Up for bids is a 1995 Honda Odyssey van.

We bought this van used in 1998 with about 35,000 miles on it.  Always garage kept, all services performed as scheduled, timing belt at 240,000 miles, oil changed every 3,000 miles (up untill I started using synthetic oil about a year ago...then every 5,000 miles), ATF changed every 10,000 miles.  I work at a Honda dealership in the parts department, so only Honda parts have been installed since I have owned this van.  What I couldn't do myself mechanically, one of our technicians did the work.

Accessories include am-fm-cassette deck with single cd player, roof rack with cross bars, Honda carpet floor mats, splash guards, middle seat under-seat storage drawers for the kids' toys and small items, center console storeage bin, and rear bumper protector.

AC blows ice cold, everything on this van works.  Recent repairs include new front upper control arms, front struts, rear shocks, front brake pads, and a new head gasket. Still gets well over 22 MPG around town, almost 30 MPG on the highway.  Engine still runs great, transmission shifts like it should, and all engine & transmission mounts are tight.

The bad news...the SRS light came on about the time I decided to sell this van when we bought our newer Odyssey (I wonder if she knew something was up).  The SRS unit needs to be replaced (you can find one used for about $50.00 - $100.00).  The ABS light sometimes comes on, stays on for a while, then goes off.  This has been occuring since about 1999 and I just never got around to fixing it.  I don't know if it's the accumulator, modulator, or one of the wheel sensors.  A deer ran into me back in 1999? at the left front of the van (see pics).  The lights weren't damaged, so I never bothered to get the work done.  The backlight for the radio display and AC control is out, but still displays in daylight.  These are minor annoyances that don't affect the way the van performs.

That's about it.  This van has taken us on vacation every year since we bought it, and has proven to be super reliable (like all the 95-98 Odysseys).  She has survived 3 kids and has held up great!  My wife wanted a newer van, so this one has to go.  Check out the KBB website for values on this van.  I am starting the bidding about where I expect it will sell for, considering the SRS and ABS lights on and the very minor body damge.  I live in the Grayson area of GA and work in Buford, GA.  You can call me to arrange a test drive at (404) 944-0385.  Leave a message if I don't answer.

Honda opening first new motherland plant in almost 50 years

Mon, 04 Mar 2013

Despite opening dozens of overseas plants in the past several decades in locations all over the globe, Honda Motor Co. has not expanded its car manufacturing capabilities in its home market of Japan since opening a facility in Sayama back in 1964.
But all of that is set to change this July when Honda opens the doors to a new assembly plant in Yorii, about two hours north of Tokyo. According to Bloomberg, the new facility has a projected annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles. The plant is part of the automaker's reorganization efforts, plans that include scaling back its older Sayama plant and bringing Yorii online with more efficient and innovative technology. There are additional benefits, too, as the Yorii plant is expected to create 3,800 jobs, both on-site and at its suppliers, and boost the local economy as other businesses ramp up to accommodate the influx of new workers.
While the automaker has not released specifics about which models will be produced at Yorii, Honda is expected to consolidate production of models including the Fit, a best-seller in its domestic market.

Carmakers, NHTSA to unveil auto-emergency braking agreement tomorrow

Wed, Mar 16 2016

Happy St. Patrick's Day Eve. Tomorrow, there will be green beer, corned beef and cabbage, and automatic emergency braking for all. Weird combo, we know. But on St. Patty's we can expect an official announcement from a pact of automakers making auto-braking systems standard equipment by 2022. That's per a report from Reuters, which cites three sources familiar with the plans. Originally announced in September 2015 by 10 automakers and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the agreement is expected to be even larger when the details are unveiled tomorrow. According to Reuters, the manufacturers of 99 percent of the US domestic market's vehicles will be represented by the new agreement. It's believed that standard AEB systems could prevent thousands of accidents across the country. Expect more on the official announcement when it's made. Related Video:

Recharge Wrap-up: Pikes Peak Honda CR-Z, Tesla's liquid-cooled cable

Thu, Jun 18 2015

Honda will race a CR-Z hybrid in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The car will use Electric SH-AWD, which probably means it will be using electric motors to power the rear wheels. Whether the Pikes Peak CR-Z uses the same powertrain as the upcoming Acura NSX or the 3.5-liter V6 with three-motor hybrid system used in the Acura RLX Sport Hybrid is still unclear. The car will also use Acura's Precision All-Wheel Steering (P-AWS) system. The CR-Z will be piloted by Tetsuya Yamano. Read more at Hybrid Cars, or, if you read Japanese, at Response. Tesla has introduced a thinner, liquid-cooled Supercharger cable. While the convenience of not having to "wrestle a good-sized snake into the car," as Elon Musk calls it in a shareholder speech, is wonderful, it could also allow for faster charging in the future. The liquid-cooled charging cable "also has the potential for increased power of the Supercharger long-term," says Musk. A cable able to withstand larger loads could mean shorter stops when it's time for a charge. Tesla has installed the first next-generation cable at the Mountain View Supercharger. In addition to the 71-horsepower Smart Fortwo, the DCT will now be available in the 90-horsepower Fortwo and the 71-horsepower Forfour. In the Fortwo, the Twinamic DCT adds ˆ1,275 (about $1,437) to the price over the manual transmission, and is an extra ˆ1,425 (about $1,606) in the Forfour. The option of steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters as part of the Sport package makes driving the efficient microcar even more fun. Deliveries of the newly equipped vehicles begin at the end of July. Read more in the press release below. smart extends twinamic range for fortwo and forfour: Even more models with automatic transmission Stuttgart. Following in the footsteps of the smart fortwo with 52 kW/71 hp, the smart fortwo with 66 kW/90 hp and the smart forfour with 52 kW/71 hp are now also available with fully automatic twinamic dual clutch transmission. This costs an extra 1275 euros compared to the versions with 5-speed manual transmission (forfour: 1425 euros). This means that both model series now offer a choice between no fewer than nine engine/transmission combinations. Delivery of the new models will begin at the end of July 2015.
