Beleaguered Takata unlikely to seek automaker assistance

Takata is continuing to deal with the massive airbag recall for millions of vehicles, but even if it doubles production, it could take years the company to build enough replacement parts to properly repair all of the affected models. If the supplier takes a hard enough financial hit whether through fines, lawsuits or just the cost of making the components, then the business might not be able to keep up production. Such a situation could put automakers in the very difficult predicament of deciding whether to provide Takata with financial assistance. Honda for one has little interest in lending further support to the beleaguered supplier, according to The Wall Street Journal. The Japanese automaker recently dropped its annual sales targets to put a larger emphasis on vehicle quality, partially in response to the inflator recall. It also struck a deal with another company for replacement parts and was rumored to abandon Takata for some future business. Honda CEO Takanobu Ito did leave the door barely cracked for possible aid. "Takata itself needs to figure out how to fulfill its duties, but if it makes any request to automakers, then we would think about that," he said, according to The Wall Street Journal. There isn't much likelihood of Takata needing a bailout, though. According to The Wall Street Journal, analysts aren't concerned about the company's short-term fortunes, and the supplier had about $728 million in cash as of last September. 2015 Honda Fit pricing leak shows slight increases across the board

Pricing for the next-generation 2015 Honda Fit has has been circulating online after a poster going by the username ChrisAP1 on tlxforums.com released the figures. None of these prices include the destination charge, which was not specified (the outgoing model's charge was $790).
According to the leak, the new Fit is being offered in three trim levels - LX, EX and EX-L. A base LX model with a six-speed manual starts at $15,525, with the new CVT running $800 more at $16,325. All cars come standard with air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, Bluetooth and LED taillights.
A six-speed EX will run buyers $17,435 or $18,235 for the automatic. Upgrading to this trim nets buyers a power moonroof, a proximity key, paddle shifters on CVT models, Honda's LaneWatch system, fog lights and a 7-inch touchscreen radio. Finally, the EX-L trim is only available with the CVT for $19,800 or with added navigation for $20,800. It adds heated leather seats, a leather shift knob and steering wheel, plus turn signals in the sideview mirrors.

Honda's next-gen fuel cell concept will debut in LA, along with more Civic updates

Honda is bringing a new concept to the this month's Los Angeles Auto Show called the FCEV Concept. "FCEV" stands for something, and no, it's not "funky chicken earns victory" or other such nonsense - it's short for fuel-cell electric vehicle, a market that Honda has played in, most recently, with its hydrogen-powered FCX Clarity.
The FCEV is nothing more than a styling exercise (click above to enlarge the sketch) for an eventual production fuel-cell vehicle set to hit US and Japanese dealers in 2015 (sorry Europe, you're stuck waiting). It's not heading to LA to tell us anything about the wider application of the technology used in the FCX Clarity, so fans of hydrogen power shouldn't get too excited. Still, the news that Honda is still pondering a wider-spread for its fuel-cell technology is quite exciting.
"The Honda FCEV Concept demonstrates the company's vision for the future of personal mobility and our commitment to developing advanced alternative fuel vehicles. As we work toward the introduction of our next-generation fuel-cell vehicle in 2015, our long-term experience with fuel-cell technologies will help us pave a way towards a zero-emissions future," said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president of American Honda.
