VERY nice low mileage "first generation" Insight. I purchased it in November of 2011, and it had around 59000 miles on it. I looked high and low for a low mileage, original Insight, and most had 150,000 and more miles on them. This one was and still is, in almost mint condition. I have done the normal routine maintenance, and I actually have records to prove it. I always keep my cars running in top condition, and I also always keep meticulous records and receipts to document the vehicle maintenance history to a buyer. This car needs nothing.

The battery pack was replaced under warranty at around 34000 miles in June of 2010. For those of you who don't know about these cars, there are after market battery packs available which are less expensive and superior to the factory original, so if in the future you need a new battery pack, it will be available at a reasonable cost. However, the battery light does not come on, and there is no indication that there are any problems with the pack or the charging system.  Since I have purchased the vehicle, I have of course changed oil with proper synthetic oil and  flushed and refilled the radiator,  Although they really didn't need replacing as a preventative measure I had the serpentine belt, air filter, rear wiper blade, upper and lower radiator hoses, front brake pads and rotors replaced. I also had the cabin air filter replaced, which as it turns out, was the first time it was ever replaced. I have receipts to document everything.

I installed a very nice Sony stereo. It has blue tooth, USB, MP3, HD radio and a sub woofer. It is also wired for Sirrius XM, which can be activated anytime by the buyer.. All of the sound components work flawlessness.

The car rides solid, and there are no serious rattles or odd sounds. It comes with original factory Insight floor mats, although they are showing normal wear for being 13 years old. Overall the interior can be described as almost perfect, if not perfect.  Both seats are covered with deluxe, thick, custom real sheepskin seat covers which cost me $300 each (not pictured, but I have the receipt and I can provide pictures).  The skins are thick, comfy and flawless. Some slight stain on the driver side interior door panel from a careless mechanic opening the door with dirty fingers.  Very minor, but I thought I'd mention it. All controls, switches and lights work perfectly. All functions of the digital dash work perfectly. All headlights and tail lights work perfectly.  The exterior paint is not faded and looks almost new. I don't know exactly how much tread is left on the tires, but I suspect a good 20,000 miles maybe a little less?

The "auto stop" feature works as it should, and the car runs great. Original spare tire and jack are included and in perfect condition.  It's fairly hard to find low mileage, well maintained Insights, but this one is very, very nice and original. Depending on how you drive it, it can get more than 70 mpgs. The official EPA estimates are 70mpgs highway and 61 mpgs city.

I have tried to be as transparent as possible regarding the condition of this car, however, it is a 13 year old vehicle, as as such, it is being sold as is with no warranty.  I will be happy to assist in any way I can with shipping, although I would not hesitate to drive this vehicle cross country.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, and I will respond promptly.

Honda launches new Fit in Japan, has big expectations for North America

Thu, 05 Sep 2013

Honda has officially launched the Fit sub-compact in its home market, ahead of its eventual arrival in North America. The third-generation Fit is wildly important for Honda, with the company's president, Takanobu Ito, saying, "This is the most important model."
The third-generation Fit is a ground-up reworking of the car that we've come to know. It will pioneer Honda's new design language, Exciting H Design (seriously) and will also be the very first Fit to be manufactured in North America. Thanks to a Mexican factory that is scheduled to open in the spring of 2014, Honda will be able to produce 200,000 Fits for the North American market in North America, saving the brand a huge amount of cash.
As for that Exciting H Design, it's meant to be sleeker and more modern, according to Automotive News. It's not bad looking, but the overall design is far less important than what's under that hood. The vehicle you see above is a Fit RS, which has quite a resemblance to the rumored Fit Mugen. There's not a lot of detail on this model, but based on looks alone, we certainly hope it'll be coming to the North American market - it'd make a great Fit Sport. A hybrid variant will also come to the US market, and that car is returning impressive numbers on the Japanese cycle: 86 miles per gallon so far, thanks to the combination of an 1.5-liter, Atkinson-cycle, four-cylinder engine and a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission. That's a 35-percent improvement over the current, JDM Fit Hybrid.

Honda Fit loses Recommended rating from Consumer Reports

Thu, 23 Jan 2014

Thanks to its poor performance in the most recent round of Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash testing, where it received the lowest overall score in the small-overlap test, Consumer Reports has bumped the Honda Fit from its "Recommended" list. When a car gets bumped from the magazine's coveted ranks, it's usually cause for concern. This is not one of those times.
As there is a new Fit barreling towards dealerships for an on-sale date this spring, we wouldn't pay too much credence to the current car's demotion. It's expected that the next-generation Fit should pass the test with flying colors, as CR is quick to point out that newer Hondas have traditionally done very well in the tricky small-overlap crash testing.
Of the subcompact cars tested by the IIHS, only the Kia Rio, which netted a "Marginal" score overall, is a Consumer Reports "Recommended" vehicle.

Recharge Wrap-up: BYD unveils 60-ft electric bus, Honda sticking with hybrids in Europe

Thu, Oct 16 2014

BYD has debuted a 60-foot electric bus at the American Public Transportation Association Expo in Houston, TX. The Lancaster bus, as it is called, has a 120-passenger capacity and can drive over 170 miles on a single charge. The articulated bus features low floors and no steps, thanks to in-wheel hub motors. BYD also displayed a 40-foot electric bus that drove the 1,500 miles to the show under its own power (recharging along the way, of course). Read more in the press release below. Honda says it will continue to sell hybrids in Europe, despite the fact that it has stopped selling the CR-Z and Insight due to slow sales. "Our focus at the moment is on our 1.6-liter diesel but we haven't forgotten about hybrid technology," says Honda Europe's Philip Ross. Honda will sell the next-generation Fit (badged as the Jazz) in Europe when it launches next summer, and will sell the next-gen hybrid version beginning in 2016. Honda sold 4,500 of the Jazz hybrid in Europe last year. Read more at Automotive News. XL Hybrids is selling its XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System in California. The news comes after the California Air Resources Board issued an executive order allowing the aftermarket hybrid conversion for 2012-2014 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans. The XL3 Hybrid regenerative braking conversion increases real-world mpg by about 25 percent. Read more in the press release below. NRG eVgo has finished installing 60 charging stations at the Sony Pictures Entertainment studio lot and offices in Culver City, California. The Level 2 chargers, which will be managed by NRG eVgo, allow employees to charge their EVs during the workday. An average of 90 EVs and PHEVs park at the studio headquarters every day, thanks in part to Sony Pictures' Alternative Vehicles Incentive program for its employees. Learn more in the press release below. Pennsylvania's Public Utility Commission will allow operators of EV charging stations to set prices based on kilowatt hour usage. This change ensures that drivers pay for the actual energy they use, rather than the time they spend charging, since different cars can charge at different speeds. Car Charging Group has already begun using the per-kWh fee structure at its charging stations throughout the state. Other states that allow kWh pricing are California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, Oregon, Virginia and Washington. Read more in the press release below.
