Clean Title 1 Owner -b16a, Limited Slip Dif,ctr Cams/springs,autopower Roll Bar on 2040-cars
Hamilton, Ohio, United States
Condition: Clean title and extremely clean inside and out. It has a rust free body and even the brake lines running to the rear are still shiny etc.
The car had been lightly backed into and creased the RF fender. It was later scraped on the LF fender and front bumper fascia (also took off a 1/2" chip of paint on the drivers mirror that was touched up). All replacements were with OEM Honda parts and professionally painted with premium paint. The front bumper was very recently replaced with an OEM Honda part and professionally painted with premium paints and clear coats. All other body panels are original paint etc. A few very small dings due to storage damage can be found. See pictures of the small gouges on the rear bumper (drivers side)...they were touched up but are noticeable up close. The carbon fiber hood was painted to match and has hood pins in place for safety (a few very minor cracks were created when installing the hood pins but have not changed in 15 years). The window tinting was just professionally removed. Meticulously maintained! Mobil 1 was used exclusively with either Honda or Mobil 1 oil filters only. Oil level has never dropped between changes. New timing belt, water pump, drive belts installed. Fresh valve adjustment and the K&N air filter has just been cleaned, dried, oiled and re-installed. Motul RBF (Racing Brake Fluid) has been changed regularly. Cam seal had a slight leak and was just repaired. CV boots were replaced 10,000 miles ago. Clutch was replaced 15,000 miles ago. A/C is nice and cold. The factory windshield was replaced 8,000 miles ago. There was one very small rock chip in the middle of the passenger side since but it has been professionally repaired so it will not spread. Suspension is firm but not at all bouncy. Note:The Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 ultra high performance summer tires are showing their age with some cracking(due to being stored so much) and have 1/8" tread life remaining (see pictures). Body/Interior modifications:

History: I purchased the vehicle new in 1996 from Bellevue Honda in Bellevue (Omaha), Nebraska. The car was always garaged in the snow belt and rarely driven in winter. I kept the underside washed all the time when/if it was exposed to snow. I then lived in Phoenix, AZ for 5 years (no rust obviously) and finally here in SW Ohio but only drove it a few times in snow here as well. The car was pictured in Sport Compact Car magazine as it was the cover vehicle for the Honda Hybrid web page for a few months in 1998. It has had several upgrades since then as you can tell from the lists above. The engine had just over 33,000 kilometers on it when installed and the car had 40,000 miles. I have never drag raced the car. I did run the car on Laguna Seca with street legal tires and Honda OEM pads. Fast lap was 1 minute 52 seconds and that was prior to limited slip being installed. I also had the pleasure of driving it to and in performance driving schools at Gingerman Raceway, Phoenix International (road course), Buttonwillow, Willow Springs, Second Creek Raceway (no longer exists in Colorado), Brainerd International and the Las Vegas Speedway (road course). On street tires I would average 38MPG at 75MPH. Car comes with it's 2 original keys and an Alpine remote. Unfortunately I have not been be really using this car for the purpose it was built for quite a few years. As you can see, no cheap parts were ever put on this car. I was even married in it! |

Brand new cars are being sold with defective Takata airbags
Wed, Jun 1 2016If you just bought a 2016 Audi TT, 2017 Audi R8, 2016–17 Mitsubishi i-MiEV, or 2016 Volkswagen CC, we have some unsettling news for you. A report provided to a US Senate committee that oversees the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and reported on by Automotive News claims these vehicles were sold with defective Takata airbags. And it gets worse. Toyota and FCA are called out in the report for continuing to build vehicles that will need to be recalled down the line for the same issue. That's not all. The report also states that of the airbags that have been replaced already in the Takata recall campaign, 2.1 million will need to eventually be replaced again. They don't have the drying agent that prevents the degradation of the ammonium nitrate, which can lead to explosions that can destroy the airbag housing and propel metal fragments at occupants. So these airbags are out there already. We're not done yet. There's also a stockpile of about 580,000 airbags waiting to be installed in cars coming in to have their defective airbags replaced. These 580k airbags also don't have the drying agent. They'll need to be replaced down the road, too. A new vehicle with a defective Takata airbag should be safe to drive, but that margin of safety decreases with time. If all this has you spinning around in a frustrated, agitated mess, there's a silver lining that is better than it sounds. So take a breath, run your fingers through your hair, and read on. Our best evidence right now demonstrates that defective Takata airbags – those without the drying agent that prevents humidity from degrading the ammonium nitrate propellant – aren't dangerous yet. It takes a long period of time combined with high humidity for them to reach the point where they can rupture their housing and cause serious injury. It's a matter of years, not days. So a new vehicle with a defective Takata airbag should be safe to drive, but that margin of safety decreases with time – and six years seems to be about as early as the degradation happens in the worst possible scenario. All this is small comfort for the millions of people who just realized their brand-new car has a time bomb installed in the wheel or dashboard, or the owners who waited patiently to have their airbags replaced only to discover that the new airbag is probably defective in the same way (although newer and safer!) as the old one.
