Genesis, Hyundai, Ram win North American Car, Utility, Truck of the Year at NAIAS
Mon, Jan 14 2019DETROIT — The Hyundai Genesis G70, Hyundai Kona/Kona Electric and the Ram pickup have received North American car, sport utility and truck of the year awards. The awards were announced Monday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This year's car finalists also included the Honda Insight and Volvo S60/V60. Truck finalists included the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500. SUV finalists also included the Acura RDX and the Jaguar I-Pace. Last year's winners were the Honda Accord, Lincoln Navigator and the Volvo XC60. About 55 automotive journalists serve as judges. Eligible vehicles must be new or substantially changed. Hyundai and Rhys Millen reunite, will return to Pikes Peak with new RWD racer, Genesis Coupe
Tue, 15 Jan 2013Last September, Hyundai confirmed that it was exiting all of its motorsports programs in North America. That left Rhys Millen Racing without a title sponsor for its Formula Drift and Global RallyCross Championship series challengers. It also looked to have meant the end of a partnership that last year resulted in a record-setting run at Pikes Peak when Rhys Millen established the new benchmark for a run up the Colorado mountain in a production-based race car.
Hyundai clarified that September report by saying it was "reconsidering our continued involvement in Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, having achieved the world record in a Hyundai Genesis Coupe this year." The return is official, with Hyundai saying it is going back to the peak with Millen and two cars, one of them a "purpose-built unlimited class rear-drive," the other being the Hyundai Genesis Coupe-based racer that set last year's record in the time attack two-wheel-drive class.
Hyundai wants to show off the strength of its engineering, so the unlimited car will have something like 900 horsepower and 800 pound-feet of torque while using the production block, cylinder heads, bearings and accessories of its Lambda V6 engine. Next-gen Hyundai Genesis reveals new skin on 'Ring
Wed, 17 Apr 2013The launch of the next-generation Hyundai Genesis is drawing closer and closer, and this latest set of spy shots gives us our best look yet at the Korean automaker's new sedan. Caught testing on the Nürburgring, we're not only getting a better look at the finer details of the Hyundai's exterior, but this set of photos gives us a clear view inside the cockpit, as well.
For its new generation, the Hyundai Genesis appears to be moving a bit more upmarket in terms of materials and layout, with a redesigned steering wheel, gauge cluster and center stack. The current car's analog clock appears to be left intact, smack dab in the middle of the heating and cooling controls, but the rest of the updates look decidedly more modern and, if we're honest, a bit German.
Outside, it's obvious that the new Hyundai will wear a more aggressive front fascia, along with what appears to be a more rakish rear deck. Earlier reports have stated that the next Genesis will be much lighter than the current car, and with a much more sporty tune to the suspension. We'll know more when the car is officially revealed, though it's still unclear exactly when that will be.
