MotorWeek checks out two sides of the '90s Japanese car scene
Sat, Feb 6 2016MotorWeek's Retro Reviews let you feel nostalgic about a huge range of classic cars, and the latest two releases offer a look at two very different sides of the Japanese car market in the 1990s. The video above shows off tuned examples of the Mazda RX-7 and Nissan 300ZX. Check out the clip below to remember the 1997 Honda CR-V, if you want to reminisce about something a little more utilitarian. The RX-7 and 300ZX were among the era's best Japanese sports cars, and these examples' suspension and engine overhauls gave them an extra boost. Peter Farrel Supercars tunes the Mazda, and the vibrant yellow paint and body kit make it look ready for an episode of Initial D. The updated powertrain stands up to the mean styling and gets the RX-7 to 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds. The Stillen 300ZX GTZ sports a giant wing, and new turbos take the output to 465 hp. It sprints to 60 in 4.9 seconds. The CR-V sits on the opposite end of the automotive spectrum as the tuned RX-7 and 300ZX, but it's even more important in a historical sense. The Honda (along with the Toyota RAV4 and others) was among the progenitors of today's mega-popular compact crossovers. These early examples set the foundation for offering buyers a utilitarian vehicle in a comfortable package with good fuel economy at an affordable price. All Honda Accord Hybrid production moving to Japan
Fri, Apr 10 2015The Honda Accord Hybrid will no longer be made in Marysville, OH. Honda has announced that the model – as well as the Accord Plug-In – will now be made in Sayama, Japan, where both have been built since 2013. With production moving so far away from the US market, the costs for these vehicles could increase, but there's no official word on that from Honda. Angie Nucci, spokesperson for Honda North America, did not discount the idea but just told AutoblogGreen that, "We don't have details on pricing to share at this point." Sales of the green-minded Accords are down so far this year. Through the end of March, the PHEV sold just 45 units, a 35-percent drop from the 69 sold in the first three months of 2014. Things weren't as bad for the non-plug Accord Hybrid, which has sold 2,585 units so far this year compared to 2,781 last year, a seven-percent drop. 2014 Honda Grom motorcycle is a 125cc-shot of awesome [w/video]

My very first turn at the handlebars of a motorcycle came courtesy of an MSF Honda CB125. Despite the fact that it wore a very stern sticker on the tank warning all who rode that it was for instructional purposes only and not for legal sale, I wanted nothing more than to ride it past the cones of my license test and straight home. There was just something about the lightweight, low-power machine that just felt right. Now Honda is giving American buyers the chance to take home something similar. Meet the Grom. Yes, it's basically a sexed-up scooter, but that's fine by me.
There's a fuel-injected 125cc single pushing the fat-tired bike around, and a four-speed gearbox handles shifting duty.The smallish 12-inch wheels give the Grom a bit of a goofball appearance, but the handsome bodywork and gold forks help offset the look. Something tells me this joker is more fun than should be legal.
