2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo: July/August 2013

If you've been reading the past several updates on our long-term 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo, you may have noticed a trend developing. This is a flawed vehicle. Not critically so, but for many of our editors, this vehicle's annoying attributes are indeed outweighing the good. What may not be obvious, though, is that the deck is kind of stacked against the Turbo model.
See, a Veloster with its base powertrain and less of the gimmicky, look-at-me styling is a solid, fashion-forward, nicely packaged hatchback at a good price. Our issues haven't so much been with the Veloster itself, but with the unfulfilled expectations of hot-hatchery that the Turbo brings to the equation.
For this update, then, I will focus on a common bridge between the two Veloster models: the cars' top-end infotainment systems. Tack on the Style and Tech packs on the standard Veloster or the Ultimate Package on a Veloster Turbo, and you'll get the same Blue Link infotainment system, touchscreen navigation and eight-speaker Dimension stereo (a standard item on the VT).

A new study predicts that biofuels capacity will grow to 61 billion gallons per year by 2018. The findings from Lux Research also suggest that biodiesel and ethanol will make up 96 percent (about 5.76 billion gallons) of that. Sixty-four percent of biofuels will come from the Americas, led by the US and Brazil, but with Colombia and Argentina emerging as important producers. Other large emerging producers are China, Indonesia, and Thailand in Asia, and Portugal, Poland, and France in Europe. A large share of next-generation biofuels are expected to come from waste oils. The images show what are likely cosmetic upgrades for the JDM version of the hybrid, including a rear spoiler, front spoiler lip, extended side skirts and a selection of wheels ranging from 15 to 18 inches. Also shown are LED daytime running lights and a dual-tip, centrally mounted exhaust. Keyes Hyundai in northern Los Angeles has met the requirements to sell the hydrogen-powered CUV. So far, Hyundai has delivered more than 75 Tucson Fuel Cell vehicles, which have logged almost 700,000 miles on southern California roads. "Keyes Hyundai is thrilled to be added as a qualified dealer for Hyundai's zero-emissions Tucson Fuel Cell hydrogen electric vehicle," says David Kohan, the dealership's general manager. "Our location in the northern Los Angeles region makes it even more convenient for local residents to conveniently acquire their new Tucson Fuel Cell CUV, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions." Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo Concept looks ready for Le Mans

It's Bugatti versus... Hyundai? Yes, the revered hypercar manufacturer is facing some stiff competition for coolest car at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show from the affordable South Korean brand, and it's because both companies chose the German show to introduce their Vision Gran Turismo Concepts. While we'll leave Bugatti's entry to another scribe, we're going to spill plenty of ink on the new N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo, Hyundai's entry to the eponymous video game's well-received Vision program. While so many of these concepts have some basis in reality, Hyundai has tossed out its production vehicles in favor of a far racier concept. Yes, the N 2025 looks better suited to the 24 Hours of Le Mans prototype class than an auto show stage. Details are scarce – automakers don't usually give out a lot of info on powertrains and the like in these Vision GT cars – but Hyundai says it "highlights sustainable technology," which makes us think that there's some kind of hybrid drivetrain underneath that aerodynamic body. Perhaps the coolest thing about the N 2025, though, is that it's not hard to imagine it on a race track of the future. Hyundai has only ever really played around in the World Rally Championship, but with this Vision GT car, it shows the South Korean brand may have the chops for a much higher tier of racing.
