"Infiniti's G37X offers performance, refinement, and available all-wheel drive, making it a Best Buy in this highly competitive class. Pricing that undercuts most rivals is an added bonus." -- Consumer Guide (2011 Coupe) "Again, other cars I've driven here have been better, but the G37X is a great driving experience, it represents one of the nicest compromises between full sports car and good-looking sporty poseur you can get." -- AutoWeek By Bengt Halvorson February 16, 2011 The 2011 Infiniti G37 Coupe and Convertible are super-stylish touring two-doors with responsive powertrains, along with top-notch steering and poise that's matched by only a few cars—like the BMW 3-Series Coupe and Convertible, one of its main rivals. And these model appeal to those who want the feel of a balanced sports car but also needs something that feels a little more mature...something that doesn't scream mid-life-crisis-mobile, perhaps. Just like the G37 Sedan , the G37 Coupe has a sleek, neat, well-tailored look that straddles the line between overtly sporty and elegant. The G37 Convertible has thinner pillars and a little more oomph to its rear end (where the folding hardtop resides), which give it a voluptuousness. It's by far the best-looking folding-hardtop convertible you can buy, with none of the squatness that affects everything from the Volkswagen Eos to the Ferrari California. Inside, the styling keeps with the exterior—offering a serious, almost cockpit-like look, with a deep seating, a high center console, and large, hooded gauges; contrasted with lovely soft-touch materials and muted leather, which brush up against aluminum or wood trim and frame a clear. The G37 Coupe and Convertible have some of the same underpinnings as the G Sedans—as well as the Nissan 370Z—only they're several inches shorter and that affects the way they ride and handle (in addition to space, of course). Overall it steers nicely—although, surprisingly, not quite with the excellent feedback of the G Sedan—and has a well-damped ride, even with the Sport package's 19-inch wheels. The heftier Convertible feels slightly less nimble and not as quick to accelerate. Both two-door G models get the same engine that powers the G37 Sedan, only here it makes 330 horsepower. It revs enthusiastically (and with a growl) up to 7,500 rpm and works well with either the precise six-speed manual gearbox or the seven-speed automatic, which includes magnesium paddle-shifters with the Sport package. The dash to 60 mph takes just 5.5 seconds in the Coupe. Inside these models, there's a lot to like. The base seats are fine, while the available sport seats have more adjustable supports and cosset a little more snugly. The seats in these models are mounted a little lower, which they need to be for the lower roofline, so it's all good, at least in the front seat. But while the G37's front seats are cozy. The G37 Coupe have a back seat that's passable for kids; would be tight for full adults. Just as in the G Sedans , those expecting a luxury coupe might be a little disappointed with the G37 Coupe's refinement. In addition to more road noise than typical for this class of vehicle, the G37 Coupe's engine can be coarse and noisy when revved, and ride quality can be choppy and nervous, especially with the available 19-inch wheels. All coupes are built with automatic climate control, an intelligent key, and leather upholstery. Higher trim grades get upgraded audio; a dual-zone climate system; intelligent cruise control; adaptive front lighting; a hard-drive-based navigation system; and four-wheel active steering. All-wheel drive is an option. All Convertibles come with leather seating; the power hardtop; a door-mounted button to lower the roof before entering or after exiting; an MP3-capable sound system; a rearview camera; a navigation system with hard-drive music storage and XM Satellite Radio with real-time traffic data; and an iPod connection kit that's quick to index your favorite music. Options include a multispeaker Bose audio system that tunes its output to the car's top-down status; a climate control system that does the same; and heated and cooled seats. Sport and Premium packages toss in 19-inch wheels, Bluetooth, radar-based cruise control, and adaptive headlights—and for 2011, the Sport package can be had in combination with all-wheel drive. Just like the G37 Sedan , the G37 Coupe has a sleek, neat, well-tailored look that straddles the line between overtly sporty and elegant. PERFORMANCE: Both the Coupe and Convertible have a front end that bears a lot in common to that of the sedan, and all the G models have a comparable tail treatment, but the