This was going to be a keeper, so I spent good money on excellent prep and paint.  Inside of vehicle *is* painted, but did not have time to do insides of doors and hatches before ran out of paint booth time.  The dark, rich blue is not a Honda color, but the Anzko Nobel Sikkens color code is 480F3.  (NOTE: The best idea of the actual paint color is the *darker* blue found on the full side view - my flash washed-out the color on the door and roof close-ups, making it look like an odd, lighter shade.)  There are now scratches on the rear hatch (someone let it rub against something else), so although it's not critical, I'd re-shoot it to be as nice as the rest.

I had the channels and holes shaved (w/welded metal, not bondo), since I couldn't find good replacement for top rubber strip or side trim.

13" Tornado rims freshly sand-blasted, sitting on whitewall tires.

Aftermarket tilt-up sunroof.  The headliner got oversprayed from insufficient masking.

Complete car, but I never tried to run it, since I was going to automatically swap-in a fully rebuild CVCC engine and add a 5-speed transmission.  It has the original engine, 4-speed transmission & carburetor.  (You still need to flush 6+ year old gasoline, replace old fuel lines, etc. which you should do to ANY car that is 36 years old.  IMHO.)

The doors, hood and hatch are still removed from the painting, as you can see in the pictures.  The carpeting was too worn, so it's gone, but these were the best wagon seats I came across, and the best of the door cards, which I collected after owning and parting several of these vehicles through the years.

Clean Oregon title.  (I forgot to note actual mileage before posting - will have to read the odometer next time I visit her, and make a note if 80K is not correct.)

Being kept in SE Portland, at the home of a friend 11 miles from me.  You're welcome to come look, test, etc., but we have to make arrangements.

I can give it to a car shipping service, but they need to be prepaid, and arranged on your end.  My neighbor wants to set a one week limit for retrieval after you win the bidding.  If you bring a tow dolly, I'll help you load her.  (The doors are not back on, and they don't all fit inside, so you'll need extra space.  I think/hope all nuts, bolts, door handles, window cranks, etc. are inside her, but it has moved a couple of times since it was disassembled for paint, so I can't guarantee it.)

Honda Civic Type R Concept is the shape of hot things to come

Thu, 02 Oct 2014

Soon, kids. Soon. The next-generation Honda Civic Type R is finally coming, and we're getting another preview of the hot hatch here at the Paris Motor Show. Of course, this one probably won't be headed to the United States (boo!), but it doesn't mean we can't get excited. After all, we're big fans of little turbo hatches, and from what we know right now, this one sure sounds sweet.
Underneath that new blue paint and red decals is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, reportedly good for 276 horsepower. Honda tells us there's a "steer axis" system with adaptive dampers, and with the push of its +R button, the suspension, steering and torque mapping are all altered to make this Type R even more Type R-ier than before. In fact, Honda says this Civic will surpass every Type R that came before it - that means every Integra, Accord, Civic and even the NSX. Hot diggity.
We've got a fresh batch of images of the Type R Concept up top, and Honda's press release is available below. Hopefully it won't be long before the production car is finally revealed.

Honda recalling 204k CR-V, Odyssey, Acura RDX models over rollaway risk

Fri, 19 Apr 2013

Honda has announced a recall over a possible rollaway risk that affects 204,169 crossover and minivan models. The specific vehicles in question are the 2012-13 Honda CR-V and Odyssey, as well as the 2013 Acura RDX.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "the brake-shift interlock blocking mechanism may become slow and allow the gear selector to be moved from the Park position without pressing the brake pedal." In other words, these vehicles could unintentionally roll away.
NHTSA states that this scenario may only happen during sub-freezing temperatures, but notes that this means the vehicles fail to conform with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 114: Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention. Honda will notify owners of the problem, and dealerships will install an updated interlocking mechanism free of charge.

Watch two Acura NSXs scorch the Nurburgring

Sat, Aug 12 2017

Some intrepid spy shooter captured these two Acura NSXs blasting around the Nurburgring. Without being there in person with a decibel meter, it's hard to tell if they're necessarily louder than stock cars, but they sure seem quick. Why test the cars now, when they've been on sale for a while now? Rumors are swirling that this could be a hardcore variant. It's unclear if Honda would call it a Type R, but a midlife refresh with a bit more power or a special limited edition with some extra kick wouldn't be unprecedented. The original NSX had several such models, and recent sports cars like the S2000 had low-volume editions, like the Club Racer variant in the United States and the Type S in Japan. Watch the video and draw your own conclusions about what this is or isn't. One thing's for sure: It's not a pure-EV variant. In other things recent about the NSX, we learned last month that an NSX GT3 non-hybrid race car version will go on sale soon. And here's our first drive of the US Acura-badged NSX from back in 2015. And here's another video from inside the cockpit during an open track day back in June.
