I love the 4x4
Has tow package. The factory harness shorted out. I wired the 4 pin light harness from the rear right tail light.
Has the skid plate package and a full spare tire.

Comes with 1 Factory/ original key, 1 Spare key made at a hardware store. Total of 2 keys for this SUV

The TR is missing from the TROOPER badging on the doors. So it says OOPER. It is a Michigan thing. I bought it this way. You can buy letters online if it bothers you.

Needs:

Has cosmetic blemishes, nothing terrible. No dents or cracks in the body panels.

Cylinder 6 misfire. Piston ring is cracked. Oil is just blowing by it.

Transmission fluid I assume is low. Will recommend a flush and filter replacement. Why so? It was shifting real hard into 3rd gear the last day I drove it. If I were keeping it I would investigate that issue further. IMO I don't think there is anything major going on with this problem. It does need addressed though and I can't guarantee a flush and fill will fix.

I have had the pinion seal replaced on the rear differential. It may need inspected. I add a couple ounces of fluid 1-2 times a year. Easy to do. 4x4 works flawlessly all the same.

Needs exhaust work. Needs muffler and pipe work.

I drive a 2 hour route for work. When I get home I add 2 quarts of oil every day I drive that distance even with the cracked piston ring. I cant afford the oil anymore and thus among the reasons I am selling this SUV. If you are going to drive this SUV and not fix the engine I would recommend getting the exhaust issue fixed and make sure you have a lot of oil to use. Go to the dollar store or buy Walmart brand or filter used oil or something to cut cost. I would say it burns 1 quart per hour of non stop driving. City driving you may stretch it out a little but you will have to stay up close and personal with checking the dip stick OFTEN!!!!

I imagine the person buying this SUV is going to run it into the ground or you will drop a new engine in.

Radio doesn't work. If you are car audio smart you probably could find the loose/ severed connection. Has factory 6 disc with pioneers in doors.

The power fold mirror only works on the passenger. If you are electronically inclined you may get the driver mirror folding again. Just don't go through a touch car wash. The power mirrors work on both sides.

Born and raised in Texas. Minimal rust.

Before and after the new a/c compressor install the check engine light would come on and say o2 sensor bank 2 or 1???....it is buried behind the engine block. My mechanic told me not to worry bout it. So when you use the air conditioning be expecting the check engine light to come on. It will go out after a couple trips.

Born and raised in Texas for 50,000 Miles
Then babied in West Bloomfield for 30,000 miles
Then I bought it with 80,000 miles
Now i'm selling it with 141,*** miles
Had the major maintenance items done at Datsun Doctor in Waterford, MI, they are a Asian import specialist.

I have tried to baby this thing the best I can. I don't know what could have been done to avoid the cracked piston ring. It just kills me that it happened and I have to move on with my life.

Junkyard Gem: 1997 Acura SLX

Tue, Nov 27 2018

When I'm prowling wrecking yards, I'm always on the lookout for obscure examples of badge engineering, and the weirder they are, the better I like them. While I haven't managed to spot a junked Suzuki Equator yet, I have photographed such rarities as the Saab 9-2x and Isuzu Ascender. A few weeks ago, I encountered one of the real oddities of the Honda-Isuzu dealmaking of the 1990s: a 1997 Acura SLX, a luxed-up Isuzu Trooper that sold very poorly and is now mostly forgotten today. Plenty of Acura SUVs designed and built entirely by Honda roll out of American showrooms today, but the 1990s SUV boom caught Honda by surprise. The first MDX wasn't ready until the 2001 model year, so Honda made a deal to take Isuzu Troopers, apply wood and leather inside and Acura badges outside, and cash in on North Americans' increasing disdain for minivans, sedans, and station wagons. Americans were very familiar with the Trooper, which was sold here from the middle 1980s until the 2002 model year, when the Chevrolet Trailblazer-based Ascender went on sale. The Isuzu name stuck around on these shores until 2008. The SLX was a decent enough truck, but there was no disguising its proletariat Trooper roots from status-conscious SUV shoppers who wanted to look more oligarchic while conquering a half-inch of snow in the mall parking lot. It didn't help that the 1997 Trooper L listed at $27,800 and the SLX Premium cost $38,300 (that's about $44,200 and $60,900 in inflation-adjusted 2018 bucks). SLX sales started off weak and plummeted after that. After 1999, the SLX was done. I spent years trying to find one in California and Colorado wrecking yards, but the few that were sold seemed to be sturdy enough to stay alive for a couple of decades. Finally, this high-mile '97 appeared in a Denver yard. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.

