You'll see that it's a gorgeous car and has everything you want!
INTERIOR: Redefining family sedans' interior with new design and class-above space. In more ways than one, Sonata is a step above. Find a gas station, track vehicle maintenance and send voice-to-text messages without leaving the driver's seat, thanks to Blue Link™. Enjoy space and comfort for yourself and four friends inside. Listen to all your favorite artists through the AM/FM/XM®/CD/MP3 Audio System. Plus, find eight ways to perfect comfort with the power-adjustable driver seat with power lumbar support. BLUE LINK® Blue Link technology is designed to make your everyday life easier. Connect to Blue Link through your smartphone, a web application, or an in-car system to locate a gas station, find a shortcut, learn about mechanical issues, call for help and much more. INTERIOR VOLUME: The Sonata has more interior volume and cargo space than the Toyota Camry. More head room, more leg room in front, and thanks to specially designed recessed hinges, even a larger trunk. In other words: plenty of room for five, plus luggage. CONTROL: When you spend a lot of time behind the wheel, you tend to become an expert in seat comfort. So when Hyundai owners told our seat engineers--yes, we have engineers dedicated solely to seat design--that they weren't getting quite enough leg support, we listened. We did a lot of calculations and experiments, created and tested a number of prototypes and, finally, brought them to consumers to try. NAVIGATION SYSTEM: The Sonata's navigation system makes it easy to get from A to B with voice recognition or through the interactive touchscreen. The XM NavTraffic® and XM Data Services allow you to search for nearby businesses like gas stations, ATMs or restaurants, get a clear picture of the current traffic situations, and check the weather, stocks and sports scores, all in real time. PANORAMIC SUNROOF: Get a wide-angle view of the sky, day or night, with Sonata's panoramic sunroof that extends the entire length of the roof. PROXIMITY KEY: No more fumbling for the key in your pocket or purse. The Sonata recognizes your key fob and with a push of a button on the door handle, automatically unlocks the door for you. Now you can get in, hit the push button start and go. REARVIEW CAMERA: You can never be too safe when reversing. The view from the Sonata rearview camera is displayed on the central in-dash touchscreen, with guidelines that help direct you into tight spots and take the guesswork out of backing up. AUDIO SYSTEM: The AM/FM/XM®/CD/MP3 Audio System comes with 6 speakers and includes a subwoofer with an external amp. It also comes with XM Satellite Radio for the best commercial-free radio and a complimentary three-month subscription on us. Plus the built-in iPod®/USB and auxiliary jacks let you access your iPod® through the audio controls, display track and artist information, even charge it as it plays. INTEGRATED BLUETOOTH®: If you must talk while driving, please do it with your hands on the wheel. The Sonata's standard Bluetooth technology with phonebook transfer gives you hands-free access to your phone with a very handy voice recognition control. HOMELINK® Perfect for the cold, dark winters, the integrated HomeLink transceiver allows you to switch on lights, turn on the heat, open garage doors--all without getting out of the car. TRIP COMPUTER WITH CUSTOM SETTINGS: Average speed, average and instant fuel consumption, miles to empty--these are a given from modern trip computers. But the Sonata takes it a step further by allowing you to customize things like having your doors lock automatically upon reaching pre-set speeds, or the movement of the gear shift lever. You can even adjust the delay time to automatically shut off your headlights when you park. SIT DOWN, RELAX - The driver seat is heated and has an eight-way power adjustment to make even long trips seem short. Lest your passengers get jealous, both front and rear seats are also heated, and have been shaped to provide extra leg support that reduces discomfort and fatigue. SAFETY: As the first family sedan to receive a 5-Star crash test rating even under new, more stringent guidelines*, it's no surprise Sonata earned the 2012 IIHS Top Safety Award.** *The Federal Government's new 2011 guidelines **Winner of the 2012 IIHS Top Safety Award Thanks to airbags galore, 4-wheel ABS brakes, front and rear crumple zones, and a whole host of modern safety technologies, the Sonata received a 2011 'Top Pick' award from the IIHS. And with a name like the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, you can bet they take their testing very seriously. ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL: NHTSA analysis estimates that passenger cars equipped with ESC may experience 35% fewer single-vehicle crashes, and 30% fewer single-vehicle fatalities*. ESC sensors measure the difference between a driver's intended path--when a turn is less or more than intended--and applies appropriate braking force to individual wheels to help regain control. ESC also includes Traction Control System (TCS), which reduces wheelspin when accelerating. TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM: By reducing wheelspin in various adverse traction conditions, including inclement weather, Traction Control gives more stable and predictable acceleration characteristics for a more confident, controlled driving experience. ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM: Emergency braking maneuvers can cause a vehicle's wheels to lock up and skid, resulting in a loss of steering control exactly when you need it most. ABS helps prevent the possibility of wheel lockup under hard braking, and rapidly pulses the brakes to help you retain steering control as you come to a stop. ELECTRONIC BRAKE-FORCE DISTRIBUTION EBD: balances braking forces at each wheel when the car is dynamically loaded. This helps the driver maintain confident control in difficult braking situations. BRAKE ASSIST: In emergency braking situations, many drivers may not apply sufficient braking force to achieve the shortest possible stopping distance. Brake Assist helps detect emergency braking and ensures the maximum braking force is immediately applied to minimize stopping distances. The power plant remains Hyundai's 2.4-liter, four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. Power from the four-cylinder is rated at 166 hp, while the electric motor adds 40 hp for a total system output of 206 hp.?Thanks to its unique design, the Sonata Hybrid is expected to achieve 37 mpg in the city and up to 40 mpg on the highway -- the latter leading the mid-size hybrid segment. The Sonata Hybrid is also capable at traveling up to 62 mph on electric power -- beating the previously class-leading Ford Fusion 's 47 mph electric-only rating. The front grill has a variable opening that will change the acceptable air flow for different speeds. The entire underside of the Sonata is sealed like a Ferrari for better air flow as well. |

