1991 Honda CRX Si with 227,285 miles (does not run- engine jumps timing).  2nd owner of car- purchased in NH.  Exterior is Tahitian Green Pearl (1991 only color).  Has extremely rare seats from JDM ZC model- diagonal pastel stripes instead of USDM horizontal red stripes.  Seats are in almost new condition, no rips, burns, tears- side bolsters and seat fabric are in perfect condition.  Originally paid over $600 for them (came from Okinawa) and the seat mounting rails were converted to fit the 89-91 US cars (all cars outside North America used the 1988 US design seat rails for all four model years).  Engine has low-restriction cone filter intake and stainless 4-2-1 header with 60mm B-pipe.  Catalytic converter is 2 years old.  New alternator and radiator, distributor replaced 3 years ago.  Aftermarket cruise control (SCS Frigette) installed and will include copy of original instruction manual.  15” Ultra alloy wheels and Kumho all-season 205/50R15 tires (60+% tread).  Honda CRV CD/AM/FM radio installed (with security code).  Car has A/C but Freon leaked-out, needs leak found & recharged (still R-12). 5 speed manual transmission still shifts smoothly.

Note- seller reserves right to cancel auction before close, as vehicle is also listed for private sale locally.

Car overheated while wife was driving, had cylinder head completely rebuilt with new valve seals and deck resurfaced (new metal headgasket, not composite).  Have spent over $2000 attempting to get running, local Honda dealer could not get the engine to stay in time.
Body needs major work because of typical rust - both rear quarter panels need replacing and car definitely needs a fresh coat of paint.
If you count just the value of the easily removable parts (seats- a design never sold in the USA, new radiator, freshly refurbished head, new alternator, and exhaust system, hard to find Honda center aimrest/storage bin- those items alone are worth at least $1200, if not more.  And the rear privacy panel for the trunk area is in virtually new condition as well- try and find a good one of those!
Shipping- buyer will have to have the car towed, as the engine cranks, fires, but will not run long enough to move the car (sitting on a paved pad in my back yard).
Also have a full set of OEM Honda 13” Gold Crosslace alloy wheels with 175/70-13 all-season tires (80+% thread) plus one extra alloy rim (additional cost to purchase - see my other ebay auctions).  Wheels will fit on the Si (are from my older DX).  This is my last CRX (#5 over 28 years of ownership) and I have a lot of loose CRX components, including a stainless dual-tip muffler that needs a new flange welded-on, otherwise is perfect.  Inquire about a package deal so I can clean house!

Honda recalling small number of Accord, CR-V models

Thu, Mar 12 2015

This latest recall may not be a very big one, but it does strike us as an important one. Issued by Honda, the recall affects the 2014-15 Accord (specifically those equipped with the four-cylinder engine) and the 2015 CR-V, but only 137 of them. Those 137 vehicles, however, will need to have their short blocks replaced. What is a short block, you ask? Nope, it's not a chopped-down version of a big block: it's the engine block itself plus all its internal components, but short of any appendages that make it run. (That'd be a long block.) The problem, according to the manufacturer's statement below, stems from bolts – specifically the connecting rod bolt – that may have been improperly torqued during assembly. There's a system that's supposed to check that, but Honda reports that it "may not have identified improperly torqued bolts in a specific group of engines." Hence the recall. Owners of those few vehicles affected can expect to hear from the manufacturer to arrange bringing their vehicle into their local dealership to have the engine replaced, free of charge. Statement by American Honda Regarding Connecting Rod Bolt Recall: 2014-2015 Honda Accord 4-cylinder; 2015 Honda CR-V Mar 9, 2015 - TORRANCE, Calif. - 137 model-year 2014-15 Accord 4-cylinder and 2015 CR-V vehicles affected in the U.S. - Engine short block will be replaced in affected vehicles, free of charge - No related crashes or injuries have been reported Honda will voluntarily recall 137 model-year 2014-2015 Accord 4-cylinder and 2015 CR-V vehicles in the United States to replace the engine short block, free of charge. During engine assembly, an automated system that verifies engine connecting rod bolt torque may not have identified improperly torqued bolts in a specific group of engines. An improperly torqued connecting rod bolt could come loose, leading to potential engine damage and stalling, which could contribute to a crash. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue, which was discovered through a warranty claim review process. Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to customers will begin in late-March. In addition, owners of these vehicles can determine if their vehicles require repair by going to www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (800) 999-1009, and selecting option 4.

Six 'shut up and take my money' cars

Tue, 11 Nov 2014

Any time you see this iconic moment in pop culture - Shut up and take my money! - posted in response to a new car reveal, rumor for an upcoming model or even lip-service to a vehicle that should exist, you can bet there's some intrinsic good in the idea. Though depending on the person offering up the cash, that good could take the form of extraordinary form, functionality, weight savings, power, handling, etc. You get the idea.
In fact, when I first proposed this list, I reached out to the Autoblog staff to help me brainstorm. Here are some of the ideas they offered up that I ultimately didn't use: Jaguar XE Coupe, Pagani Huayra Roadster, Mercedes-Benz S-Class "parade car" (cabriolet), Morgan 3-Wheeler with Ducati V-twin, Ford Transit Connectamino (pickup), Mercedes CLA63 AMG, Ford Fusion 5.0, BMW i8 Spyder, Lexus RC-F Shooting Brake, Volvo XC90 Polestar. Oh, and things we collectively wanted to stick Dodge's Hellcat in were almost as numerous as models that Fiat Chrysler Automotive currently makes (though none quite so compelling as the Grand Cherokee you see above.)
Ultimately though, while I used a couple of ideas from my colleagues, the list of cars I'd shell out for unquestionably is very personal. Though it isn't complete, what follows is a selection of cars whose very existence would prompt me - or the trust-fund-baby versions of me - to utter without hesitation: "Shut up and take my money."

Five automakers now being investigated by NHTSA for airbag woes

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

It appears that Toyota's renotification to owners of recalled vehicles from last year is just the tip of the iceberg for what could potentially be a much larger industry-wide recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening a preliminary evaluation investigation into roughly 1.1 million vehicles from Chrysler, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Toyota and parts supplier Takata regarding faulty airbag inflators in several models.
NHTSA has received six reports - three directly, two from Takata and one from Toyota - of vehicles with ruptured airbag inflators from 2002-2006, which resulted in three injuries. So far, all six incidents have occurred in high humidity areas like Florida and Puerto Rico. According to Toyota's latest recall announcement, the inflators may have an improper propellant that could cause it to rupture in a crash and the bag to deploy abnormally.
This new investigation follows a previous recall from April 2013 of about 3.4 million vehicles worldwide for the airbag inflators from Takata. As Autoblog reported, Toyota jumpstarted the new situation when it found that the original list of serial numbers for the faulty part was incomplete and discovered more cars in need of replacement. Honda and Nissan told us that they were investigating whether further models would need called in again as well. Mazda told Autoblog: "Regarding the current Takata situation, we're working closely with NHTSA and investigating the situation, but nothing else to report at this time." Chrysler Group responded to us with the statement: "Chrysler Group engineers are conducting the appropriate analysis. The Company will cooperate fully with the National Highway Traffic Administration."
