Hyundai Sonata is the first application of Android Auto

Hyundai is grabbing an early technological lead as the first automaker to launch Android Auto in one of its production models. The Google-made operating system is now available on the 2015 Sonata with navigation, and current owners of the vehicle can get the software through an update available at dealers. The OS arrives on additional Hyundai products soon. Similar to Apple's CarPlay, Android Auto syncs with a smartphone to mirror some elements of the operating system directly on the vehicle's infotainment screen. The software allows for navigation through Google Maps, text messaging, and phone calls. Plus, it supports some third-party apps, as well. A driver can then control all of these functions through the car's microphone and physical controls. In a nod to safety, Android Auto also locks the phone's screen when in use to keep people from looking at their device while on the road. Beyond the Android Auto software in the Sonata, users need Android 5.0 or later and a companion app on their phone. Several other automakers intend to support the standard in the future. Hyundai Elantra interior teased

Hyundai doesn't seem too concerned about keeping the next-gen Elantra a secret. Following a recent teaser image of the updated exterior, the Korean company is now giving the world a look at the inside of its upcoming sedan. Similar to the outside, this monochrome rendering shows a minimalist overhaul for the interior. The controls are limited to a few buttons near the gearshift, some nobs on the center stack, and the functions on the steering wheel. The infotainment system is positioned at the center of the dashboard and is flanked by the HVAC vents. For a slight visual flourish, the dash wears a two-tone finish with a lighter shade on the bottom. A piece of trim stretches across the whole width to break up the colors. Hyundai confirmed the next-gen Elantra's debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show in November. That leaves a lot of time for even more teasers. Rumors suggest the powertrain range might include a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder, which produces 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque in the 2016 Tucson.

Hyundai testing Sprinter-style commercial van

Commercial vehicle sales are a key component to the success of many automakers, and in its persistent drive to become one of the largest in the world, it's a segment Hyundai can't very well ignore. But while it offers the i800 and H-series vans overseas, it hasn't offered anything bigger than a Tucson or Santa Fe in North America since the demise of the Entourage and Veracruz. That could all change in the near future, however, if these latest spy shots are anything to go by.
Pictured undergoing testing in Europe, this Hyundai commercial van prototype looks to be about the size of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter or Ram ProMaster. There's little we can tell from these disguised spy shots at the moment, other than to note that this Hyundai is big and has small wheels, in typical European van style. We can't even tell if this is front-, rear- or all-wheel drive.
Of course, we have no indication at this point whether the van pictured here will make the transatlantic voyage to American showrooms. But with Mercedes having led the Euro van charge with the aforementioned Sprinter, and with the likes of Ford, Ram and Nissan all following suit, it seems possible. However, between the upgrades to service departments often necessary to accommodate such large vehicles and the sales retraining necessary to court commercial truck customers, doing so wouldn't simply be a plug-and-play operation - it would undoubtedly take a great deal of effort and money.
