If you want a very well cared for, one owner (prior to myself,) original, true survivor, 5-speed Honda Insight, read on!  I have owned many First Gen Honda Insights over the last 6 years or so.  I am not a dealer.  I am an obsessed insight fanatic (private owner.) This particular Insight has spent it's whole life in Massachusetts (except for me over the last 10 months.)  It is a very clean example!  This is further evidenced by it's super clean carfax report. I have done a ton of work to get this car where it is today.  Mechanically: here's just some of the list (using all honda parts:) high voltage battery pack (6 months ago,) new egr valve, transmission rebuilt, new upper and lower o2 sensors, catalytic converter and exhaust gaskets, new windshield, new brake rotors and ceramic pads, both drive axles, both hubs/bearings, new spark plugs, cleaned egr plate, transmission mount, new fuel injectors, new wipers and wiper arms, trip meter button, new trunk actuator,  hatch struts, new window switches (including operable auto-down,) grid charger harness, clutch interrupt circuit, regenerative braking circuit, throttle smoothing circuit, etc, etc.  Cosmetically: rear view mirror, heater knob, antenna, A-pillar trim clips, pedal covers, steering wheel, rear hatch carpeting, rear net, both driver's and passenger's seats (bottoms and backs,) wipers and arms, new door to window outside trims (both left and right sides,) floor mats, middle mat netting, interior door handles, correct 165/65/14 Bridgestone re92 low rolling resistance tires, all 3 front underbody panels, all new decals, etc, etc.  This car is equipped with the rare 4-speaker stereo option, and sounds great!  I totally steam cleaned the car's interior (as I do all my insights, but it hardly needed it.)    All the rubber is perfect, (around the doors, rear hatch, hood, etc.)  The battery pack charges, discharges, and performs flawlessly.  I recently replaced the HV battery pack and it performs exactly as it should (in March.)  While replacing it, I wired the HV pack for my digital grid charger (as I do all my insights,) and cycle the pack regularly.  For those not in the know, grid charging the pack peaks and equalizes the cells within the pack.  This is extremely good for the battery, and prolongs it's life and health greatly. To read more about my grid chargers, see my ebay item # 301253131748.   The car has the factory owner's manual, key and the remote.  Transmission-wise, it shifts perfectly with no synchro grind or bearing noise issues whatsoever (rebuilt 7k miles ago.)  The clutch and slave cylinder are perfect too.  I recently did a full oil and filter change with the correct Mobil1 0w-20 oil, and a full transmission fluid change, as well. Accessory-wise, everything works exactly as it should; ice cold a/c, heater, blower fan, power windows and switches, power locks and switches, turn signals, every bulb inside and out, all the dash including the trip meter, horn, turn signals, stock Honda am/fm/cassette stereo, (rare 4 speaker option, with great sound,) rear trunk release actuator, rear trunk lock, hatch struts, wipers, squirters, etc, etc.  Super clear, non-fogged headlights, etc, etc.  There are only small cosmetic imperfections (as would be expected on any car.)  Nothing major.  No check engine lights at all!  I recently had the car fully New York State inspected (includes all safety equipment, lights, brakes, emissions, computer, etc.)  It passed all with no problems whatsoever.  I have brand new floor mats for the car too!  This car is a super nice example, with all the highly desirable mods (clutch interupt, regenerative braking, throttle smoothing circruits, and I'm including one of my brand new digital grid chargers with the car, too!  (A $700 value!)  All jack equipment and spare tire are in place and nice.  I have the clean and clear transferable title, with no liens, in my name.  I have done a lot of work to this car to get it exactly where it should be, and as you see it now.  It has been my daily driver for the last 10 months, and I planned to keep it.  I am only selling it because my wife likes the color of our blue one better!  I know these fist gen Honda Insights like the back of my hand, have owned 33 of them now, and do all my own work on them (over 30 years of automotive schooling and experience,) and do not scrimp, always using correct factory Honda parts, right down to the last correct Honda screw.  There in nothing missing or inoperable, and NO surprises with this car!  You can drive it from N.Y. to CA. 10 times over if you want; it is that reliable.  So, if you want the best first gen 5-speed for your money, look no further.  Can you buy an insight cheaper?  Yup.  But what you save in initial costs, you'll put back into the car fixing the stuff it needs, both mechanically and cosmetically (believe me, I know!)  This is where the old saying, "You get what you pay for" holds quite true!  Any questions at all, feel free to call me directly at 716-946-6070.