similarities end there. With its more gracefully drawn-up headlamps and a curved-up hatch, the G37 Coupe could be gauged as either a softer, more understated sports car or a more edgy luxury coupe. The dash to 60 mph takes just 5.5 seconds in the Coupe, or about six seconds for the Convertible, because of the extra 450 pounds of folding hardtop it carries. One model that especially stands out from a performance perspective is the G37x Coupe AWD, which utilizes Infiniti's ATESSA E-TS all-wheel-drive system found on other Infiniti models. It's an excellent system that's proactive and helps maximize stability when cornering. The seven-speed automatic is more enjoyable than most, as it responds quickly to the paddle-shifters and provides throttle blips for seamless downshifts; in more easygoing driving it can be a little more lumpy and indecisive, though. SAFETY: The 2011 Infiniti G37 Coupe and Convertible come with a solid set of safety features, and while the Convertible alone hasn't been crash-tested by either of the major agencies, the G37 Coupe performs respectably. In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tests, the G37 Coupe earns top 'good' scores in frontal and side impact, though it gets only 'marginal' in the seat-based rear-impact test and hasn't yet been rated in the new roof strength category. Standard equipment on G37 models includes dual front airbags; side seat-mounted airbags; curtain airbags (roof-mounted in coupes, door-mounted in convertibles); stability and traction control; and active headrests. The G37 Convertible also is fitted with twin pop-up roll bars for more rollover safety. Adaptive cruise control and "preview braking," which uses sensors to predict an impact and applies some brake force to limit impact speeds, are options. I have looked over the car super carefully and only one pea size ding exists over rear drivers wheel well- not even able to see unless you are sitting on ground and look up. No scratches and near new paint condition. The drivers seat is perfect and no signs of wear. Passengers seats hardly ever used and interior shows like new- Thanks!

Race Recap: 2015 Canadian F1 Grand Prix is better behind the front
Mon, Jun 8 2015As of Saturday afternoon in Montreal, Canada, it was all about the number four. Lewis Hamilton put his Mercedes-AMG Petronas on pole position for the fourth time at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and now his tally of pole positions matches his race number: 44. Nico Rosberg lines up beside him, which is the fourth time that particular one-two combo has occurred this season. Ferrari spent three engine development tokens to try and close the gap to Mercedes, Kimi Raikkonen making the most of it with third position on the gird. His teammate Sebastian Vettel got the worst of it, however, when the MGU-K unit failed during Q1, leaving him 160 horsepower down and out at the first hurdle. Valtteri Bottas put a revitalized Williams on the grid at fourth, ahead of a Lotus lockout of the third row with Romain Grosjean leading the way in fifth, Pastor Maldonado just beside. Nico Hulkenberg got the first Sahara Force India into seventh – the team is still waiting on the upgraded B car that should be available for Austria – ahead of Daniil Kvyat in the first Infiniti Red Bull Racing and a "pissed off" Daniel Ricciardo in the second Red Bull. Sergio Perez made it two Force Indias in the top ten, a welcome result from a team performing below expectations of late. When the lights went out, at the very front it was much ado about not that much at all. Hamilton got away clean and stabbed across the track to close the door for Rosberg, giving Raikkonen a chance to take the inside line into Turn 1 in an attempt to clear Rosberg for second place. That didn't happen, leaving the two Mercedes' to run in grid position for the entire race. It wasn't boring – Rosberg stayed close, rubber-banding the time gap to the leader from a little more than one second to just under four seconds, and Montreal is famous for race-rearranging safety cars and on-track incidents. But none of those occurred, so Hamilton crossed the line 2.285 seconds ahead of Rosberg after 70 laps to earn his fourth victory in Canada and the first-ever victory for the Brackley, UK-based Mercedes team. Valtteri Bottas drove his Williams to third position, the first podium place for the team this year and a welcome salve to heal the team's wounds from a poor showing in Monaco. That placing came courtesy of being in the right place at the right time, which was not far behind Raikkonen when the Ferrari driver spun at the hairpin on Lap 28 after his first pit stop.
