Awesome Supercharged Vanden Plas that needs some work! I have owned this car since 2005 and would like to see a Jag lover restore it but maybe it is time to part it out. A tree limb fell on the left front fender and hood, I decided it was time was good to buy another with less miles. The tires are near new (about $800 in the tires alone). My mechanic said one catalytic converter is shot but the engine runs great! Please email me about any questions. Buyer to pay for shipping costs. Jaguar to expand Jaguar XKR-S GT production run?
Wed, 10 Apr 2013According to a report in Autocar, demand for the Jaguar XKR-S GT is such that the English company could nearly double production from 30 to 50 cars. Such inflation can often incense those have already put deposits down, worried that they've both been lied to about the potentially diminished values of their cars, but Jaguar has made the announcement barely a day after the XKR-S GT was revealed and 50 still isn't that many vehicles.
Nothing in the Autocar report indicates the additional examples will not come to America, making the 500-horsepower superfast coupe a treat we can still call all our own. Jaguar didn't add horsepower but instead honed other aspects of the car to produce a GT that can lap the 'Ring nearly as quickly as a Ferrari 458 Italia, and the world should be the beneficiary, the company's brand director saying, "The real beauty of this project has been that it has extended our understanding of the elements involved in making a car go so fast, and that will feed back into all our road car programs." Sounds good to us.
Lapping Le Mans with 1956's version of a dash cam
Wed, 01 May 2013Mike Hawthorne and Ivor Bueb won The 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1955 driving a Jaguar D-Type. The following year, a few days before the race, a British broadcaster put cameras on Hawthorne's car, hung a mic from a plate on his race suit and had him narrate a lap of the Circuit de la Sarthe.
It is compelling viewing. A new pit complex was built after the massive accident on the front straight in 1955, but this was still a time when crews prepped for the race on roads that were open to the public. Hawthorne's lap includes maneuvers to avoid bicyclists and cars, and gems like letting us know that doing 185 miles per hour down the Mulsanne Straight was where you could "relax a little, recover your energy." Watch him work it like the men of old in the video below.
