Infiniti Q80 Inspiration Concept previews a fullsize future of luxury

Well, this certainly looks like a concept, doesn't it? From the wide, portal-esque door opeings to the boattail rear window design, there's just so much about the Infiniti Q80 Inspiration that looks like it would never actually reach production that we're impressed the automaker had the gumption to put the machine together and show it off at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
This marks the first time that Infiniti has shown any sort of real intent to enter into the rarefied air of the fullsize luxury sedan segment, populated as it is by the likes of the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Those are extremely heavy hitters to market against, and Infiniti sounds anxious to throw its hat in the ring.
"We aim to do this with elegance, style, and emotion," says Francois Bancon, Infiniti Vice President, Product Strategy. "This car is making a statement. Q80 Inspiration is a precursor of a production model in this segment and, as such, integral to our future."

Another Infiniti Q30 image found ahead of Frankfurt debut

Infiniti will introduce the new Q30, its smallest vehicle ever and its first foray into the compact, premium hatchback segment, next month at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The company confirmed the debut when it issued a single image of the new car last month. Now, we have a second shot. Released by the Twitter account of Infiniti's British outfit, the new shot is part of the #Q30Challenges campaign, which asks users to pick an object they'd like to reinvent. It shows the stylish hatch in the same bronzish-brown hue featured in the first image, but gives us a very wide front three-quarters view. We can see Infiniti's trademark C-pillar treatment, as well as a pair of wavy character lines. The shot also provides an especially good view of the Q30's long hood. The Q30 enters a segment that's nothing if not competitive, even here in the United States where small cars are a relatively recent phenomenon from premium automakers. Audi offers its A3, BMW is in the game with its 2 Series, Mercedes has its CLA and GLA and Lexus competes with the long-running CT 200h. The Q30 will be part of a two-pronged attack that will also include a QX30 crossover. It happens every year. We bid adieu to some cars and trucks that will be missed, and say good riddance to others wondering how they stayed around so long. Whether they're being killed off for slow sales or due to a new product coming along to replace them, the list of vehicles being discontinued after 2012 is surprisingly long and diverse.
CNN Money has compiled a list of departing vehicles, to which we've added a few more of our own. In the slow sales column, cars like the Lexus HS 250h, Mercedes-Benz R-Class and the full Maybach lineup appear, while the Ford Escape Hybrid, Mazda CX-7 and Hyundai Veracruz are all having their gaps filled with more modern and more fuel-efficient alternatives. Obvious exceptions to the rule include models that still sell in decent numbers like the Jeep Liberty and the Chrysler Town & Country (which will eventually be replaced by a crossover-like vehicle).
