You are bidding on a 1999 Honda Odyssey with noreserve!  The opening bid is our cost forputting the van on eBay.  It currentlyhas 220,362 miles on the odometer.  Thespeedometer is slightly optimistic: 27MPH on the speedometer is actually 25MPH and 70MPH on the speedometeris actually 65MPH.  There is probably alinear mathematical equation you can use to figure that out but I’m not sogood at math (nor do I speed that much) to make a difference.  We are the third owners of the van.  Its first two owners were in Michigan, wherewe purchased it in 2005 (on eBay).  It then spent some years in New Mexicoand South Carolina before moving up to Ohio last fall.  So, it has only had to endure one winter inOhio.

It’s old.  14 yearsold and starting to show it.  The paintis original and in surprisingly good condition for a van that has never beengaraged.  It starts and runs, drives welland the front and rear A/C still blow cold. But, the check engine light is on so it will NOT pass an emissionstest.  I have recently taken it toChicago and back and still drive it to and from work almost every day.  The check engine light is on because of afault in the wiring for the front oxygen sensor heater and a hose broken to theevaporative canister.  I have replacedthe sensor twice so I know it is not the sensor.  Frankly I’m just too lazy to trace theproblem down.  As far as the canistergoes, I know what it does and don’t want to spend the money to fix it.  It doesn’t affect drivability and I still get19/20 MPG in town and 24 to 26 on the highway. The rear brakes make a little noise in the morning (I had them replacedtwo years ago).  It might be surface rustfrom sitting overnight or brake dust but again I’m too lazy to look intoit.  Sometimes the passenger window makessome noise on the way up depending on how long it’s been since I’ve cleaned thetracks.  Both of the sliding doors workbut have their minor issues from time to time; one needs the handle to bepulled harder than normal and the other, well, works, but takes a little moreeffort to close.  All the doors and liftgate seal and there are no water leaks.  Thepictures show a missing temperature control knob on the dash but that has beenreplaced.  We have gone without it for solong that we forgot to install the new one before we took the pictures.

There are stains on the carpets as you can see in thepictures.   The van doesn’t smell bad;it’s just been well used.  My wife took asteam cleaner to the seats and carpets a week before these pictures were takenbut like I said, it’s old.  Also, it hasbeen through 3 daughters and a dog on many VERY LONG road trips: thus the highmileage.  We are a former militaryfamily, and every trip to everywhere was a long one!   We replaced the transmission around 190,000miles and have been trouble free since. Tie rod ends and front stabilizer links were replaced about 50,000 milesago.  I bought two new tires for thefront last fall (which are now in the back) and the other two have a couple ofyears and about 20,000 miles on them. With the installation of the tires I had an alignment performed and thetiming belt changed as well.   I’m prettyfanatical about keeping receipts for any repairs I have done on my vehicles soyou will get a folder of receipts and information of everything we have haddone with this one.  It has had regularoil changes at 5,000 mile intervals (the most recent about a week ago) and Iplan to leave the Kenwood receiver in the dash. It is fully operational.  Theoriginal stereo, a shop manual (pictured) and a sun shade will come with thevan as well.  The only things in thepictures that don’t come with the van are as much gas as the gauge says and myNew Mexico license plate.

It comes pre-scratched and dented for your convenience.  One of my favorite things about this van(other than it just keeps running) is that if I get new scratches from somecareless bratty child in a parking lot, I’d never know! J  Anyway, the dent where the passenger doormeets the left front quarter panel was from a neighbor backing into it and thedent on the left front quarter panel near the top was from a deer running intothe van.  There are other scratches allaround the van as you can see in the pictures. There is a small chip in the windshield on the passenger side as well.  I’ll not try to hide anything about thevan.  I’ve been writing this descriptionfor weeks and as I think of things I add them to the description.  The last thing I want is for you to see thevan after agreeing to buy it and be surprised by something I failed tomention.  Despite the recall issues thelater body styles of Odyssey’s are encountering, this one is emergingunscathed.   No owner or passenger of this van has eversmoked.  If you have any questions pleasefeel free to contact us.  It has been atremendous vehicle for our family.

