Infiniti extends long-wheelbase Q50 L for the Chinese market

Want to sell your luxury sedan in China? You're going to need a long-wheelbase model. Not because the still-dominant Chinese government mandates it, or because the customers are taller, but because Chinese buyers tend to like being chauffeured around in the back of their luxury sedans instead of driving themselves, so the priority is on rear-seat space over driving dynamics.
We've seen the likes of Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo all roll out long-wheelbase versions of their compact and midsize sedans specifically to cater to Chinese tastes. Even Infiniti - which now bases itself in Hong Kong - offers a long-wheelbase Q70 L not only in China but around the world, and has now bolstered its extended offerings with the reveal of the Q50 L, set to debut at the Chengdu Motor Show later this month.
Set to be produced locally for the local market, the Q50 L adds nearly two inches to the wheelbase of the Q50 to the benefit of rear-seat legroom. Power comes from Infiniti's 2.0-liter turbo four offering 208 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, driving to the rear wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission with drive-by-wire steering.

New Infiniti QX crossover: expect a pretty Q60 on stilts

When the doors open at the Beijing Motor Show later this month, Infiniti will have a new concept to show off dubbed the QX Sport Inspiration. It takes the form of a mid-size sport-ute that could preview the next-generation QX70 crossover. The Japanese luxury automaker isn't giving us much to go on aside from the decidedly enigmatic teaser image above. But we're expecting the crossover concept to follow closely along the stylistic lines of the Q60 coupe concept we saw in Detroit earlier this year – albeit in a taller form with more space inside. And that's no bad thing, considering how sexy that two-door show car was. Infiniti tells us to anticipate such design elements as floating A-pillars and wide wheel arches, giving it a forward-looking and aggressive appearance that will foreshadow the company's next generation of crossovers. 2020 Infiniti Edition 30 cars debuting at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance

Infiniti is celebrating its 30th anniversary at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance next week, and itÂ’s rolling out a special edition for several models in its lineup. The anniversary cars are to be called Edition 30, and all of them feature similar changes. YouÂ’ll be able to get an Edition 30 for the Q50, Q60, QX50, QX60 and QX80. ThatÂ’s two sedans and three SUVs that are said to arrive in dealers this fall as 2020 model year cars — even though Infiniti launched in 1989, the first car it sold was a 1990 model year, so this matches up perfectly. Pictures of the Edition 30 cars are scant, but weÂ’ll be able to check them out in person at Pebble next week. Infiniti says they all feature special dark chrome accents in the exterior grille surround, fender trim and a little around the rear end, as well. YouÂ’ll get black side mirrors, dark gunmetal gray wheels and a body color rear apron. Additionally, all of them will be equipped with the ProAssist package as standard. This package includes driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control, distance control assist, a 360-degree camera, backup collision intervention and predictive forward collision warning. Pricing isnÂ’t available at this point for the special edition models, and we don't know if production numbers will be limited, either.
