Honda gives itself room to delay FCV hydrogen car until June 2017

In a new press release issued to discuss vehicles on display at the Geneva Motor Show, Honda said something a bit curious about its upcoming hydrogen car. The release reads: "The FCV Concept previews an all-new fuel cell road car that is scheduled to go on sale in Japan in the first half of 2016, and subsequently in the USA and Europe within the following 12 months." The last official word was that Honda said the car would arrive in Japan in March 2016, with US and European roll-out some time after that. The new announcement gives the company some wiggle room to adjust that timeline, since 12 months after the first half of 2016 could, theoretically, be at late as June 30, 2017. So, we asked Honda North America's senior environment and safety specialist Angie Nucci if this means that the FCV will be delayed at all. She said she doesn't have additional details for the next-gen FCV availability, "other than March 2016 in Japan and then the US and Europe after. It's the same timing that we discussed in LA." In other words, we might be reading too much into this. But it's worth noting in case the timeline does slip (again). Here in the land of Harleys and highways that stretch to infinity, Americans don't care much for sensible motorcycles. Unlike the majority of global bike buyers, North Americans tend to choose escape over utility, performance over practicality - that's simply how it's been done in the land of the free, at least until a funny thing happened on the way to the global recession.
As bank balances thinned and fuel prices crept skyward, sales of puffed up sportbikes and cartoonishly endowed cruisers plummeted. Americans rediscovered that motorcycles could be used for tasks like workaday commutes and trips to the grocery store, not just for riding into a Marlboro Man-approved sunset, fringe in tow. As consumers matured, manufacturers slowly responded with bikes better suited for purposeful priorities.

NACTOY announces top nine finalists for Car, Truck and Utility of the Year

Finalists for the 2024 North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) Awards were announced at this year’s L.A. Auto Show. This whittles the field down to nine vehicles in total, with the winners scheduled to be announced on January 4, 2024. The finalists in their respective categories: Car category: Honda Accord, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Toyota Prius Truck category: Chevrolet Colorado, Chevrolet Silverado EV, Ford Super Duty Utility category: Genesis Electrified GV70, Kia EV9, Volvo EX30 These nine cars were chosen from a list of 25, which was previously narrowed down from a list of 52 eligible vehicles. Notable misses include the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, Toyota GR Corolla, GMC Canyon, Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Blazer EV, Chevrolet Equinox EV, Mazda CX-90 and Toyota Grand Highlander, among others.