So why are we getting rid of it?  We now live in Lake County Ohio that has anemissions check requirement and I just don’t want to pay to get it fixed.  Also, we have three other vehicles and therereally is no reason to have a fourth when our children are too young to drive.  (My wife has her own Odyssey!)

This van is being sold as is.  There is no warranty, actual or implied.  The van mustbe picked up or arrangements for delivery must be made within one week (7 days)of auction completion.  You must also make arrangments for registration and insurance.

Honda demonstrates new Vehicle-to-Pedestrian safety tech [w/video]

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

We're fresh from a balmy rooftop deck in downtown Detroit, where Honda held a meeting this week to discuss and demonstrate a few upcoming advanced safety features. A clear focus of the mini event was the company's new Vehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P) technology, with a suite of Vehicle-to-Motorcycle (V2M) tech a significant second course.
With spirits still high from announcing the 2014 Odyssey as the first minivan to win the Top Safety Pick+ status from IIHS - and after seeing the application of new high-strength-steel sections of the Acura MDX body structure - Honda shared the fruits of some safety tech that is still in the research phase.

McLaren and Honda rekindle a winning combination

Fri, Nov 28 2014

With the 2014 Formula One World Championship now drawn to a close, all eyes are fixed on next season. And for both McLaren and Honda, that means the dawn of a new era – or hopefully, the return to one bygone. After twenty years running Mercedes engines, McLaren is switching back to Honda next season, rekindling the most successful partnership the once-dominant team has ever had. Immediately after swapping to Honda power in 1988 – and with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost behind the wheel – McLaren entered its winningest era, racking up four consecutive world championships. In the two decades it's spent under Mercedes power since, it won three drivers' titles and one constructors', leaving the relatively brief Honda era as its most successful. It was also the most successful for Honda, which had enjoyed success with Williams and some with Lotus, but far more with McLaren – the likes of which it was never able to recreate. The Japanese automaker that was the first to break into the Euro-centric series left grand prix racing when it left McLaren, and despite returning to fund its own team for the better part of a decade, claimed but one checkered flag before calling it quits again. Whether the new collaboration will return both outfits to the winner's circle remains to be seen, but we're looking forward to finding out. In the meantime, after releasing a couple of images from the video shoot last week, McLaren has put out this minute-and-a-half video clip showing the MP4-29H running a few laps around Silverstone, marking the official start of what could be the second reign of the McLaren-Honda dynasty. 2015 Honda Fit configurator will let you have it your way

Wed, 11 Jun 2014

Honda has released the online configurator for the all-new, 2015 Fit - a vehicle that was scheduled to launch earlier, but was delayed until this month. As is the case with the rest of the Japanese manufacturer's builders, there's not a lot to this one - pick a trim, transmission (where applicable) and a color, and you're all set.
The 2015 Fit will come in three grades, with the base LX offering up both manual and continuously variable transmission, air conditioning, Bluetooth, USB connectivity, a 60/40 split-rear seat and a four-speaker stereo, among lesser items. The LX starts at $15,525, not counting a $790 destination charge. Next up is the $17,435 EX, which adds 16-inch wheels, push-button start and a seven-inch display audio system complete with Pandora and text-message functionality. Like the LX, the EX can be had with either a manual or CVT, with the two-pedal setup commanding an $800 premium, regardless of trim.
The top-of-the-line EX-L, however, cannot be had with a manual. Getting the king of the Fit line will lock you into the CVT, although it adds an assortment of cow-based products, in the form of heated leather seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Heated wing mirrors are also included in the $19,800 starting price. Navigation is an optional goodie, which tacks $1,000 onto the price and is only available on the EX-L. HD Radio and satellite radio are also included on the EX-L.