Infiniti went out of its way to make the QX30 not a Mercedes
Thu, Mar 16 2017You can complain all you want about perceived badge engineering when a company (like Mercedes-Benz) sells a platform to another brand (such as Infiniti). The reality is that most buyers won't know the difference, and they won't even realize their Infiniti is really a Mercedes underneath or that their neighbor's GLA has the same basic parts as the QX30 they just bought. What's weird to me isn't that sameness, but the places where the two cute little utes differ. These two vehicles, which are more like tall hatchbacks, use the same Mercedes 2.0-liter turbo four and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Infiniti adds its own throttle and transmission calibrations. The suspension design is the same, although there are tuning differences. Both come standard with front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive an option. Fuel economy matches for the FWD models, while the AWD Infiniti lags behind the Mercedes for some reason. So they're very similar despite their different looks. And design makes sense as a point of differentiation. Frankly, they go further than a lot of vehicles on shared platforms do – further, in fact, than the upcoming Nissan Navara-based Mercedes X-Class pickup does. The QX30 has its own sheetmetal and glass to separate it from the GLA-class. You probably think one looks better than the other. If you know where to look, the signs of sameness are obvious. Most major systems and pieces are shared, like the steering wheels (with different center covers), most switchgear, and things like interior and exterior door handles. Shared parts are fine as long as the parts are good ones. On that note, how many Tesla buyers realize their steering column and stalks, plus the window switches, come from Mercedes? And does that actually matter? We'd argue no. About those differences. Many are functional, like the fact the Infiniti does not carry over the Benz's Brake Hold feature – when you roll to a stop in the GLA (or any other Benz), pressing the brake pedal firmly applies the electric parking brake until you hit the gas to move again. The QX30 has an electric parking brake, but no Brake Hold feature. Someone used to driving Mercedes models will look a bit silly standing on the brake pedal to no effect. Ask us how we know. The Mercedes gauge package is carried over, but with the Infiniti font. Makes sense, although it's off-putting at first if you've seen the original, prompting a weird deja vu. Circular dash vents are replaced by rhomboid ones.
Recharge Wrap-up: Cruz defends ethanol stance, Bloomberg gets EV numbers wrong?
Sat, Jan 9 2016Republican presidential hopeful Senator Ted Cruz is defending his stance against ethanol subsidies in an opinion piece in The Des Moines Register. In the piece, Cruz says he doesn't oppose ethanol, but opposes mandates and subsidies, favoring a "free and fair energy marketplace," and an "'all of the above' policy." "We should embrace all of the energy resources with which God has blessed America: oil and gas, coal, nuclear, wind, solar, and biofuels and ethanol," says Cruz, "But Washington shouldn't be picking winners and losers." To farmers' benefit, Cruz says he would enforce antitrust laws against those who try to keep ethanol out of the marketplace, and fight the EPA's hard blend walls prohibiting higher amounts of ethanol in gasoline. Read Cruz's article at The Des Moines Register, and read more from The Washington Times.Hybrid Cars calls out Bloomberg Business in a post saying it used inaccurate data in a piece highlighting dim plug-in sales. While the Bloomberg article, titled "Plug-in Electric Autos Left Behind in Record Year," accurately points out a slower year for EVs, it claims sales slipped 17 percent in 2015. According to data from Hybrid Cars, that decline was just 2.88 percent. Hybrid Cars claims that Bloomberg lumped a number of PHEVs with regular hybrids when it calculated the faulty data. Read more about the discrepancy and the more realistic picture of EV sales at Hybrid Cars. The National Biodiesel Board has hired Sandra Franco as general counsel. The Georgetown University Law Center graduate gained experience in environmental litigation during her time as a partner at the Morgan Lewis Law Firm. "There isn't an attorney in the country who knows renewable fuels law better than Sandra Franco, and we are thrilled to have her join our team," says National Biodiesel Board CEO Joe Jobe. "Sandra is a tremendously skilled and seasoned attorney who will help us ensure that the US biodiesel industry has a strong voice and expert counsel in Washington as well as on legal and regulatory issues across the country."
