This is a great car, I've had it since it had 97k miles and I am the third owner. I’ve always been a Honda fan, got the bug and did some mild modifications to her. The oil was always changed between 3K and 3.5K miles with 5W-30 synthetic and a good oil filter since I purchased the car.
She’s been really good to me and never left me stranded. The car is quick, but not fast; she handles great and is a blast to drive on the street. The engine still runs very clean and has good compression. The compression ratio is high and the car runs on PREMIUM right now and gets mid 30’s in MPG on the highway. I can retard the cam and Ignition timing and raise the fuel pressure to run on regular if needed.

Up until February of this year, the body was in great shape for its age; I bought a new car and was using the Civic as my main transportation to and from work. The new car went in the garage and the Civic was parked on the street. The car was hit (side swiped) and bumped several times and I don’t have the time to do the work (and don’t want to throw money away….as she’ll probably get hit again) and need to sell. All of the major damage, like the fender and door are pictured. The car now lives out of harms way, so no more body damage will occur. I still drive her about once a week when I’m in the area. The car would make a great daily beater, but also a great project as the body is straight and it has a host of newer suspension components.

The exhaust is aggressive and deep; it is tame at light to half throttle, but gets loud when you get on it.

Engine, Transmission & Exhaust modifications:

Mini-me (D16Y8 VTEC head on D16Y7 block) with a rebuilt cylinder head and NEW OEM Head gasket and head bolts at 107,000 miles

AEM air filter with velocity stack and 3" intake pipe into an S2000 throttle body and Blox intake manifold 240cc EX injectors and a Blox fuel pressure regulator on an Edelbrock fuel rail

Airmass header to a 2.25" Vibrant SS core Catalytic converter out to a 2.36" SS Top Fuel 0-1000 cat-back

AEM cam gear advanced 2 degrees

Civic VX oil cooler with a Blox sandwich adapter for the oil gauges

97 EX OBD2a ECU and engine wire harness and an OBD1 air temp sensor with adapter harness

Civic EX sedan/coupe transmission (shorter gears) with a B&M Edge shifter

Suspension:

All bushings, ball joints, springs, shocks, struts, hats, sway bar links, wheel bearings, tie rods, pads, shoes, rotors, and drums replaced around 150,000 miles; except for performance parts, all OEM Honda parts

Koni SRT.T shocks and struts in H&R OE Sport springs (about .75" drop)

19mm Del-Sol rear sway bar with custom SS end link adapters

Hardrace rear upper arms (rear camber adjusters)

PasswordJDM rear lower tie bar, Carbing front lower tie bar, and Skunk2 front upper tie bar

Interior and electronics:

Integra seats

S2000 steering wheel with airbag and cruise control switch

Custom CRV gauges and amber dash lights

Shift-I shift light integrated into cluster

AEM air-fuel ratio, Prosport oil and fuel pressure, and SPA 2 in 1 oil and water temperature gauges

Field's SFC-VTEC Controller (not currently wired in)

Clarion USB/AUX/CD/radio head unit

Exterior:

Gunmetal replacement headlights

ESUSE (glass) OEM fog lights

OEM mud guards

Coupe grille

The good:

The alternator was replaced with a genuine Denso unit (made in Japan, rebuilt in USA) around 180K miles

The steering rack was replaced with a rebuilt unit around 170K miles

The timing belt, water pump, front main seal and cam seal replaced at 209,189 miles

The bad:

The car needs front brake pads and rotors, a flush, and new brake lines. It currently has braided stainless lines and the silicon coating is cracked; the brakes work just fine now but need to be done soon

The oil pan leaks a little, the engine looses about 4-6oz every month, it drips very slowly, you can not watch it drip, but the oil pan is coated in oil

The headliner is sagging and needs to be reupholstered

The trunk leaks a little when it rains; I replaced the outer tail light seals (on the quarter panels) which did not solve the problem; I have the inner taillight seals, but have not installed them

I am a smoker, there are some burn holes and the carpet has always had a bad coffee stain in the middle of the rear seat since I bought it

It has normal old Honda rust and the recent body damage as evidenced in the pictures

The cruise control hasn’t worked for about a year and a half; I think it’s the actuator

The drivers’ side rear window motor has burnt out; I have the replacement but haven’t put it in

A couple of lights on the dash are out

I have a huge file of parts receipts and service records. I can drop the car off locally in North Jersey (let me know where), but otherwise transportation is up to you. The car is currently insured, inspected and registered, so test driving is possible. Mileage will go up slightly, as I am still driving it occasionally.

