Hyundai reveals flying car among other wacky concepts [w/video]

Hyundai has held an IDEA festival for the past three years that gives its engineers a break from seat belts, and electrical harnesses and wheel arch moldings. Each festival serves up a theme for personal mobility, after that there's no limit - competing teams can come up with anything that serves the theme and are encouraged to get creative.
That's how you get concepts like the E4U 'egg car' (pictured); a single-stander mode of transportation that channels Mork from Ork. The oddest thing about the egg is not the yellow shell but the helmet the 'driver' wears. Other ideas included a flying car with 16 (!) rotors, a bicycle that could serve as a spare tire and a car with five joints. Although most appeared totally impractical, all were totally cool.
This year's festival is in the works, the theme being the rather ambiguous "R&D for customers," the point is apparently to come up with concepts that Hyundai customers might actually use. There's a video with scenes of last year's festival and a press release below (our vote goes to the Pandora).

I'm Autoblog senior editor Greg Migliore and this is your Autoblog Minute weekly recap. 2011 was the last time we saw Ford's midsize pickup in the US but according to a report from the Detroit News we could see production of the Ranger at the [00:00:30] Dearborn automaker's Michigan Assembly Plant as early as 2018. Ranger could compete with the Chevy Colorado and perhaps revive the compact and midsize pickup market for Ford, but the future of Ranger in the US depends a lot on Ford's ongoing negotiations with the UAW. About 2,000 orders for the 2015 Mustang were placed in the UK, tying up production of the pony car until July 2016. According to details in a press release from Ford UK, [00:01:00] it looks like Brits are a lot like their American cousins, opting for the 5.0 liter V8, with Race Red as the popular color of choice. Photos of the 2016 Toyota Prius leaked generating a lot of buzz over the styling. This fourth generation Prius will have some new competition as spy shots of a new Hyundai also surfaced this week. Vegas dealer sets world record with 218-Hyundai parade

How many Hyundais would you need to gather in one parade to set a world record? 218, it turns out. That's how many of the Korean automobiles gathered for a recent procession which has now been certified by Guinness as a world record. The event was orchestrated by Henderson Hyundai just outside of Las Vegas, NV, raising $4,000 for the STOP DUI campaign. Though the parade was actually held back in December as part of National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, it was just verified by Guinness now, with each of the 218 motorists to receive a certificate of participation at a celebratory event at the dealership this coming Saturday. The record had been previously set by Lithuanian business consulting firm UAB SDG. Of course that's just the record for Hyundais specifically. Guinness also keeps records of other brands and vehicle types as well. Ram, for example, set the record for the most pickups in a parade this past April at 451, while a procession of 964 Ferraris set another record at Silverstone in 2012.