Hyundai promises brand new EV for US within three years
Thu, Jan 23 2014The big and official news from Hyundai at the Washington Auto Show this week was that a bunch of people went to the website for the Tucson Fuel Cell CUV. But as Michael O'Brien, the vice president of corporate and product planning for Hyundai Motor America, was announcing that bit of news, an off-hand mention of something more battery-powered caught our ear. Hyundai calls the hydrogen Tucson the "next-generation EV," but in the US, that H2 vehicle will actually beat an EV to the company's showrooms. There have been hints about a Hyundai EV in the US before – and the Korean company has shown off the BlueOn EV (pictured), based on the i10 – but O'Brien was willing to give a little bit more information on the still-nebulous EV plans. "It will be a new product, that's all we can say right now" The i10 electric vehicles have been in service since they were used at the G20 summit in Seoul, Korea in 2010 O'Brien said, but the EV that's coming to the US will be completely different. It will be a compact-class EV wearing the Hyundai badge (so, not the Soul EV from sister brand Kia) that could, based on demand, be sold in more locations than the Tucson Fuel Cell, which is going to be limited to places like California where there are hydrogen fueling stations. "It will be a new product, that's all we can say right now," O'Brien said. "It will be within the next three years. Not a firm production date, but soon." In general, Hyundai is still more confident in hydrogen as the preferred zero-emission solution, and O'Brien cited range anxiety as the number one obstacle to EV adoption, with the slow recharge rate in second place. Still, strict emissions regulations mean that automakers will need to look at many options, and Hyundai is more ready than ever to dip its toes in the plug-in side of the pool. Hyundai pickup gets glimmer of hope, Equus may go turbo
Mon, Jun 1 2015While it still doesn't technically have a green light for production from headquarters yet, rumors over the last few weeks suggest that the Hyundai Santa Cruz is all but certain to arrive in showrooms eventually. Now, we might be getting a hint about which of the company's models that the unibody truck might share underpinnings with. According to Auto World News, the platform from the 2016 Tucson and upcoming 2017 Elantra is a potential choice for the pickup. "We're always looking for efficiencies," said an unnamed Hyundai product planner to the website. "If you look at how well the Santa Cruz was received, it certainly helps make the case." An earlier rumor also hinted the truck might be the automaker's first diesel-powered model in the US. Meanwhile at the top of the brand's lineup, the next-generation Equus may see some significant changes. "Like much of that segment, it's fair to say you can expect the Equus will expand," the product planner said. Underneath the larger hood, a turbocharged powerplant is reportedly being considered. Given the development of a twin-turbo V6 from Hyundai with around 420 horsepower, that part of the rumor certainly makes some sense. A 10-speed automatic might also be offered eventually. Recharge Wrap-up: Chevy Volt's new, improved powertrain; Inabikari wants to build Tesla Model X fighter
Thu, Nov 6 2014We knew the 2016 Chevrolet Volt's new powertrain would provide more range, but we didn't know how much. According to GM's Executive Director Larry Nitz, it is about 12 percent more, overall. "I can't think of a powertrain we've re-engineered more extensively within a five-year period than this one," he said. The battery, electric drive system and gasoline generator have all been reworked to allow for an overall driving range of up to 425 miles, with electric range speculated to reach 42 miles or more. The new Volt will also benefit from 20 percent quicker low-end acceleration, weight reductions and improvements in NVH. Read more at Hybrid Cars and at the SAE website. Hyundai's FCEV research and development boss, Dr. Sae-Hoon Kim, is optimistic about the future of hydrogen mobility in Japan. With the Tucson Fuel Cell already in production ahead of Toyota's FCV, Hyundai has a foothold in the hydrogen car scene. Kim believes that since the Fukushima disaster, Japan's attitudes toward energy make it friendly to a growing hydrogen economy. He also says that hydrogen won't be limited to Hyundai, with Kia getting all the battery EVs. "Both types are for both companies," Kim says. "For the moment, volumes are small and it is not wise to have Hyundai and Kia competing." Read more at Just Auto. The Latvian/German startup Inabikari is using crowdfunding to build an electric crossover for Europe. The Rev.01 EV hopes to compete with Tesla's upcoming Model X with a range of over 400 miles and a five-second 0-60 time. The group currently is trying to raise initial funds through an Indiegogo campaign, with hopes of more investment in the future and sales beginning in 2017. See the video below, and read more at Hybrid Cars and at the Inabikari website. Fuel economy and emissions regulations could lead to some interesting design changes to automobiles. The World Light Duty Test Procedure, set to replace the New European Driving Cycle in 2017, will push automakers to find new ways to reduce drag on their vehicles. For better aerodynamics, we could see traditional side-view mirrors replaced by cameras that display what they see on screens inside the vehicle. Another likely change will be the introduction of smaller, narrower wheels. Improving the average drag coefficient from 0.32 to 0.20 could reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 20 percent.