McLaren and Honda rekindle a winning combination

Fri, Nov 28 2014

With the 2014 Formula One World Championship now drawn to a close, all eyes are fixed on next season. And for both McLaren and Honda, that means the dawn of a new era – or hopefully, the return to one bygone. After twenty years running Mercedes engines, McLaren is switching back to Honda next season, rekindling the most successful partnership the once-dominant team has ever had. Immediately after swapping to Honda power in 1988 – and with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost behind the wheel – McLaren entered its winningest era, racking up four consecutive world championships. In the two decades it's spent under Mercedes power since, it won three drivers' titles and one constructors', leaving the relatively brief Honda era as its most successful. It was also the most successful for Honda, which had enjoyed success with Williams and some with Lotus, but far more with McLaren – the likes of which it was never able to recreate. The Japanese automaker that was the first to break into the Euro-centric series left grand prix racing when it left McLaren, and despite returning to fund its own team for the better part of a decade, claimed but one checkered flag before calling it quits again. Whether the new collaboration will return both outfits to the winner's circle remains to be seen, but we're looking forward to finding out. In the meantime, after releasing a couple of images from the video shoot last week, McLaren has put out this minute-and-a-half video clip showing the MP4-29H running a few laps around Silverstone, marking the official start of what could be the second reign of the McLaren-Honda dynasty. Honda Walking Assist Device begins US testing at Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago

Sun, 17 Nov 2013

For years, we've been wondering what implications Honda's Asimo robot could have in the real world, and now we're starting to get a sense of that. Honda announced that it will begin its first US clinical studies of the Walking Assist Device at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago in an effort to provided improved mobility for people who have suffered a stroke. While the automotive tie-in here is pretty weak, this is the first time we've heard about this device since it was unveiled back in 2008.
Weighing in at six pounds, Honda's device is fitted to the waist and legs of patients to make it easier to walk, and the 22.2-volt lithium-ion battery provides enough electricity for more than an hour of operation. According to Honda's press release, which is posted below, up to 80 percent of the almost 800,000 stroke victims each year (in the US alone) are afflicted with limited mobility, so a medical aid like this could have a big impact in the real world.

2023 CES Editors' Picks

Mon, Jan 9 2023

Over the past few years, it has become more and more clear that the Consumer Electronics Show is a car show. And this year that reality is more clear than ever. Not only did established automakers show off seriously important vehicles, but a traditional electronics company brought a car that gives an idea of its intents (with the help of establishment car company). With so many car reveals, we had to rank our favorites. Our picks for this show are entirely electric. Or at least, they are on paper, since many are concepts. Considering the name of the show, it would be a little strange if they weren't. In fact, not only are many of our favorites concepts, they all are save for one. See how they shook out below. VW ID7 camo View 28 Photos 5. Volkswagen ID.7 "The ID.7 definitely got lost in the crowd at CES. That it was camouflaged definitely didn't help, even if that camo was electroluminescent (BMW trumped it big time with its color-changing Dee). Nevertheless, this is a close-to-production hatchback-ed sedan, not unlike today's Arteon, with an extra-long wheelbase courtesy its EV architecture. It should be a solid answer to the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6, and even if people obviously prefer SUVs now, VW says there is still a market for sedans. I know I'd probably prefer one." –Senior Editor, West Coast and Reviews, James Riswick Peugeot Inception concept View 12 Photos 4. Peugeot Inception "It's not often that show debuts surprise us. While Peugeot teased the Inception ahead of CES, its unveiling seemed almost incidental. But just look at this thing; it's like an electric French Mustang with someplace important to be. I don't buy into the stupid 'It's not a wheel!' thing that Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson described as providing a video-game-like drive experience, but that bit of silliness aside, this is a really promising design study. Give us more of these and fewer tall boxes, please." –Associate Editor Byron Hurd Afeela prototype from Sony Honda Mobility View 11 Photos 3. Afeela by Sony Honda “Ever since Sony showed off an impressively put-together concept car at CES a few years ago, IÂ’ve been anticipating the companyÂ’s next move. Apparently, that next move is “Afeela.” No, I donÂ’t love the name. The specs from SonyÂ’s original concept car give me hope that this prototype sportback (itÂ’s a hatchback!) will be fun to drive, though.
