have one more. According to Motor Trend, Jaguar and its Special Vehicle Operations unit are working on a new SVR version of the F-Type, and it's tipped to pack 600 or more horsepower. That's more than anything Jaguar (or for that matter Land Rover) has offered for public consumption to date, but follows a delineated progression of output. As it is, the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 offered at launch in the F-Type convertible was already churning out 500 metric horsepower. Then came the F-Type R coupe that bumped output up to 550, followed by the limited-edition Project 7 roadster with 575. Topping 600 would only follow naturally, then, but would give the F-Type a broad range of outputs, starting at 335 hp and nearly doubling once it hits the top. It would also handsomely eclipse the Mercedes-AMG GT S (503 hp) and Porsche 911 Turbo S (552 hp), rival the Aston Martin Vantage GT12 (592 hp), and give even the new Audi R8 V10 Plus (610 hp) a run for its money. The bigger question is what form the SVR model will take, and with what other equipment. Coupe or convertible, rear-drive or all-wheel drive, automatic or manual... it's too early to say at this point. But we can probably expect much of the equipment from Project 7 – active diff, carbon-ceramic brakes... the works – to reappear in the SVR as well.

Mon, 02 Jun 2014Jay Leno has been in a British mood recently with his videos highlighting the McLaren P1, 1962 Norton 650SS and Steve McQueen's 1956 Jaguar XKSS. He's keeping the streak alive this week with a look at driving a Jaguar XK120 in the 2014 Mille Miglia historic rally with Jaguar Design Director Ian Callum.
The video show off Jay Leno's Garage in top form. It's way more than just Jay driving the 1,000-mile route from Brescia, Italy, to Rome and back. He also includes interviews with Stirling Moss about winning the race back in 1955, and racer Martin Brundle about what it's like to drive a long-nose Jaguar D-Type this year.
Today, the Mille Miglia is only for historic cars, and it has a much more relaxed pace than the original all-out event. However, this isn't entirely a cruise. Leno seems scared at times talking about it because the drivers are free to ignore the speed limits and open the cars up as much as they are willing to. The roads aren't shut down for regular traffic, either, and things can be dangerous.
Motor Trend first to compare Jaguar XE and BMW 3 Series
Tue, Jun 30 2015How many automakers have loaded up how much ammo and taken how many shots at the BMW 3 Series? Yet here we are, decades on and at least a decade away from the 3 Series' halcyon days, waiting for someone to give the sport sedan something beyond a flesh wound. In this most recent episode of Head 2 Head, Johnny Lieberman goes to Spain to figure out if the Jaguar XE is the sedan to do it. Here the champion wears the guise of the 335i M Sport, powered by a 3.0-liter, turbocharged, inline-six with a square 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque run through a ZF eight-speed transmission. After a short time behind the wheel Lieberman quotes from a familiar hagiography, saying it's evident "just how great this car is and why it defines the segment." The all-aluminum challenger from Jaguar comes in XES trim, meaning a 3.0-liter, supercharged V6 with 340 hp and 332 lb-ft. It uses the same eight-speed transmission as the BMW, but with different programming. According to the specs in the video, some of which are manufacturer estimates, the Jaguar is heavier, more expensive, and much thirstier at the pump. Away from the spreadsheet, Lieberman holds that the XE looks better and feels more special inside. In case you're wondering, the comparo was done before MT could get its mitts on the 320-hp BMW 340i. Lieberman says the English company spent its money on the XE suspension and it shows, but there have been other efforts from other automakers with excellent dynamic chops that weren't enough to threaten the BMW. His final assessment is that one of the two cars is awesome, and one is quite a bit better. Watch the video to find out which is which.
