1974 Jaguar E-Type has been lovingly restored to original condition. Unfortunately the car was garage stored for 7 years and not driven. The car is now being sold for a friend. As a professional mechanic, I have inspected the car and found it to be in excellent mechanical condition, although I did replace the pinion seal, all brake hoses, brake pads, and all cooling system hoses. All four carburetors have been rebuilt and the gas tank has been removed and cleaned. The fuel lines have been cleaned out and the steering rack has been rebuilt. Both brake master cylinders and the booster have been replaced. Typical as English cars are, it may have occasional oil drips. The engine bay is exceptional clean and appears new. The car runs and drives wonderfully with no known problems. The British Racing Green body is in very good condition with no visible rust and very few nicks and scratches that are not obvious. The biscuit interior and black top are new. The tires are in very good condition with no apparent dry rot but are at least 7 to 8 years old. This is a car that I believe is turn-key and ready to drive away. The car is sold as-is, with no warranty. Serious buyers are welcome to inspect the car in person or send an inspector to form your own opinion of its condition. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Please no dealers, resellers, trades or photo collectors. No bidders with a score of 10 or less feedback unless you contact me first. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Good luck and happy bidding. The successful bidding with provide a $1000, non-refundable down payment within 24 hours of the close of the auction to secure the vehicle. The buyer agrees to pay the remaining balance due (plus applicable fees and taxes) within 72 hours of the close of the auction. All financial transactions must be complete before delivery of the vehicle. Payment may be in cash, certified check, or any other standard guaranteed payment method. Out-of-state buyers are responsible for all state, county, city taxes and fees as well as title/registration fees in the state that the vehicle will be registered. Top Gear caught filming Best of British near Buckingham Palace
Mon, 24 Jun 2013YouTuber and car-fan extraordinaire Shmee probably had very little trouble tracking down the Top Gear film crew recently, as the group was putting together an episode that could accurately be described as "excessive." With its flag-waving (literally) Best of British theme, the TG guys gathered a jaw-dropping array of British cars, and parked them all right in front of Buckingham Palace to make extra sure that the point was driven home.
Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May were outfitted with a trio of Jaguar F-Types festooned with gigantic Union Jacks, with which to survey the landscape of British motoring glory. In the video below, you'll see that this includes any number of Mini, Aston Martin, Lotus, McLaren, Land Rover, Bentley and Rolls-Royce models (just to name a few), as well as a healthy dose of weird stuff that most people would never guess at being built in the UK. The lawnmowers and military vehicles are especially cool.
Jaguar Land Rover offers (some) detail about new Ingenium engine
Thu, 10 Jul 2014Jaguar Land Rover officially announced its Ingenium family of engines with the unveiling of the 2.0-liter version in the Jaguar XE concept at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, but it kept details very thin at the time. All we knew was that the new turbocharged mills could be configured to use gasoline or diesel, and be positioned longitudinally or transversely. Months later, JLR is finally letting some more info slip about its new baby, but there are still some big questions to be answered.
For the Ingenium project, Jaguar Land Rover gave its engineers a clean sheet of paper and told them not to worry about using any previous parts or machinery. In the end, the designers came up with a family of turbocharged, aluminum-block engines based around modular, 500cc cylinders to allow it to grow or shrink as the market demanded. The layout was also made adaptable enough to incorporate hybrid drivetrains, if needed. "Being configurable and flexible are the two key strands of Ingenium's DNA because we have future-proofed our new engines from the outset," said said Ron Lee, the company's director of Powertrain Engineering.
To maximize efficiency, Jaguar promises that all versions of the Ingenium engines come with computer-controlled, variable oil pumps and water pumps to use only as much energy as needed. They also get direct injection, roller bearings for the cams and stop/start. The diesel version alone has 17 percent less internal friction than the mill it replaces, the company claims. JLR is also promising class-leading figures for Ingenium's torque and horsepower too, but it's not giving away those specs just yet.
Jay Leno's Garage drives Steve McQueen's 1956 Jaguar XKSS
Tue, 27 May 2014Steve McQueen might be the coolest American male of the 20th century. With movies like Bullitt and Le Mans, McQueen established himself as the king of cool of his era, and on the list of actors you would pick for a fantasy racing team - he or Paul Newman are the natural first choices. The latest Jay Leno's Garage video highlights one of McQueen's most special cars - a 1956 Jaguar XKSS.
Just 16 XKSS models were made because a fire at the Jaguar factory halted production. It was meant to be a street version of the company's very successful D-Type racer, with a modified version of its 3.4-liter straight-six-engine and a four-speed manual gearbox. McQueen clearly had an eye for great vehicles. He drove his Jag around Los Angeles years after it was a cutting-edge piece of technology. Since then, it became part of the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA. Autoblog's The List even took a ride in it when the show visited the museum.
The XKSS is one of the pinnacles of automotive design of the '50s, and its association with McQueen makes this example even more extraordinary. Leno is in love with the car from the moment he sees it, and it's hard to argue with him. Between its emphasized curves and raspy exhaust, this is one sexy Jag. Scroll down to get an eyeful and earful from one of McQueen's favorite cars.