Thanks for your time and consideration!

Respectfully,

Chris in Gasport, N.Y. (14067)

Honda, Hyundai and Kia get best word-of-mouth recommendations in US

Mon, 09 Dec 2013

Forget advertising, incentives and, yes, even our excellently crafted vehicle reviews, sometimes the best way for automakers to sell cars is still good ol' fashioned word of mouth. In an attempt to measure this "word of mouth" power, The Boston Consulting Group, a management consulting firm, has created a new study called the Brand Advocacy Index (BAI). The index takes a look at how various industries perform from person to person. Those industries include automotive, smartphones, grocery, mobile telecommunications and banking.
The study polled more than 32,000 individuals across Europe and in the US to come up with the top 55 brands in these various industries. On the automotive side of things, the top brands in the US were Honda, Hyundai and Kia, all tied at 63 percent. On a global scale, Volkswagen and Toyota scored the highest with a 65-percent BAI rating (both in France). The average BAI for auto industry players tallied 50 percent.
As for companies in other industries, Apple's iPhone was the index's top-rated smartphone, Trader Joe's was the highest recommended grocery store, Virgin was sat atop the mobile telecom industry and USAA was the top retail bank. Scroll down for the full press release on the new study.

Mid-engine Honda sports car surfaces in EU patent drawings

Wed, Jul 19 2017

Based on new patent drawings, Honda clearly isn't done with sports cars. The design you see above was registered and published by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and was first reported by AutoGuide. The drawings show a rakish, angular sports car design that is very clearly mid-engine. It could almost pass for a Lamborghini. But the name on the design is Honda Motor Company, and aside from the name, it bares a strikingly similar appearance to a mid-engine design found in a Honda patent two years ago. In fact, the only major difference between this car and the older one (seen below) is the lack of a windshield and top. The shape of the lights and the grille, as well as the front fender vent and character lines running from it, are reminiscent of the S660 kei roadster for Japan. The large, angular intakes look more related to the Acura NSX, though. View 6 Photos Unlike the previous patent renderings of the car, this one has an interior, and the inclusion of it may be why the top and windshield are absent. The interior also leads us to believe that this design is for an upcoming concept. The steering wheel is a small, rectangular piece similar to what you would find in an F1 car or Indy car. The seats also look like thin buckets designed to be as sporty and light as possible. A production version would probably have a bit more cushioning and a round wheel. It does look like there is a pushbutton transmission setup in the center console like current Acuras, though. So what does this mean? Honda is clearly still working on this design, and based on some of the more radical design choices for the interior, we're likely looking at a concept car that will show up in the next couple of years. Whether a concept will lead to a production car is tough to say. There's definitely room in Honda's global sports car roster between the S660 and NSX for something in between, and Honda has reported that it's getting pressure from dealers for sporty cars. The exterior design isn't so extreme it couldn't be tweaked for production, either. There have also been rumors that Honda is preparing a mid-engine hybrid sports car with the Type R's turbocharged four-cylinder. Honda also holds a trademark for the name "ZSX," which fits the naming scheme of the NSX and old RSX, but at least in Europe, Honda has held the trademark since 2009. We'll just have to wait and see what Honda does.

Honda showcases the letter R in cool new ad campaign

Sun, 02 Nov 2014

Okay Honda, you've won the Internet for the week. This cool "double-sided" video, featuring the new Civic and Civic Type R Concept, is one of the more interesting YouTube spots we've seen.
On the surface, "The Other Side" shows a regular dad, simply going about his day and picking his daughter's up from school. But press the "R" key while watching the video, and it transitions into an alternate video. The dad is now in a Civic Type R Concept, and he's not on the school run. Instead, he's involved in something... a bit more devious.
We won't spoil the ending, but suffice it to say, you'll want to watch this video through to its conclusion. Also, because of the unique nature of this video, we can't embed it here, so you'll need to hop over to Honda's UK YouTube channel.
