1980 International Scout Ii - Runs And Drives Very Well, New Carpet And Upgrades on 2040-cars
Year:1980
Mileage:114000
Location:
Rockville, Minnesota, United States
Up for sale is my 1980 International Harvester Scout II. This is my third Scout, I have owned it for over seven years, and I hope to see it go to another Scout enthusiast who can enjoy it as much as I have. It runs and drives very nicely and has had many upgrades done to address common trouble areas and increase safety and comfort. Mechanically, it has a strong running 345 v8 with an upgraded Motorcraft carb. 3-speed automatic transmission shifts as it should and four wheel drive with manual locking hubs functions well. Seems to be geared higher than the other scouts I have owned as it gets reasonable MPG. It has a two inch shackle lift with caster correcting shims installed. Straight Steer brace has also been installed to improve handling, as well as a new rag joint. It really handles pretty well for an old scout. Brakes are new all around and stop well. Dual exhaust is new, though the mufflers are a bit aggressive for my taste. Runs nice and cool as the fan clutch and heater core are both new. Remote starter solenoid conversion installed to prevent common hot start issues. Freeze plug engine heater installed for cold winter starting. All in all, this truck is in fine mechanical shape and would make a great daily driver - it cruises happily on the highway with no major shakes, noises, or misfires. I recently took it on a six hour road trip and it did great! The interior is likewise in very nice shape - front bucket seats upgraded to leather buckets from a Caravan, with the IH logo embroidered in the headrests. New front seats slide as they should and fold forward for easy access to rear passenger area. Working shoulder belts have been installed and are very comfortable. The carpet in the passenger area is brand new, and includes a heat and sound barrier underneath for added comfort. The dash has been cut to fit a CD player (with aux in) and 4 speakers have been installed, two in the front console, two in the rear inner quarters. The rear seat is the factory seat that has been reupholstered to match the front, again with embroidered logos. Gauges all work including an accurate speedometer. Rear cargo area has thick rubber cargo mat installed. The floors underneath the carpet and cargo mat are solid and have been gone through. Any areas showing rust were replaced with new metal, and then everything was sealed and coated with bedliner. The tub is in good overall condition as reflected by the pictures. The frame is solid. One body mount is starting to show signs of needing replacement, but is not currently causing any issues. The body is in nice shape for a vehicle of this vintage, but it is certainly not a show car. The paint is shiny, but has many flaws on close inspection, including some wear spots and touch-ups. The white vinyl stickers should be redone as the passenger side sticker is slightly askew - these can be had for around $200 on the web. There is, however, no visible rust and no real bubbling to speak of on the outside of the truck. On the inside, one of the inner door arches on the tub is showing corrosion, and one of the inner wheel wells has had an obvious rust repair - other than that it is quite solid. Overall, these things are getting harder and harder to find in this kind of shape, and the upgrades done to this particular example have made it a very comfortable, unique, reliable, and tough daily driver or weekend fun truck. Gets a million "thumbs ups" wherever it goes, and it's nearly impossible to fill up with gas without starting a conversation. I've done my best to accurately describe the truck, and am more than happy to answer any questions that may come up, and very much encourage prospective bidders to contact me or take a look at it. I'm happy to assist with shipping in any way I can, including arranging shipping as I do that quite frequently and can usually get a decent rate. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
