28k Original Miles! 47 Mpg Highway! on 2040-cars
Vernon, New York, United States
Thanks for viewing my 1983 Honda Civic 1500 sedan with an automatic transmission and a 1.5L four cylinder engine that is rated at 34 city/47 hwy mpg! It shows an astoundingly low 28,431 original miles! And it drives like it too. This is surely the lowest mileage Honda Civic from 1983 in existence today. And certainly, if anyone owns one with fewer miles and in this incredible condition, please email me with photos and the story how your car came to be so well-preserved. I'd love to hear about it. For that same reason, when I saw this Civic for sale, I knew that if it was as advertised I would have to own it. It was, and I was so blown away by its condition that I drove more than 20 hours over two separate trips to acquire it. It was totally worth it! There is something pretty awesome about cruising around town, running errands, etc. in a car with all the kitch and cool of a classic, but that also runs and drives like a fresh and new car AND gets better gas mileage than nearly all the cookie-cutter cars you pass in your travels. It is a joyously rare combination of the practical and the unique. In fact, just last night I stopped for gas (it was just above empty) and by putting in just under six gallons I was able to bring the fuel level up to 3/4 full. And that translated into something like 4+ hours of highway driving. I was laughing and shaking my head when I pulled back out onto the road. The true beauty of this car -- beyond its incredible condition -- is its original design and intent. It was meant to be simple and economical, but also well-built and a bit of fun to drive. From my experience with it, Honda succeeded on all counts. Consider the fact that if I were to pop the hood and stand on the passenger side of the car looking down at the motor, I could change the air cleaner, check the oil, check the transmission fluid, replace the oil filter, replace the distributor cap, check the plug wires, install new wipers, install new belts and probably a half dozen other things I've missed without ever moving from my spot. And the experience while driving is more of the same. Everything is simple and easy, but very well-designed. All is as it should be, with plenty of space, and nice easy-to-read instruments The stereo is a great AM/FM setup, with the retractable antenna within easy reach that you can actually adjust it while driving! There's also a locking gascap and a decent size trunk that is so pristine that I'm not sure anything has ever been put in it. I was fortunate enough to speak with the owner of the repair shop that serviced the Civic from 2008-2012, who also happened to know the family that owned it and the complete history of the car. According to him, this Honda was purchased by an elderly lady in 1983 and was used sparingly by her and her husband for the rest of their lives. It was then left to her daughter and was stored with care and used occasionally until it was finally traded in on a new car in 2012, having been owned by the same family for 31 years. When I asked if he felt the mileage to be accurate, his simple response was, "I know it is." The car is beautiful enough to be a very nice, unusual addition to a car collection, but it could also be driven daily or utilized as a third car, a sort of uber-economical runabout for zipping around town in something a little different. And with an automatic transmission, its a breeze to drive. It also comes with the original owner's manual and a carfax report. I look forward to speaking to anyone who has questions or comments on this very unique Honda and I've also posted more the 200 photos to flickr to show it off a bit more... https://www.flickr.com/photos/97286492@N06/sets/72157645418185581/

Refreshed Honda Civic's first commercial is a minor mea culpa
Thu, 27 Dec 2012Honda has officially rolled out the first ad for the 2013 Civic. The one-minute spot focuses on a number of clever inventions that improve on old themes, from rocket-powered parachutes to hover bikes and smart window shades, before shifting to the redesigned compact. Set to Santigold's "Disparate Youth," the ad culminates with the phrase, "Things can always be better." This is likely as close as we'll come to hearing Honda say, "we could have done better."
Unveiled at the 2012 LA Auto Show, the 2013 Civic features revised front and rear fascias, nicer cabin materials and an updated suspension just one year after the ninth-generation model debuted. That car received scaling reviews from critics, most notably Consumer Reports, who felt the 2012 Civic was a step backwards for a company known for producing high-quality, economical vehicles. You can check out the full ad for the 2013 Civic below before it debuts during the Rose Bowl.
Honda planning a second Vezel for developing markets
Tue, 31 Dec 2013The new Honda Vezel was designed as a global product. Unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in November, the compact crossover is already going on sale in Japan, will soon reach Europe and will eventually hit the North American market as well - albeit with a different name and engine lineup. But it won't be sold everywhere.
According to Autocar India, the Vezel was originally earmarked to reach the emerging market on the subcontinent, but the declining value of the rupee has apparently forced Honda to rethink its strategy. Instead, the Japanese automaker is now expected to develop a second compact crossover - one more cost-effective to produce locally - for sale in India and other, nearby developing markets.
The new model would be based on the Brio, a hatchback that's smaller than the Fit (on which the Vezel is based) and built in India, Thailand and Indonesia. Honda has already enlarged the Brio's platform to create the Amaze sedan and Mobilio minivan. Building a crossover on the same platform would reportedly require some re-engineering - particularly around the wheel wells - but would apparently still be more cost-effective than importing the Vezel.
Honda rolls out six-seat Jade Hybrid wagon in Japan
Wed, Jan 14 2015Honda has tried its hand at making hybrids of all shapes and sizes – whether dedicated or adapted to partial electric propulsion. There was the original two-seat Insight, the five-passenger Insight that followed, the 2+2 CR-Z hatchback and the hybrid version of the Vezel crossover – to say nothing of hybrid versions of the Civic and Accord. And now there's one more... in Japan, anyway. That would be the Jade, a wagon developed for the Chinese market but which Honda is now bringing home for the JDM, with a few key differences. For starters, while the Civic-based, low-slung wagon/minivan is produced under joint venture with Dongfeng principally in five-seat configuration, the Japanese version is being offered with three rows of two seats each for a total of (you guessed it) six chairs. The six-seat configuration, also offered on the conventional Chinese-market model, does away with the middle seat in the middle row in favor of more elbow room. The JDM Jade is also ditching the conventional 1.8-liter inline four in favor of the 1.5-liter hybrid and seven-speed DCT from the Vezel and Fit hybrids. Now if we could just get it Stateside with the Civic Type R engine, we could have a real sleek power wagon on our hands that would make us forget all about the Seat Leon ST Cupra unveiled just last week and let us play British touring car champion on our daily commute.
