Well it's time to pass on this handsome old international scout on to a new owner so I'm hoping to find a good home for it here on eBay.
This is a 1970 international harvester scout 800a model, with a 304 v8 manual transmission 3 speed on the floor. These models are getting harder to find and more desirable with the v8 option which is the largest available this model year. The 800a was sold just two years 1969 and 1970.
The history on this scout so far as I know, is that it was originally sold and sent to Idaho where it stayed until the 1980s and then sent to South Dakota where it mostly sat in storage.
Scouts are known for rusting away but having great long last drivetrains but amazingly enough this scout still has its original floors, no patching of any kind! Other things to note are that it has the original glove box cardboard still holding up and the owners manual was in the glovebox when I got it but it is damaged from years of sitting.
As with any 43 year old truck it needs to be driven and treated with care and you can't expect it to drive like a luxury car or modern day truck. These drive like farm tractors and for me personally I've always enjoyed cruising around and not worrying about speeding tickets.
When I got this truck I decided to make it a nice driver quality truck, not for show but also something nice enough I could take to a local car show.
Here is a run down of what's been done:
New interstate battery still in plastic.
New glass bowl fuel pump oem specs.
Custom bent flowmaster exhaust single pipe, sounds great.
Updated paint job base coat clear coat, not perfect but shows nice especially from 10 feet. Only a couple small rust repairs where filler was used and I have noticed some minor blistering coming back but it isn't that noticeable. Pictures were taken a week ago.

Tires are close to stock size 235/75/15 with a like new full size spare and matching wheel that still needs paint to match. Tires are fair but aged. I was going to go bigger but I ran out of time and like the stock look.
Brakes were checked a few months ago and believe it or not the rears have never been changed and are good and the fronts are fair. Since driving around this spring I have noticed some sponginess so assume the brakes will require some work.
The previous owner cleaned out the passenger side fuel tank supposedly and it just runs off the one tank for now. When I last added fuel it developed a small drop looks like its coming from the fuel line. I still drive as is but assume this may need attention.
Engine runs great and is strong. Lots of power on the open road and the posi traction front and rear help too. There is a lifter tick that comes and goes and gets quieter when driven regularly. I'd recommend doing an oil change because its been at least 9 months since I rarely drive it. And of course it does leave a drop of oil where it's parked, not surprising for its age.
Transmission shifts well but as with most of the scouts I have driven there is some clutch chatter when taking off in first and it takes some practice and skill to minimize that effect.
Gauges and dash could use some work. Speedometer cable was taken off and I never installed it since I don't worry about speeding in this truck. I have the part and it may be as simple and just installing it and it'll work again. Original am radio still lights up and works which I think is pretty cool. Other gauges do not work either and I never really checked to see why. If you know anything about these old scout 800s it's pretty easy to figure out I just haven't had time.
Exterior lights mostly work. One tail light just went out and the reverse lights are not hooked up. Also one side marker light isn't coming on. Could just be bulbs.
Windows are tough to crank up and down and the passenger side linkage doesn't work well at all. I just leave the windows up for the most part. The drivers side interior door opener works sometimes and sometimes not so I usually leave the window part way down and open the door with the outside handle and button while sitting inside the truck.
I've got a lot of spare parts that I'd be willing to work with the winning bidder on. Probably enough to replace most of the broken or non working parts. We can discuss this at auctions end.
I hope this old scout finds a great new home! Any questions please don't hesitate to email and depending on my schedule I will do my best to answer and help out any way I can. Good luck!
I can help out with a vehicle shipper if need be, and it will be paid for by the winning bidder.

I also forgot to mention the top was repainted and looks good but there was some paint reaction on the drivers side not noticeable in the pictures. The roof top is wavy and oil cans but unless you're really tall it goes unnoticed. I have lots of other pictures so if you're interested ask for more, thanks.
