Up for auction is a very nice 1966 International Scout 800.
Has a CLEAR TITLE, and is registered Non-Op with the state of california. (No back fees would be due.) The backstory: The Previous owner's wife tells me he purchased this vehicle in the mid 1980's. He intended to rebuild it, but he never got to it, and it sat in the back of a garage for almost 30 years. He died, it sat for several more years until the wife decided it was time to start letting his stuff go. I acquired it last year, and took it to DMV so they could issue a title since it was long out of the system. I took the scout apart with the intention of completely redoing it, but recently realized that I've got too darn many projects going on and should probably let this one go. If it sells, cool. If not, I'll put it in the corner and get to it when I get to it. This would make a great frame off resto-mod candidate, and the body is one of the best I've seen, and I looked at a lot of them before buying this one. The good: The rust on the vehicle is minimal, and is mostly surface rust. I haven't found a single hole on the truck. Rocker panels are solid. Even where the gas tanks go is solid. The gas tanks were drained before it was stored, so they aren't full of crap. The tanks themselves are solid too. (Most of the one's I looked at were rusted.) Most of the body panels have been removed which makes it really easy to inspect and see where the rust is and isn't. The body has been unbolted from the frame, and will lift off pretty easily. Right now it's just sitting there. Most of the vehicle has been disassembled to send it to the sandblaster/powdercoater. The dash, heater stuff, brake pedal assembly, etc, are all unbolted. (which also revealed that the areas underneath were solid, so no surprises there.) The vehicle is 98% complete. Off the top of my head, I don't think anything is missing, but I can't guarantee 100% that everything is there, so I'll say it's 98% there. IF anything is missing, it's minimal stuff. Heater core, headlight buckets and trim rings, etc, are all boxed up. Ditto for the dash pieces, etc. The 152 engine does run well. Carb was rebuilt. New water pump. New fuel pump, with a spare fuel pump as well. Never had the chance to try to drive it since the rear axle was removed and it needs a new U-joint on it, so the condition of the axles and transmission is unknown. Brakes worked before the system was disconnected. All the glass EXCEPT the windshield is good. Even the old seats aren't in bad condition. The Bad: Some idiot flipped the axles to jack the vehicle up, and did a lousy job with the welding of the spring perches. This also put the brake hoses at full stretch when the vehicle is on the lift, so that's not a great design. Windshield is broken. There are some small minor dents, but not many. Drivers rear 1/4 panel has a dent because the aftermarket bumper that was on it was a "wrap around" style that attached to the sheet metal, and it appears someone bumped the back of it just slightly. Small dent in the front of the hood. Small dent in the front panel. Windows work... sort of. The doors need to be disassembled and cleaned to get fully working again. My intention was to get a post-1975 Scout II rolling chassis, and drop this body on that. (after I had the entire body sandblasted and powdercoated/painted of course.) The later scouts had better axles, disc brakes in the front, and were just better overall. I'm told this is a common swap. If no one buys it, I'll eventually do just that. Any questions, feel free to ask. Buyers are encouraged to set up a time to view BEFORE bidding. SHIPPING AND LOADING are BUYERS responsibility. I CAN help somewhat with getting the vehicle to the street where you'd then need to load it onto a trailer, etc. I can also loosely bolt the body panels back on, if the buyer wishes, for shipping. The rest of the parts will be placed inside the vehicle. You may call with questions as well. (818) 485-5054 |
