2001 Honda Civic Lx W/ New Front Tires, Front Suspension, Brakes & Rotors! on 2040-cars

2001 Honda Civic LX 1.7L, 5 SPD manual transmission with 168,156 miles. This car has been well maintained. Recently, the check engine light became illuminated so I changed the upstream O2 sensor. I later discovered that it was the downstream O2 sensor. So, I replaced the downstream sensor as well. In addition, when I was replacing the brake pads recently I noticed that the lower control arm bushings were totally blown out on both sides of the car. So, I replaced the lower control arms, lower ball joints, and sway bar links on both sides (see pictures). Of note, the lower ball joints were professionally pressed in at my local shop. I also decided to replace both front brake rotors with new Bendix brake rotors. Also, the timing belt and water pump was changed at around 125,000 miles. The battery is about a year old Sears Diehard. When I replaced the battery, last year I also replaced the alternator. The spark plugs were replaced with new NGK plugs last month. So, this car is driving like a new car right now and feels very good. I also recently purchased outer tie rods for both sides. However, the old tie rods appear to still be in good condition. I will provide the new tie rods to the winning bidder. I would recommend getting an alignment once the outer tie rods are done. The front tires are new BF Goodrich Traction TA 185-65-14. The rear tires are also BF Goodrich Traction TA tires with about 60% tread life left. The Motegi wheels were purchased at Sears and are in good condition with some curb rash. The transmission and clutch are working well. The only issue is that for some odd reason, the gears feel harder to shift in colder weather. It seems to be a common issue with Hondas. I had a shop check it out and all is well. There are some scratches, 1 area where some rust has started and the right rear quarter panel got dinged in a parking lot a few months ago (see pictures). All of these issues are merely cosmetic and I attempted to fix the right rear quarter panel by pushing it out from inside the trunk. There is only a slight separation between the quarter panel and the rear bumper cover which is hardly noticeable. I also recently reconditioned the headlights so that's why they look so good in the pictures. Of note, the Yakima roof rack is not included. I'm only selling because I recently purchased a 2006 Scion TC and I have too many cars right now. I am the second owner and purchased it in June 2009. I have receipts for all wok done. This is a very reliable car and has always started as long as I have owned it. The only time it didn't start is when I changed the battery a year ago. This is a no reserve auction. What car should James Robertson buy to drive his famous 21-mile commute?
Thu, Feb 5 2015The Internet has been abuzz this week with the story of Detroit resident James Robertson, the 56-year-old factory worker who has walked some 21 miles to work for the last 10 years. The Detroit Free Press brought Robertson's story to the fore, helping an online fundraising campaign to generate more than $275,000 (as of this writing). The original goal was just $5,000, or about enough to replace the used Honda that died on Robertson back in 2005, and left him walking. So, newly flush with funds, what's the perfect car for Robertson to buy? Let's look at the specifics of his situation, and try to pick out the best options. Here's what we know: Robertson's commute is (famously) 21 miles; he lives in downtown Detroit (for now) and seems pretty humble, so something very flashy is probably out; former Honda aside, his ties to the city (and statements about being a Ford fan) seem to indicate a Detroit Three company product is best; he's a single guy with a girlfriend; he's got to deal with Michigan weather, and the sometimes fickle snow removal processes in The D. Here are some choices: Ford F-150 Robertson is on record as being a Taurus fan, and after a decade of walking I've no doubt that the big sedan would offer a cozy respite. Still, as a car guy and a student of the industry, I'd have a hard time recommending a sedan so clearly in need of replacement. Especially when The Blue Oval has such great stuff within the rest of its roster. The 2015 F-150 seems almost perfect for Robertson. Opting for either of the new EcoBoost V6 engines should help keep fuel bills in reasonable check, while healthy ride height and four-wheel drive will get him to work on time even during the snowiest of snow days. Better still, with a fat options sheet and car-like ride quality, Robertson can have just about every amenity he might want, in a package that won't disrespect his blue-collar roots. Chevrolet Colorado You guys saw this one coming, right? The smaller footprint of the midsize Chevy pickup, relative to some of the other options here, should be an advantage for urban parking and driving. And again, 4x4 is an option for the nasty weather, the running costs should stay pretty low and there aren't many tech/luxury features that can't be had in-cabin. I'd go ahead and splash out on the Crew Cab bodystyle, too, just in case Robertson feels like starting a carpool.
Acura NSX GT3 data 'will inform future iterations' of the street car
Wed, Jul 20 2016Motorsports programs exist to drive innovation in road vehicles, and that's precisely what's happening at Honda. Acura NSX development boss Nick Robinson told Autocar that the company's work on the GT3 racing variant is directly informing future development on the road car. "In North America, we've just unveiled the GT3 version of the car, and the development team of the street car has had some involvement in its development," Robinson said. "What works well on the track will inform future iterations and updates of the street car and vice versa." But Honda is a big company that does more than build cars. Robinson paid tribute to the impact his employer's well-known motorcycle program had on the NSX. Apparently, building stuff like the CBR helped Honda with the NSX's complicated packaging. "For many years our motorcycle development teams have strived to ensure the optimum centralization of mass, ensuring the lowest possible center of gravity," Robinson told Autocar. "This leads to the best possible yaw response." Is this all a sign that a long-rumored lighter, faster NSX, potentially wearing the vaunted Type R badge, will be especially track-focused? Maybe. Robinson's comments indicate that the company is doing something with the mountains of data it collects running a GT3 program. While a pure road-focused NSX-R successor seems like it'd be a waste of that data, an NSX-based rival to the Porsche 911 GT3 RS might make a lot more sense. Ford, Toyota clean up in Best Car For The Money Awards
Fri, 22 Feb 2013The U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards picks winners by looking at the average transaction price, five-year total cost of ownership, the regard a car has from the automotive press, reliability figures from J.D. Power and Associates and safety data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The result, according to the magazine, is "the best combination of critical acclaim and long-term value."
Ford nabbed six of the 21 categories that received awards this year, the Focus, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Taurus, Escape and Edge getting trophies. Toyota and its Lexus and Scion sub-brands took another five, the Tacoma and Tundra owning the two categories given to pickup trucks. The other ten awards were split between Honda with three, Buick with two, and one each for Subaru, BMW, Hyundai, Chevrolet and Mazda.
