One-owner, garage-kept, recently detailed, 2005 Honda Element EX AWD in Magnesium Metallic with 134,800 miles. Dealer maintained car with service records available. Great over all condition. Clean Illinois title.

Drivetrain - Runs good, drives great. No smoke on start-up, or any unusual ticks or rattles. Transmission shifts smoothly and effortlessly. The 2.4L K24A4 engine has a timing chain, so there's no timing belt(s) to replace. The serpentine belt looks a little worn, but it does not squeak. Should be good for a year or two. Engine bay is very clean. No fluid leaks. Engine oil change service is due in about 3,000 miles. I'd also recommend a transmission fluid flush as a preventative measure, but the car runs great.

Suspension/Brakes - Rides well. Shocks/dampers/springs in good condition (no leaks). Newer tires with 75% tread and even wear. Recently aligned, tracks straight and true. Good brakes with plenty of pad life left. Rotors are a little warped, but not noticeable under normal conditions.

Interior - Very clean. Nothing is cracked, sticky, or broken. Non-smoker. No foul smells or odors. No cracks on the dashboard, and all plastics are clean and glossy. Upholstery has recently been shampooed and shows no stains or marks. The vinyl seat material is cracked on the lower left seat bottom, but it hasn't torn through. There are a few nicks and scratches on some panels, but everything is otherwise in excellent condition. Floor liner is clean with no rips or tears. The fold-out/removeable seats work like a charm. Like all Honda Elements, the car has a pop-up moonroof in the back. Awesome car for camping.

Electronics - Everything works (as it should). Newer battery. Keyless entry/alarm has good range. 270 watt CD/MP3 disc player with powered sub-woofer and Aux/iPod input sounds great, with no blown speakers. All interior and exterior lights work. No check-engine lights or diagnostic trouble codes. Air conditioning blows cold and strong. Hot, hot heat.

Body/Paint/Glass - Excellent condition. Paint has recently been professionally clayed, sealed, glazed and waxed and shows deep gloss and shine. Like looking into a mirror. Plastic panels are deep black and show no fading. All glass is original with privacy tint in the back. Windshield does have a few nicks and a small crack in the lower driver's side corner, but it's been that way for about two years now. It hasn't grown since then. The crack is out of sight, but I thought I'd mention it. There's a few dings on the doors, but you'd be hard pressed to find and/or notice them. Wheels are in great condition, no brake dust stains or curb rash. We had one center cap stolen from the car a year ago (these normally don't come off), but you can buy a set of four off Amazon for $20 shipped.

Miscellaneous - All OEM literature (even the sales brochure!) is present and accounted for. Window stickers, booklets, manuals, quick-reference guides, etc. (check out the photo gallery below). Carfax is clean and available (send me a message and I'll send it to you for FREE). Service history is available. Have wheel locks and the wheel lock key.

Asking $8,250 or best offer. Price is already below book value, but I'm open to other offers.

Test drives welcome! I invite you to view the car personally, or send an inspector. You won't be disappointed.

Cash, or certified/cashier's check only. Sold as-is. No warranties expressed or implied.

Contact me through the provided eBay e-mail. I usually respond within the hour. Showings by appointment only. I will be available throughout the week.

Thanks for looking!

Watch this LSR Honda Insight crash at 190 mph in the desert

Tue, 19 Nov 2013

Like any form of motorsports, attempts at breaking land speed records are inherently dangerous. To wit: During a recent speed competition at El Mirage dry lake beds in southern California, racer Brian Gillespie and his first-gen Honda Insight crashed at nearly 190 miles per hour, and it was all caught on video.
According to the Southern California Timing Association website, which hosts the event, the weather was good and there was no wind on November 10, so it isn't clear what may have caused the crash. Despite the car being destroyed (including the entire front end being sheared off), Gillespie suffered only "minor injuries" and is recovering. The SCTA site does state that Gillespie managed to crack the 200-mile-per-hour mark in a previous run with a top speed of 200.9 mph, so congratulations to him on that! Scroll down to watch the horrifying crash.

In 2014, living with a hydrogen car is fun, challenging

Sun, Jan 19 2014

Read his lips: more hydrogen stations, please. That's the crux of the commentary from a Southern California gentleman who's been tooling around in a Honda FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle since 2005. Jon Spallino, the first "retail customer" to lease the Clarity, tells The Wall Street Journal that he enjoys "everything about the car," including the peppy acceleration from the car's electric powertrain. The added bonus, of course, is the fact that the car's emissions are nothing more than water vapor. He pays $600 a month to lease the car, including the hydrogen refueling costs, and says he can go about 230 miles on a full tank. The flipside is the paucity in hydrogen refueling stations, which is understandable considering that they cost an estimated couple million dollars a pop to open. It's no accident that Spallino is one of the early hydrogen drivers, though, since there are eight public refueling stations in Southern California (and one in Northern California), more than any other state, according to US Department of Energy records. The only other public station is in South Carolina, so road trips are tough. Spallino, a resident of Redondo Beach, joins higher-profile folks such as actress Jamie Lee Curtis and former pro hockey player Scott Niedermayer among those who've gotten the opportunity to lease the super-low-volume fuel-cell vehicle. How low? Honda leased out 10 of them last year and just five in 2012. You can read more of Spallino's hydrogen-powered thoughts here.

Honda sending two NSX racers and new EV concept to Pikes Peak

Fri, Mar 11 2016

Honda is always good for a few interesting Pikes Peak entries. In 2015, Acura supplied a 2017 NSX prototype for pace-car duty. This time around, two NSXes will compete alongside a reconfigured version of the company's four-motor electric racecar. Those aren't the 2016 entries above. The one on the right is last year's pace car and the one on the left is a first-gen NSX that did the hillclimb the past few years. The 2016 cars haven't been unveiled yet, but we know that one will be in the Time Attack 2 Production class, which is mostly stock with the addition of items like a roll cage, and the other will be in Time Attack 1. TA 1 allows modifications to the powertrain, additional aero aids, suspension changes, and other tweaks, so expect to see a lot more power and a big wing on the back. The cars will be driven by James and Nick Robinson, brothers who work for Honda R&D in Ohio. Honda will use a version of the four-motor electric powertrain from its 2015 CR-Z Exhibition class entry in a new EV. (We got to drive a non-race tune of this setup in Japan last year.) The 2016 version, which will wear a different body, moves to the Electric - Electric Modified class of last year's frontrunners. We're told this car is aiming for an overall win at the 2016 race; the CR-Z took 11th place overall in 2015. The EV will again be driven by Tetsuya Yamano, a Japanese Super GT driver. Oh, and there will of course be a factory entry or two from Honda's Powersports division. Honda engineer Keith Steidl will ride a 2015 TRX1000 ATV in the Pikes Peak Challenge - Exhibition Powersport class. In the past, Honda has fielded plenty of other neat stuff in the Race to the Clouds. In 2012, it ran an NSX fitted with a twin-turbo V6 from an LMP2 car, and the 2013 race saw the very practical 532-horsepower turbocharged Odyssey minivan join the Exhibition class. The 2016 race marks the Pikes Peak hillclimb's 100th anniversary (but not the 101st running since competition took some breaks back in wartime). We're looking forward to June already.
