Hyundai appoints William Lee as global head of Genesis
Tue, Oct 29 2019SEOUL — Hyundai on Tuesday named its former North American chief, William Lee, to oversee its premium Genesis brand following the departure of Manfred Fitzgerald to pursue new opportunities. Lee faces the challenge of rejuvenating Genesis sales in the U.S. market and making headway in Europe and China, both tough markets to crack for luxury car sales. "The company expects Mr. Lee, in his new capacity, to lead the brand's further global expansion by leveraging his overseas business operations expertise," Hyundai said in a statement. "North America is an imperative market for the Genesis brand," it added. The news follows the appointment this month of Mark Del Rosso, a former president of Audi America, to oversee Genesis operations in North America. Genesis U.S. sales halved to 10,312 last year, although sales have picked up this year. The United States is the biggest overseas market for Genesis, which generated 72% of its sales in South Korea last year. Before his stint at Hyundai Motor North America, Lee oversaw Hyundai's Brazil operations and the U.S. unit of advertising arm Innocean Worldwide. Hyundai said in a recent earnings conference call that it has set up Genesis sales operations for China and Europe. Hyundai Motor Group's heir apparent Euisun Chung introduced the Genesis brand in November 2015, bringing in Fitzgerald, a former Lamborghini executive, a few months later to help the automaker shed its value for money image. Bisimoto Hyundai Genesis Coupe is a 1,000-horsepower tuner dream
Wed, 06 Nov 2013The big guns are starting to roll out at the 2013 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. This is the Bisimoto Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the promised 1,000-horsepower monster that was first shown at the end of September. We ventured across the SEMA floor to get an up-close look at this hugely powerful two-door.
The list of aftermarket parts fitted to this Genesis Coupe is extensive, ranging from that huge intercooler up front to a pair of Bisimoto/Turbonetics turbochargers to an AEM engine management system, all of which allow the 3.8-liter V6 to produce upwards of 1,000 hp. A full roll cage and Buddy Club seats and harnesses are fitted to the cabin, while a coil-over suspension blesses this Genny with some extra agility. We don't know what size Toyo R888 R-Compound tires those are, but as they're fitted to 20x11-inch wheels in back and 20x9.5-inch wheels in front, we're betting they're huge. Hyundai Elantra interior teased
Thu, Aug 27 2015Hyundai doesn't seem too concerned about keeping the next-gen Elantra a secret. Following a recent teaser image of the updated exterior, the Korean company is now giving the world a look at the inside of its upcoming sedan. Similar to the outside, this monochrome rendering shows a minimalist overhaul for the interior. The controls are limited to a few buttons near the gearshift, some nobs on the center stack, and the functions on the steering wheel. The infotainment system is positioned at the center of the dashboard and is flanked by the HVAC vents. For a slight visual flourish, the dash wears a two-tone finish with a lighter shade on the bottom. A piece of trim stretches across the whole width to break up the colors. Hyundai confirmed the next-gen Elantra's debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show in November. That leaves a lot of time for even more teasers. Rumors suggest the powertrain range might include a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder, which produces 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque in the 2016 Tucson.
