1974 Jaguar Xj 12 L Nice Older Resto W/ Suncoast V8 Conversion on 2040-cars
Stowe, Vermont, United States
Up for auction is a 1974 Jaguar XJ 12 L. This car is being sold for the grandson of the previous owner/ restorer. The car was nicely restored with a new Bartlet interior and repainted in the original navy blue in the early 90's. At that time the owner chose to replace the engine instead of rebuilding the V-12. He contacted Suncoast Conversions and swapped a small block Chevy and a TH400 transmission. The car had been in storage for some time and the current owner contacted me to wake her up and sell her. Upon arrival to the barn, I saw a nicely restored but poorly stored vehicle. I went thru the brakes, fuel system and fixed a few interior bits.
Now currently registered, inspected and driving in Vermont, a non-title state. The paint is OK but has been chipped and dinged here and there. Trunk is really nice, solid with all panels present. The fuel system was typically joined to run as one, as solenoids for the switch system had failed. All wiring has been left and could be restored back to original. Tanks are in good shape and appear to have been replaced during resto. The car is structurly sound, with a bit a rust on rockers and lower fenders begining to show thru. Floors are good with some rust at the drivers heels and underside front corner of the LH rocker/fender. All glass is very good, all trim is very good. Interior presents nice with a pro installed kit. No critter/ musty smell. Bumpers and wheels have a bit of pitting. Most everything works as new except for the gas gauge. All lights, side markers, blinkers and flashers work. Front windows go up and down fine, rears not so much...Heat and AC are OK but will need work. I think the car is worth saving and is available for inspection. I try to answer all questions as best as I can. My feedback shows how I do business. |

2014 Jaguar F-Type
Wed, 17 Apr 2013Stepping Into The Lion's Den With A Big-Hearted Cat
If you're like me - and our demographics suggests you are - you've probably never seen a new Jaguar sportscar at your local showroom. I'm 36, and it hasn't happened in my lifetime... and not by a little bit. Oh, there have been a string of XK coupes and convertibles, and as of late, there have even been some genuine high-performance specials - namely the R, R-S and R-S GT models - but their basis has always been the 2+2 grand tourer shell, not a lighter and smaller footprint with more intrinsic sporting intent. The truth is that it's been a half-century since Jaguar introduced a proper new sportscar. Today, most people know the brand strictly as a purveyor of wood- and hide-lined luxury sedans.
In fact, if you're not an enthusiast with some appreciation for the marque's history, it's a bit odd to hear Jaguar executives proclaim that they are a sportscar company and always have been. By their reckoning, the 2014 F-Type seen here is in fact a return to form, a Rip Van Winkled brand pillar reanimated and reimagined to take center stage. It's a sentiment that must be particularly odd for car shoppers in developing markets like China, where Jaguar hasn't even been selling cars for very long. Yet because the original 1961 E-Type is perhaps the most gorgeous car ever to lay ply on the world's roads, we're prepared to cut them some slack.
Jaguars and Land Rovers to feature in 007's Spectre
Mon, Feb 9 2015James Bond may be more closely associated with Aston Martin, but Jaguars and Land Rovers have featured in 007 movies new and old. Skyfall, the most recent installment in the series, opened with Bond and Moneypenny ripping through the streets of Istanbul in a Defender and saw M being chauffeured around London in an XJ. And the upcoming feature Spectre is set to feature some of JLR's finest as well. While Bond himself will be piloting the new Aston Martin DB10, the movie will also feature a Jag and a couple of Landies. The Jaguar C-X75 concept, as we know, will be part of a chase scene against the DB10, now revealed to be set in Rome. But the movie will also include the new Range Rover Sport SVR (with what looks like some auxiliary lighting) and at least two Defenders modified by JLR Special Operations to "Big Foot" specifications with 37-inch off-road tires, upgraded suspensions and added bodywork protection. As you may recall, a couple of months ago a fleet of nine vehicles used in the film were stolen from a garage in Dusseldorf, including five Range Rover Sports. This is the first confirmation we're seeing of any of them being SVR models, or of the Big Foot Defenders being part of the mix as well. The scenes including the Land Rovers have already been filmed in Austria, and we're looking forward to seeing them all on the silver screen come November. Broccoli's EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment. These will include the Jaguar C-X75, Range Rover Sport SVR and Defender Big Foot, which have been provided by Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations. The Jaguar C-X75 will feature in a spectacular car chase sequence through Rome alongside the Aston Martin DB10. The C-X75 vehicles used in filming have been built in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering facility in Oxfordshire, England.
Jaguar XFR-S pitted against Mercedes E63 AMG
Wed, 21 Aug 2013It was Steve Sutcliffe at Autocar who got the tough job of comparing the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG to the limited edition Jaguar XFR-S on the track and sheep-strewn British B-roads. In UK spec both Mephistophelean sedans wrangle the same 542 horsepower, but step out of the corral and things look to weigh heavily in the Mercedes' favor: it has more torque, it's lighter, it's quicker from 0-to-60 and it's less expensive.
But that's on paper. Sutcliffe was given the job to see what effect all those letters and numbers had on the real-world driving experience. One of them is "an absolute hoot at the track" with great steering and weight management, one is "magnificent." To find out which is which, watch the video below.
