Up for sale is my 2000 Honda Insight. I have driven this car since 2004, and have put over 200k miles on the car since then. The odometer says 296xxx miles, but the car actually has somewhat more (50-60k) than that because I replaced the instrument cluster way back in 2005 or so. Nevertheless, the car currently runs and drives well enough to pass PA's rather stringent multipoint inspection just a few weeks ago, and the inspection is good until 10/14. As you can see in the pics, there is some cosmetic damage/scratches on various surfaces, nothing unusual for a car of this age. What you can't see are a few common issues with the Insight: the transmission grinds when downshifting into 2nd or first at anything above 18 or so mph for 2nd, 4 or so mph for first. In addition, I am not sure of the IMA battery condition - I am currently on battery #4, which I replaced a few months ago with a donor from a salvage yard. That battery had about 60k miles on it, but the IMA light came on recently and then went away by itself. I have driven a couple hundred miles since and have not seen the light come back, but I'm not sure of this battery's life expectancy.
The car was apparently in an accident before I purchased it in 04; some kind of collision with an animal I believe in the front. Under my use you can see the rear bumper slightly misaligned because of a low speed impact with a basketball hoop post, but that's it for accidents. The interior shows wear in terms of plastic scratches and some staining on the carpet, but the seats have no holes, and I the car has never been smoked in. As you can imagine I have done regular maintenance to the car to keep it going this long, always doing oil changes with Mobil 1 0w20 when the maintenance light appears. The car also has a new 12v battery, new front brakes, and an aftermarket stereo with 4 speakers. A/c has worked fine for the car's entire life. Power windows work fine; passenger power door lock works sporadically. Lifetime fuel economy is 51.9 mpg. The tires were good enough to pass inspection, but are down to probably 30% or so of their tread. I am selling because I want a bigger car to handle my long commute; in the meantime I continue to drive this car about 150 miles a day, so the mileage will be higher accordingly when you come to see the car. Title is clear and lien-free. I am selling this car as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Deposit of $100 due upon purchase; balance due in cash within 7 days of purchase. Please contact me with questions. |

Bonkers Honda Vezel headlines Mugen's lineup at Tokyo Auto Salon
Tue, 14 Jan 2014Japanese automakers and their tuning divisions have descended upon the Makuhari Messe in Chiba City for the 2014 Tokyo Auto Salon. And for Honda, it's all about Mugen.
Honda's Japanese Domestic Market tuning division brought a series of modified concepts and racing cars to the salon this year, including the CR-Z hybrid touring car it fields in the Super GT series, the SF13 single-seater from the Super Formula series as well as customized versions of the Fit, Odyssey and N-WGN. But the prize for the most outrageous of them all surely goes to the modified Vezel you see above.
Modeled on Honda's new Fit-based crossover, the Mugen Vezel Concept goes further than the versions we've seen until now. It features a bonkers body kit, dual exhaust, brake upgrade, sport suspension, intricate 20-inch alloy wheels and an upgraded interior. It's not for the faint of heart, but if you're feeling still interested, you can check it out in the gallery above, along with the announcement below and the specs on Mugen's website.
Honda Accord Hybrid falls well short of 47 mpg, says Consumer Reports [w/video]
Thu, 29 May 2014Do not poke Consumer Reports with the hybrid fuel economy stick. That seems to be the lesson illustrated here yet again. The Honda Accord Hybrid is the latest to arouse the ratings bear, returning "just" 40 combined mpg in CR testing. Even so, that makes it "a class leader for fuel economy among midsized sedans," besting even the Civic Hybrid in CR testing, but that's still a lucky roll of the dice short of its EPA rating of 47 mpg. Remember, it was back in December 2012 that CR knocked the Ford Fusion and C-Max hybrid models for the exact same failing: certified with an EPA-rated 47 mpg but delivering "just" 40 mpg.
Beyond that, while the Accord Hybrid earned a lower overall score than the traditional gasoline Accord because of its ride, handling and refinement issues, it gets unqualified applause from the institute for its "very impressive hybrid system."
It will be interesting to see if CR's findings will negatively impact the model's sales, which to this point have been impressive enough that demand is outstripping supply. In the meantime, you can check out CR's brief video review of the Accord Hybrid below, and check out the magazine's press release chiding its mpg rating.
Thieves still love older Hondas and pickups most, says NICB [w/video]
Wed, 20 Aug 2014No one wants to have their car stolen, but a new study by the National Insurance Crime Bureau has some bad news for older Honda owners and pickup drivers. Fortunately, it has better news for drivers overall. The group is reporting that according to preliminary data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, thefts were down 3.2 percent in 2013 (versus 2012) to fewer than 700,000 cars. That's the lowest figure since 1967. That's also less than half of the peak of over 1.66 million thefts in 1991. "The drop in thefts is good news for all of us," says NICB President and CEO Joe Wehrle. "But it still amounts to a vehicle being stolen every 45 seconds and losses of over $4 billion a year."
Honda drivers might not find it such good news with older Accord and Civic models topping this year's theft study. Toyota and Dodge can't really celebrate, either, with two models each on the list, as well. Overall, this year's list was split evenly between foreign and domestic models, which were mostly pickups.
The 10 most likely vehicles to be stolen in 2013 were:
