Honda to dub Fit-based as HR-V for North America
Sun, 06 Apr 2014You may remember it as the Urban SUV (pictured above) from when it debuted in concept form at the Detroit Auto Show last year, or know it as the Vezel as the production version was unveiled for the Japanese Domestic Market at the 2014 Tokyo Motor Show. But when Honda starts exporting its new Fit-based crossover - or better yet, building it in Mexico for North American consumption - it will be called the HR-V.
This news comes courtesy of Honda enthusiast forum Temple of VTEC. When contacted by Autoblog, Honda spokesmen declined to comment on the veracity of the report, saying only that it would "announce the name in the near future," but the handle fits with what we know about Honda's history with compact crossovers. The previous HR-V (which was not available in the States) was a high-riding, squared-off crossover built between 1999 and 2006 and based on the Fit's predecessor, the Honda Logo.
While the HR-V moniker might not have name recognition in North America, it would in Europe where Honda also hopes its new crossover will find eager customers. It will also fit in nicely below the CR-V that will continue on as the HR-V's larger stablemate.
McLaren-Honda drops the bling for stealth F1 livery
Wed, May 6 2015Watch a Formula One grand prix and you can instantly tell which are the McLarens, visible as they are from a mile away with their reflective chrome livery. But that's all about to change as the British team has dropped the chrome in favor of the more subdued livery you see here. Unveiled in time for this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, the new McLaren livery replaces the bling with a gray so dark that it borders on black. The red accents remain, albeit in a revised pattern. The new livery promises to be less reflective at sunset and flood-lit night races especially, while providing more of a visual break from the Mercedes era now that the team is powered once again by Honda. McLaren first adopted the silver and black livery in 1997 after Marlboro (with its white and red livery) left for Ferrari and the West tobacco brand was brought in instead. The team parted company with West after the ban on tobacco advertising in sports was instituted in Europe in 2005, inserted some red into the livery and replaced the flat silver with chrome. This weekend's race will mark the first time in a decade, then, that McLaren will be racing without the chrome. Honda S660 Kei car makes you want to jump in and drive

In fact, after seeing the freshly debuted production model, it's fair to say the kei roadster has already leapt to the very tip-top of our forbidden fruit list. Considering our newfound love for the tiny two-seater, you, dear reader, are going to have to put up with a lot of S660 content in the coming weeks. First up, we have what's called nori-setsu, or "riding instructions." Honda recruited a pair of gymnasts, who use their talents to slide, creatively, into a mockup of the S660. While the acrobats make it look easy, we imagine the amount of space in the S660 makes slotting into the driver's seat off a pommel horse is somewhat dangerous, hence the padding and mocked-up roadster. Fortunately, when an actual S660 is brought out to play, the gymnast finds a more conventional means of getting behind the wheel. Check out the video.
