Infiniti JX35 QX60 Hybrid confirmed for New York debut

The next Q-ified Infiniti will be making its debut at the New York Auto Show later this month, the QX60 - the crossover formerly known as JX35. And while there aren't many changes to the crossover in terms of design or function, the big news is that Infiniti will be revealing a production hybrid powertrain option for its seven-passenger luxury/utility vehicle.
The QX60 Hybrid uses the same powetrain found in Infiniti's M35h gasoline-electric sedan, which couples a 2.5-liter supercharged four-cylinder engine with a 15-kilowatt electric motor, running to the wheels via continuously variable transmission. Both front- and all-wheel-drive versions of the QX60 Hybrid will be available, and Infiniti says that the more efficient CUV should be good for around 26 miles per gallon combined - an improvement of five mpg over the current JX35 with its 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6. And because the compact lithium-ion battery will be housed underneath the third row seat, we're told that the hybrid model will still have the same passenger and cargo capacity of the non-hybrid crossover.
This will be the first three-row hybrid CUV offered in the US market, and wrapping it up in a luxury package makes a lot of sense to us, since it could be a good way of cajoling customers into absorbing the extra cost of the more expensive powertrain. (Keyword in that sentence: CUV. After all, the Cadillac Escalade is still currently available as a two-mode hybrid for the 2013 model year.) Infiniti has not released official pricing figures, but says that the hybrid model will represent a roughly $3,000 premium over the standard QX60.

Production Infiniti QX30 coming to LA Auto Show

Infiniti showed its QX30 small crossover in concept form at this year's Geneva Motor Show, and now, we've got confirmation that the production car will debut in Los Angeles. But this is just one of some 30 global reveals that will take place at the LA Auto Show this November. The QX30 will be a higher-riding version of the new Q30 hatchback that we'll see in Frankfurt later this month. And since the Q30 shares a lot of its underpinnings with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, we can probably expect the QX30 to be a sort of Infinitized GLA-Class. Just picture a lifted version of the production Q30 we've already seen in teaser shots. In addition to 30 global debuts, the LA Auto Show will host 20 North American reveals, including the Jaguar F-Pace, Kia Sportage, and Bentley Bentayga that will initially be shown in Frankfurt. The only other LA show global reveal we know about right now is the 2016 Hyundai Elantra. Still, there will no doubt be a lot to talk about come November, with Alfa Romeo, BMW, Bentley, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, and Volkswagen all confirming that they'll have something to show in Los Angeles. Infiniti Synaptiq concept 'spinal lock attachment' makes you one with your car

The theme of this year's LA Design Challenge is "Sensing the future" and asks, "How will cars interact with us in 2029?" Infiniti has kicked off entries in the LA Auto Show's yearly visionary party with its low, wide and versatile Synaptiq concept. Less a car and more of a set of interlocking pieces, the Synaptiq is termed a "universal fuselage pod," a teardrop-shaped capsule with a liquid-crystal canopy that can be fitted to different propulsion devices: a Formula One-like chassis, a desert buggy rig and a jet airframe.
Yet it answers the challenge not by being able to fly through deserts and air, but with its human-machine interface. The driver/pilot wears a Synaptic S.U.I.T. (Symbiotic User Interface Technology) fitted with biometric sensors and synthetic muscles, and through a "spinal lock attachment," he or she is made one with the car.
