Infiniti will offer free wireless Apple CarPlay upgrades for 2020-2021 cars

Owners of 2020-2021 Infiniti products with Apple CarPlay should be happy to hear this news. Infiniti just announced that owners of those vehicles are now eligible for a free upgrade to wireless Apple CarPlay. The list of eligible models includes 2020-2021 Q50, Q60, QX50 and QX80. All of those vehicles already have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but they operate via a wired connection only. This upgrade will make it such that you no longer have to plug into your Lightning cable to have Apple CarPlay splashed across the screen. If you own any of the above vehicles, we’d recommend getting a service appointment to have the upgrade installed — the update is said to take less than an hour. Infiniti says the complimentary software update will be available from now until March 31, 2022. Basically, get it while you can. WeÂ’ve asked Infiniti if a similar upgrade was coming for Android users, as many other manufacturers offer wireless Android Auto in addition to wireless Apple CarPlay. All a spokesperson would say is that "Infiniti is looking at Android Auto for future vehicle integration." The lack of wireless Android Auto will be affecting about 20% of Infiniti owners, as even Infiniti approximates that 20% of its luxury buyers are not Apple users. Autoblog's Matt Davis named Infiniti global product and brand communications director

The door that separates automotive journalism and automaker PR swings both ways, and swings often as we see journalists move over to PR and vice versa. This time, however, it's one of ours.
That would be Matt Davis, longtime European correspondent for Autoblog and frequent contributor to numerous other publications including AutoWeek, Edmunds and Esquire. He was co-founder and longtime chairman of the World Car of the Year Awards, and serves on the jury for the International Engine of the Year awards as well. Matt has resided in Milan since 2001, writing for publications around the world in a number of languages, but will now be moving to Hong Kong.
That's where he will be taking up his new position as Global Director of Production and Brand Communications for Infiniti, which relocated its global headquarters to Hong Kong from Japan more than two years ago. In his new capacity, which he officially assumes on July 14, Davis will report directly to Infiniti's general manager of communications Stefan Weinmann.

Infiniti Q30 prototype spotted winter testing

Infiniti is the latest luxury automaker preparing to join the premium hatchback segment, and after seeing a prototype wrapped in garbage bags undergoing warm-weather testing earlier last month, we're now looking at another test mule running in the snow. Previewed in concept form at the Frankfurt Motor Show over a year ago, the Infiniti Q30 is set to share its platform with the Mercedes GLA – with which it obviously shares its proportions, but from which it will be distinguished with unique styling with trademark Infiniti design cues. It's still hard to tell much from the spy shots (heavily camouflaged as is the prototype), but their emergence at least tells us that development is continuing apace. We wouldn't take too much stock in the Volvo V60 tailing it, though: automakers often benchmark the competition, but the Q30 will more directly compete with the next V40, along with the likes of the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and (maybe to a lesser extent) the Lexus CT 200h. Expect power to come from the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine used in the GLA and its stablemates as well. Production is slated to take place simultaneously in Decherd, TN, and in Sunderland, England, at Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK – one of the largest assembly plants in Europe. A QX30 crossover version better suited to rougher roads is slated to follow as well.