Recharge Wrap-up: First VW e-Golf in US up for auction, meet Project Ain't Fuelin'
Tue, Oct 14 2014Volkswagen is auctioning the first e-Golf in the US to raise money for Global Green USA. The auction is live now, and bidding goes until 3:30 pm Eastern on October 29. Global Green USA will use the proceeds to help find solutions to climate change, and the winner will get to enjoy emissions-free driving before the car e-Golf goes on sale in November. If you don't live in or near California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont or Washington DC, you might want to sit this one out, as the car will only be available to pick up at dealers in those initial launch states. Go bid now, or learn more in the press release below. Berlin, Germany will use Solaris electric buses for a complete bus line in 2015. The downtown line will run 3.8 miles between Zoologischer Garten Station and Sudkreuz. The transport operator Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) will use four of the Solaris e-buses for the test, each about 39 feet long. The buses use a 200-kilowatt inductive charging system at the ends of the line to recharge in just a few minutes. The government-funded test runs through 2016, but BVG pans to use the electric buses beyond that timeline. Read more at Green Car Congress. The American Petroleum Institute (API) is worried that the Obama administration will use ethanol requirements to influence a Senate race in Iowa. In the midst of a close race against Republican Joni Ernst, Representative Bruce Braley, the Democratic candidate, is urging Obama to reject a cut in the Renewable Fuel Standard. The November election approaches, meanwhile the EPA continues to delay issuing an ethanol requirement for the year, with or without its proposed 16-percent reduction. Rejecting the cut could help get farmers and ethanol producers on the side of Braley. "We are very concerned that the signals we are seeing from the administration is that the political calculations are outweighing sound fuels policy," says API's Bob Greco. Read more at Businessweek. Project Ain't Fuelin' aims to fix up old cars to return them to original fuel economy, and then surpass it. Episode 3 of Valvoline's Under The Hood video series features Daniel Gray of MPGomatic, who is doing just that to a 1999 Honda Civic HX Coupe. He aims to get 50 mpg out of the old Civic by tuning it up, tinkering with the aerodynamics, switching to more efficient tires and other modifications.
Consumer Reports no longer recommends Honda Civic
Mon, Oct 24 2016Consumer Reports annual Car Reliability Survey is out, and yes, there are some big surprises. First and foremost? The venerable publication no longer recommends the Honda Civic. In fact, aside from the walking-dead CR-Z and limited-release Clarity fuel-cell car, the Civic is the only Honda to miss out on CR's prestigious nod. At the opposite end there's a surprise as well – Toyota and Lexus remain the most reliable brands on the market, but Buick cracked the top three. That's up from seventh last year, and the first time for an American brand to stand on the Consumer Reports podium. Mazda's entire lineup earned Recommended checks as well. Consumer Reports dinged the Civic for its "infuriating" touch-screen radio, lack of driver lumbar adjustability, the limited selection of cars on dealer lots fitted with Honda's popular Sensing system, and the company's decision to offer LaneWatch instead of a full-tilt blind-spot monitoring system. Its score? A lowly 58. The Civic isn't the only surprise drop from CR's Recommended ranks. The Audi A3, Ford F-150, Subaru WRX/STI, and Volkswagen Jetta, GTI, and Passat all lost the Consumer Reports' checkmark. On the flipside, a number of popular vehicles graduated to the Recommended ranks, including the BMW X5, Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette, and Cruze, Hyundai Santa Fe, Porsche Macan, and Tesla Model S. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the hilariously recall-prone Ford Escape getting a Recommended check – considering the popularity of Ford's small crossover, this is likely a coup for the brand, as it puts the Escape on a level playing field with the Recommended Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Nissan Rogue. While Ford is probably happy to see CR promote the Escape, the list wasn't as kind for every brand. For example, of the entire Fiat Chrysler Automobiles catalog, the ancient Chrysler 300 was the only car to score a check – there wasn't a single Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati, or Ram on the list. That hurts. FCA isn't alone at the low end, either. GMC, Jaguar Land Rover, Mini, and Mitsubishi don't have a vehicle on CR's list between them, while brands like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Nissan, Lincoln, Infiniti, and Cadillac only have a few models each. You can check out Consumer Reports entire reliability roundup, even without a subscription, here.
