Honda Civic coupe concept gets Type R render
Wed, Apr 15 2015In presenting the Civic coupe concept at the New York Auto Show earlier this month, Honda confirmed that the Type R will eventually be coming to North America. Honda just didn't say when, and in what form. But given the announcement's coincidence with the coupe concept's unveiling, it stands to reason the Type R could look less like the current hatchback and more like the two-door that was unveiled. And if it is, it'd probably look something like this. At least, we hope. Created by Wild-Speed.com and posted on the enthusiast forums at CivicX.com, these renderings envision what a Type R version of the Civic concept would look like – with two doors and all the go-fast bits. It may not be bright green anymore, but it sure looks mean – from the aggressive aero kit to the performance rolling stock. It's even got quad exhaust tips like the Euro-market hot hatch, but mounted in the center like the concept's. NHTSA Probes Nearly 400,000 Infiniti, Honda Vehicles Over Steering Faults
Tue, Nov 11 2014As many as 391,000 vehicles from Honda and Infiniti may eventually need to be recalled as a result of two, separately announced Preliminary Evaluations from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to ascertain the scope of the potential safety hazards. In one of the queries, NHTSA is looking into 24 reports from drivers of the 2013 Honda Accord who say they had total loss of their power steering or experienced a sudden increase in the necessary effort to turn the wheel. In four cases, the problem may be linked to crashes. According to the claims, 13 people reported seeing a warning message during the failure. Turning off the car and restarting it would fix the issue in some cases. If a recall is necessary, it could affect an estimated 374,000 Accords. The second investigation is much smaller in scope. The safety agency is investigating the 2008 Infiniti EX35 after two complaints of the steering wheel shaft separating and the vehicle losing the ability to steer. Both reports say the steering became loose when driving and then completely failed once the vehicle was stopped. A recall for the problem would affect an estimated 17,000 vehicles. Honda Odyssey hybrid under consideration in Japan, but not US
Thu, Feb 13 2014"Over time you can expect to see broader application of our two motor hybrid system" - Sage Marie The idea of a hybrid minivan is not new, at least in Japan. Toyota sells the Estima - the world's first hybrid minivan, it has been available since 2001 - and the Aphard hybrids there. The US is not immune to the dream - in 2011, Chrysler said it was going to make a hybrid minivan in 2013 (didn't happen) - but there has never been a gas-electric minivan sold from a major automaker in the US. And, despite new rumors of a Honda Odyssey hybrid for Japan, the chances that the US will get one in the near future remain roughly at zero. A new report says Honda is considering a hybrid version of the fifth-generation Odyssey in Japan, and such a gas-electric powertrain could reduce fuel use by up to 50 percent. Honda powertrain assistant large project leader Takashi Shinchi told CarAdvice that the hybrid (not a plug-in version) is "under consideration," given the hybrid minivan competition in Japan. Such consideration is not happening in the US, at least not in any serious way. Sage Marie, senior manager of public relations for Honda North America, told AutoblogGreen, "The only thing the Japanese Odyssey and the US Odyssey have in common is the name. There are no current plans for a US Odyssey hybrid, but I will tell you that over time you can expect to see broader application of our industry-leading two motor hybrid system." The standard, gas-powered 2014 Odyssey gets 22 miles per gallon, combined (19 city and 28 highway).