Junkyard Gem: 1998 Isuzu Oasis

Sun, Jun 16 2019

When I'm crawling through a big self-service wrecking yard (as I do at least once a week) in search of interesting discarded vehicles, the top of my "look for" list always includes weird and obscure examples of badge engineering, the weirder and more obscure the better. So far the Nissan-made Suzuki Equator has eluded me, but I have managed to shoot such junkyard badge-engineering oddities as the Mitsubishi Precis (Hyundai Excel), Acura SLX (Isuzu Trooper), Saab 9-2X (Subaru Impreza) and Saturn Astra (Opel Astra). Isuzu's dire need for a minivan in the late 1990s led to a deal with Honda to sell the first-generation Odyssey as the Oasis (even as the Trooper became the Honda Passport). Few bought the Oasis, but I found one in a Denver yard a few months back. Pure Honda throughout, down to the VTEC badges on the engine. This is the 2.3-liter F23 four, rated at 150 horsepower for 1998. Sold new in Denver, will be crushed in Denver. Though Americans bought many a Geo or Chevy built by Isuzu during the 1980s and 1990s (not to mention the big-selling Isuzu-made Chevy LUV truck of the 1970s), the Isuzu brand never really caught on over here. By 2009, Isuzu was gone. The first-generation Odyssey was well-made and efficient, but it was designed for the Japanese home market and thus was too small for most American van shoppers in 1998 (most of whom were moving to SUVs around that time, anyway). You could fit a lot of people and gear in this small-footprint machine, but that was more important in crowded Japanese cities than in sprawling American suburbia. Collectible? Not at all. But an interesting piece of automotive history. I can't find any Oasis ads online, so let's watch a JDM commercial for the first-gen Odyssey, featuring the Addams Family. Florida man found dead inside SUV covered in parking tickets

Wed, Dec 7 2016

A woman in Fort Lauderdale, FL, got a nasty shock last month when she discovered a corpse sitting at the wheel of a heavily ticketed SUV parked near the Broward County Courthouse. According to the Sun Sentinel, Carolyn White was walking down a street in Fort Lauderdale when she spotted something strange. An Isuzu Axiom with deeply tinted windows was parked at the curb festooned with parking tickets. Curious to find out how someone could get that many parking tickets, she went to investigate. "I was being nosy," she told the Sentinel. "I never let the meter man catch me. I never got a parking ticket and I wanted to know why somebody else got caught. And that's what made me look inside." When she approached the vehicle, she discovered more than just a pile of tickets under the wipers. An elderly man was sitting in the driver's seat, slumped face down over the center console between the seats, clutching a credit card in a still hand. "Oh my God, please tell me this man is not dead," was White's first thought, she told the paper. Unfortunately, he was. The Broward County Medical Examiner stated the man in the SUV, Jacob Morpeau of Miami, had been dead for quite some time when White discovered him. Records show that the Isuzu was ticketed in that space numerous times between November 12 and November 15, including twice in the space of three minutes the morning Morpeau's body was discovered. "I can understand why the meter person probably didn't see him from the driver's side," said White. "He was underneath the steering wheel, his head was in the middle of the seat, between the two seats. But you could see him on the passenger's side. That's how I seen him, from the sidewalk." Fort Lauderdale city officials declined to comment on the incident, but an email from the City Clerk's office stated that the $160 dollars racked up while Morpeau sat dead at the wheel of his SUV would be dismissed due to "extenuating circumstances".
