I'm selling my 2011 Hyundai Sonata SE Pacific Pearl Blue with 27,5xx miles because I live in the city and don't want to pay the outrageous parking rates. I'm selling on CL because I like to cut out middlemen who do not add value whenever possible. In a nutshell, I want to split the dealer's take with you, and we can both go home happy.
- I have a folder with receipts documenting the maintenance and small repairs done on the car; the CarFax history report also verifies maintenance.
- The car has had manufacture suggested checks up to the mileage to-date.
- Oil/checks have been performed every 5k for the first 15k, and every 3k thereafter. The service dates were done by Hyundai dealerships who also performed some warranty work. Since about 15k miles, I have been taking the car to my local mechanic that has been servicing my family's cars for 15 years; we have had cars run to over 215k.
*Appearance/Exterior Work*
- In 2012, I was rear ended at a low speed while on a trip with the car. The damages were approximately $1,200 and were on the real drivers-side bumper. Recently, my drivers-side taillight became unhooked from the plastic bolts holding it in place, and I had the taillight replaced last week. I believe the taillight issue was related to the fender bender.
- The car was parked on the street in Chicago for approximately 11 months at my old apartment. During that time, I had the good fortune of being the recipient of small paint scrapes on the rear bumper, a keying on the rear passenger door (aprox. 1.5 inches), and a scoff that appears to be from a door on the rear driver's side door (aprox .25 inches). The passenger side wheels also have a few curb burns from parking too close to the curb.
-- Last week, I took the car to the body shop and had them replace the rear taillight (from above), and buff and touch-up the bumper and respective scrapes on the doors. The paint scrapes on the rear bumper are virtually gone, and the two scrapes on the doors require effort to find. I have the receipt.
- I just had the car detailed (interior and exterior) on 9/14.
From my personal point of view, my favorite aspects of the car are, in no particular order:
- looks: Hyundai did a great job redesigning the Sonata's in 2011, and the SE has bigger wheels than the Limited and more chrome than the GLS and Limited.
- efficiency and practicality: I regularly get 35+mpg on the highway and the gas tank is large enough to outlive most bladders on road trips. In terms of practicality, its a four-door sedan; it holds people comfortably and has a great size trunk.
- reliability: I have never had any problems with the car, and the warranty comforted me at the original purchase (and is still valid with plenty of time and miles remaining). The Sonata line is well regarded in terms of reliability and maintenance is relatively cheap (it ain't no BMW).
- driving: The driving experience is enjoyable for a mid-size sedan; the manual mode in the transmission is great for passing and provides a satisfactory illusion of a more sporty car on two lane twisties.
- technology: bluetooth in the car is literally lifesaving and makes it easy to make phone calls and play music from a phone and they keyless entry and start are great (you don't even have to remove the key from your pocket).

Bisimoto Hyundai Genesis Coupe is a 1,000-horsepower tuner dream
Wed, 06 Nov 2013The big guns are starting to roll out at the 2013 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. This is the Bisimoto Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the promised 1,000-horsepower monster that was first shown at the end of September. We ventured across the SEMA floor to get an up-close look at this hugely powerful two-door.
The list of aftermarket parts fitted to this Genesis Coupe is extensive, ranging from that huge intercooler up front to a pair of Bisimoto/Turbonetics turbochargers to an AEM engine management system, all of which allow the 3.8-liter V6 to produce upwards of 1,000 hp. A full roll cage and Buddy Club seats and harnesses are fitted to the cabin, while a coil-over suspension blesses this Genny with some extra agility. We don't know what size Toyo R888 R-Compound tires those are, but as they're fitted to 20x11-inch wheels in back and 20x9.5-inch wheels in front, we're betting they're huge. We've got a full list of aftermarket goodies in the press release below.
We also have a full gallery of live images of the Bisimoto Genesis on the SEMA Show floor up top, so be sure to hop in and take a look at just what kind of potential can be found in this two-door Korean sports coupe.
IED PassoCorso concept is a student-designed Hyundai we can get behind
Fri, 21 Feb 2014Sometimes the best ideas come from fresh eyes, and a group of design students from Istituto Europeo di Design - better known as IED - are out to prove that sentiment with this striking Hyundai PassoCorto concept. This two-seat thesis project of the Master of Arts in Transportation Design program for the Turin, Italy school will be officially unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show beginning March 4.
The concept is said to be 161 inches long, 74 inches wide and 45.7 inches tall. It rides on a 96.5-inch wheelbase, which makes sense since passo corto means "short wheelbase" in Italian. The engine is tipped to be a mid-mounted, twin-turbo, 1.6-liter four-cylinder pumping out 266 horsepower. Judging by these images, we think the design looks fantastic, with all those sharp lines and creases drawing to a point in the rear. It shows a wonderful balance of being wild enough to draw attention, yet it almost looks realistic enough for the road.
The styling comes from 16 IED students coordinated by Luca Borgogno, lead designer for fabled Italian design house Pininfarina. The students were given a design brief by Hyundai to create a vehicle aimed at young, connected people like them. All of the students submitted a proposal, and two were selected to be merged together in a final look. The entire class contributed to bringing the design to full scale. Scroll down to get the full scoop on the little sports car concept.
Hyundai's 2015 Genesis Super Bowl commercial is Dad-approved
Mon, 27 Jan 2014Super Bowl commercials allow advertising and marketing execs the opportunity to let their hair down, have a bit of fun and get silly. That's why Audi's ad features a mutant, CGI-animated dog, GoDaddy's spot features a beefcake Danica Patrick and Kia has recruited Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus, from the Matrix films. Hyundai, meanwhile, didn't seem to get the memo.
It's not that its spot is bad, but it does feel a bit boring, playing a lot like Hyundai's non-Super Bowl advertisements - in other words, not something we're going to be talking about next Monday around the water cooler. Called Dad's Sixth Sense, the 30-second clip shows off the 2015 Genesis Sedan and its auto emergency braking system, after showing dad's saving their kids from what we imagine would be fairly painful, and in some cases horrific, accidents (tackling a hot barbecue, anyone?).
We've got the full spot down below. Keep your eye out for it on Super Bowl Sunday.
