This auction is for a USED 2003 Honda Element EX with a 2.4 liter VTEC DOHC motor.

This vehicle needs new piston rings. Compression in the #2 cylinder (and possibly others) is below factory spec. The "check engine" light is permanently on. You will need to rebuild or replace the motor to correct this. THIS MUST BE DONE SOON as this condition will eventually result in damage to the catalytic converter.

Right now the vehicle drives pretty well. Once you get it moving above 5-10mph it accelerates and runs pretty well. The idle is noticeably rough and the motor is prone to stalling at low speeds. Gas mileage is significantly less than normal, especially in city driving. You don't want to drive this car any further than you have to.

The overall condition of the vehicle is "well used." This has been my everyday vehicle since I purchased it new in 2003. (I am the original owner.) It has had a very interesting life! The interior and exterior are "broom clean" but far from "detailed out." There is no wreck damage beyond the small cosmetic dings on the hood and passenger side rear above the taillight (see photos). The fabric on the driver's seat is badly worn in one spot (this happened when the vehicle was new -- not sure why) but otherwise all's well with the interior. To my knowledge other than the low compression the vehicle has no mechanical problems. The suspension is fine and the handling is normal. The tires are in great shape (less than 10K miles). It has a working U-Haul trailer hitch and lights.

With a new or rebuilt motor this Element could serve you well for years to come. There's nothing like an Element for utility! Plus they're sporty and the sound system is awesome. I love this car and was planning to keep it for as long as possible... until that darn "check engine" light came on... I have all the repair records dating back to when I drove it off the lot in 2003.

This Element will be sold AS IS with NO WARRANTY WHATSOEVER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. It has a valid Maine inspection sticker and registration, and I have a clear title I can sign over to you when you come to pick up the vehicle.

Please contact me with questions. Thank you for your interest!

Tier 1 suppliers call GM the worst OEM to work with

Mon, 12 May 2014

Among automakers with a big US presence, General Motors is the worst to work for, according to a new survey from Tier 1 automotive suppliers, conducted by Planning Perspectives, Inc.
The Detroit-based manufacturer, which has been under fire following the ignition switch recall and its accompanying scandal, finished behind six other automakers with big US manufacturing operations. Suppliers had issues with trust and communications, as well as intellectual property protection. GM was also the least likely to allow suppliers to raise their prices in the face of unexpected increases in material cost, all of which contributed to 55 percent of suppliers saying their relationship with GM was "poor to very poor."
GM's cross-town competitors didn't fare much better. Chrysler finished in fifth place, ahead of GM and behind Dearborn-based Ford, which was passed for third place this year by Nissan. Toyota took the top marks, while Honda captured second place.

Watch these guys creatively cover No Diggity in a Honda Civic

Mon, 17 Feb 2014

People do some weird things in their cars. Take these two gentlemen and their Honda Civic. Rather than tune in to satellite radio or hook up an iPod, they've opted to create their own music.
YouTube musician Flula (in the passenger seat) and his friend Chester perform a cover of Blackstreet's Number-One Billboard hit, "No Diggity," complete with the requisite auto tuning, all while on the go. Is it weird that we almost prefer this wacky version to the original '90s R&B classic? Take a look - and a listen - by scrolling below, and note that we've included the original song featuring Dr. Dre... you know, for comparative purposes.

Honda favoring turbo over hybrid for US-market Vezel

Fri, 20 Dec 2013

While Honda gears up to unveil the new Fit to the US market at the Detroit Auto Show next month, back in its home market, the car's crossover cousin is just going on sale. The Vezel was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show last month and already has a three-month waiting list in Japan, where Honda projects that 90 percent of customers will opt for the hybrid version. Not so in the United States, however.
When the Vezel reaches American showrooms, there'll be a number of key differences. For starters, it will carry a different name, though Honda isn't saying what that will be. For another, it will be built for North American consumption at Honda's new plant in Mexico, roughly half of whose production capacity is reportedly being allocated to the new crossover. And finally, it'll have a different engine.
In Japan the Vezel is being offered with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, with or without electric assist. Honda won't offer the hybrid version here - at least not initially - but it is preparing to offer a turbo option. Although it has yet to announce US specifications and options, the 1.5-liter turbo four (also unveiled at the Tokyo show) is considered a stronger likelihood than the 1.0- or 2.0-liter versions.
