I'm selling my 1986 Honda Accord LX-i. Let's get the bad details out up front. It is non-running. It overheated a couple of weeks ago and the head warped. The mechanic told me it needs a valve job and the head resurfaced. I was quoted $1200. I can't afford it, so I'm selling it. You can either buy it to fix it yourself, or for parts. It is in excellent condition. A VERY clean car. 5 spd. 170K. Both interior and exterior are at least an 8/10. No cracks, no tears, no damage aside from a few small chips here and there (normal wear and tear for a car this age). Definitely doesn't look like it's been around for almost 30 years. Paint is fading a bit on hood, but the rest of the body looks awesome. I am not the original owner, but it was definitely taken very well car of before me. The engine bay is super clean. Anyway...

It drove really well up until it overheated. Very comfortable, very quick acceleration and still got great MPG.

Other things to note. There is a slow steering fluid leak. I mean slow. I top it off every few months. I put in a remanned pump which is working fine, so it must be the rack. Slow brake fluid leak, too...same deal (top if off every few months and it doesn't bother me). Also, there's a short or something because only the speedo works at the moment in the gauge cluster, not the other gauges. That's the only electrical issue, though. Oh, and the switch on the driver's side that controls the passenger window is getting week. The passenger window works and can be put down from the passenger side, but the driver side switch has seen better days. It has A/C, but does not work and is on the old system.  May need a new compressor, or you may choose to upgrade to modern system.

In the past year it has gotten new or remanufactured:
-Oil pan gasket
-Rear main seal
-Clutch
-Alternator
-Power steering pump
-Passenger front axle (had to replace CV boot so just replaced whole thing
-A bunch of hoses, clamps, belts, and stuff that showed wear

What else? Stock stereo with 7-band equalizer. Pretty retro looking. The LEDs light up to the amplitude of the music. Very 80s. No speakers, though. They were old and the paper cones totally torn, so I took them out and I'm keeping the replacement set I bought.

Tires have a lot of tread left.

Clean title. Pink slip in hand. Current CA registration good to 2/14.

Once more time to be clear. NON-RUNNING. AS-IS. No warranty. For parts or restoration.

Please contact me with any questions or if you want to request specific pictures.

Thanks.

Honda's U.S. Plants Build Ten Million Accords, 20 Million Total Vehicles

Fri, Mar 21 2014

The ten millionth American-built Honda Accord rolled off the assembly line Friday at the Japanese automaker's plant in Marysville, Ohio, according to Autoblog. Honda is celebrating not only the Accord, which is the seventh best selling nameplate of all time, but also an accumulative 20 million Hondas built in the U.S. since the company first started manufacturing at Marysville in November 1982. Honda was the first Japanese automaker to gamble on American manufacturing. Now, 94 percent of all Hondas sold in the U.S are American-built. They are made in facilities in Ohio, Alabama and Indiana. Honda's U.S. plants manufactured 1.3 million vehicles last year - a company record. Honda currently builds the best-selling Civic and Accord, as well as the Crosstour, CR-V, Pilot, Odyssey and Ridgeline in the U.S. Acura, Honda's luxury brand, also builds cars at the American plants, including the ILX, TL, RDX and MDX. Honda may recall up to 1M vehicles for airbag issue, following Toyota's lead

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

It seems Toyota won't be the only one recalling the faulty Takata airbag inflators for long. Honda insiders in Japan claim that the company is getting close to announcing its own worldwide campaign that would begin before the end of June.
Unnamed sources close to Honda in Japan tell Automotive News that the company is pursuing an internal investigation into possibly affected models and is working with Takata to gather more information. They claim that it could involve even more than the 1.14 million cars worldwide that the automaker covered under the first recall for the problem in April 2013, including 561,000 vehicles in the US.
Toyota jumpstarted this process last week when it recalled over 2 million cars worldwide, including 844,277 in the US. Soon after, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began a preliminary evaluation into the issue following six reported incidents, and started assembling data about potentially affected models from Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Chrysler. NHTSA also began investigating Takata itself.

Autoblog's Editors' Picks: Our complete list of the best new vehicles

Mon, May 13 2024

It's not easy to earn an “EditorsÂ’ Picks” at Autoblog as part of the rating and review process that every new vehicle goes through. Our editors have been at it a long time, which means weÂ’ve driven and reviewed virtually every new car you can go buy on the dealer lot. There are disagreements, of course, and all vehicles have their strengths and weaknesses, but this list features what we think are the best new vehicles chosen by Autoblog editors. We started this formal review process back in 2018, so there's quite of few of them now. So what does it mean to be an EditorsÂ’ Pick? In short, it means itÂ’s a car that we can highly recommend purchasing. There may be one, multiple, or even zero vehicles in any given segment that we give the green light to. What really matters is that itÂ’s a vehicle that weÂ’d tell a friend or family member to go buy if theyÂ’re considering it, because itÂ’s a very good car. The best way to use this list is is with the navigation links below. Click on a segment, and you'll quickly arrive at the top rated pickup truck or SUV, for example. Use the back button to return to these links and search in another segment, like sedans. If youÂ’ve been keeping up with our monthly series of the latest vehicles to earn EditorsÂ’ Pick status, youÂ’re likely going to be familiar with this list already. If not, welcome to the complete list that weÂ’ll be keeping updated as vehicles enter (and others perhaps exit) the good graces of our editorial team. We rate a new car — giving it a numerical score out of 10 — every time thereÂ’s a significant refresh or if it happens to be an all-new model. Any given vehicle may be impressive on a first drive, but we wait until itÂ’s in the hands of our editors to put it through the same type of testing as every other vehicle that rolls through our test fleet before giving it the EditorsÂ’ Pick badge. This ensures consistency and allows more voices to be heard on each individual model. And just so you donÂ’t think weÂ’ve skipped trims or variants of a model, we hand out the EditorsÂ’ Pick based on the overarching model to keep things consistent. So, when you read that the 3 Series is an EditorsÂ’ Pick, yes, that includes the 330i to the M3 and all the variants in between. If thereÂ’s a particular version of that car we vehemently disagree with, we make sure to call that out.
