Greetings.  I just inherited a 2004 Vibe, so I must painfully give up my 1987 Honda Accord LX (4 door automatic).  It's that ideal story - I bought this car 5 years ago from the family of a little old lady in Alabama who passed away, and it was in immaculate condition, with only 79,000 miles on it.  I've mostly kept it in Chattanooga, but have driven it to Dallas and Atlanta with no problems.  With only 2 owners, it now has under 128,000.  The title is clear.  As you can see from the free Autocheck report, the car has never resided outside of the South and has never seen snow.  Autocheck says that it usually lists this vehicle with ratings from 9 - 27, however, this Honda Accord comes in with a rating of 34!

I've cared for it extremely well and kept the owner's manual and ALL the receipts for maintenance, which you can view in PDF upon request (including the little old lady's handwriting on the original buyer's receipt!).  I've been taking it to the same two mechanics (who can't believe how good the condition is) for years and maintaining everything needed from oil and transmission fluid changes to a new water pump, new radiator, and new timing belt. (expensive investments to now be selling it a year later).   If I had to list out the car's perks, I would say it has:

-Great vintage colors - gold outside and milk chocolate brown inside
-Carpet, dash, and interior in AMAZING condition - garaged most of it's life (that was her, not me.  ha.)
-Regular oil, coolant, and transmission fluid changes (oil every 3,000 miles - coolant and transmission according to specifications - see receipts)
-Clean, well cared for engine (see photo)
-New brake pads and master cylinder (Winter 2013)
-New radiator and hoses (Summer 2012)
-New spark plugs and belts (Fall 2011)
-New timing belt and water pump (Summer 2012)
-Cold AC and great working heat
-Always rotated tires (every 4,000 miles)
-Radio/CD Player/iPod port (Fall 2010)
-Working automatic windows, all gauges, all lights, and blinkers
-The cool flip headlights (I'm going to miss these!)
-Smoke-free
-Bike rack (included!)

I love this little car.  If I was married or had a long term partner, I would never get rid of it - it's a perfect 2nd car or just for for getting around town.  But, I've been doing a lot of roadtrips, and it's not comfortable.  Plus I don't want to pay insurance on 2 cars.  The quirks I will warn you about are minor, but I just want to be as transparent as possible:

-The trunk is slightly damp smelling - I left it open during a huge rainstorm, (trying to dry it out!) and it got soaked.  But I've vacuumed and shampooed it so it isn't moldy (see picture)
-The body is in great condition for the age, but has just one small set of dents on the front right fender where I hit a pole (see picture)
-You can see a little fading and spiliting on the top of the back seat bench (see picture)
-You have to charge the AC every other summer as it slowly stops getting cold
-The cruise control won't stay on sometimes; other times, it works fine

Quirks included, I believe this is a great deal for a car that is so well maintained - especially an 80s Honda.  It may be old, but if you take care of it like I have, it's got another 128,000 on it!  As you can see from online ratings (http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/1987-Honda-Accord-Overview-c4655) my reserve price is about on par for the average selling price for this car with this low of mileage.

In spite of all of this, please hear me out: you're buying a car from 1987.  If you're looking for flawless, you should probably move on and buy something newer.  While I personally believe this car has a lot of life left, (and is a cool little vintage machine!), I am not a mechanic and car professional, and am selling it as-is, with no warranties or guarantees, and by bidding on it, you release me from an indemnity, harm, or legal action as I have represented it to the best of my ability.  The car is also for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time without notice should a buyer come along.  Please bid carefully, but with confidence as my feedback rating is 100%.

If you are interested in shipping the vehicle, I am willing to work with you to get it to the appropriate local shipping company (Chattanooga, TN).  Please be able to Paypal me the deposit within 48 hours of the auction's end.

If you are interested, please feel free to ask questions.  Thank you!
John Mark

For an overview on the 1987 Honda Accord, cargurus.com says:

Many of those who bought the '87 Honda Accord when it was new are still driving it and have odometer readings from 162,000 to more than 300,000. It's no wonder then that many say it's a car that just can't die.

Honda Accord, Civic are America's most stolen cars

Tue, 20 Aug 2013

The National Insurance Crime Bureau has released its latest Hot Wheels study on the most popular stolen cars and trucks for 2012. The study has changed a bit from past years, with the new findings listing only the make and model of each vehicle, while taking into account all model years in its totals. Previous iterations only focused on the most stolen vehicles of a particular model year, with that make and model not appearing anywhere else on the list so as not to appear to call out a particular car. Confusing, eh? Said another way, in previous studies, if the three most stolen vehicles were the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Belchfire Turbo from Fictitious Motors, only the model year with the highest number of thefts would make the list.
The new study takes all model years into consideration while breaking down the number of vehicles stolen per model year in a full, in-depth report. Separately, the NICB is also listing the top 25 new vehicles stolen in 2012. That list is limited exclusively to model year 2012 entries.
Honda took the top two spots in the most stolen vehicles list, with 58,596 Accord models stolen and 47,037 Civic models stolen. The study is interesting, though, in that the most recent model year for the Accord is 1997, while the most recent the Civic is 2000. In fact, Hondas from 1990 to 2000 make up 16 of the top 20 cars stolen in 2012, according to the NICB. Compare that with the MY2012 list, where Honda's vehicles are eleventh and fifteenth, and it looks like the Japanese brand has been beefing up its theft control.

Honda showcases the letter R in cool new ad campaign

Sun, 02 Nov 2014

Okay Honda, you've won the Internet for the week. This cool "double-sided" video, featuring the new Civic and Civic Type R Concept, is one of the more interesting YouTube spots we've seen.
On the surface, "The Other Side" shows a regular dad, simply going about his day and picking his daughter's up from school. But press the "R" key while watching the video, and it transitions into an alternate video. The dad is now in a Civic Type R Concept, and he's not on the school run. Instead, he's involved in something... a bit more devious.
We won't spoil the ending, but suffice it to say, you'll want to watch this video through to its conclusion. Also, because of the unique nature of this video, we can't embed it here, so you'll need to hop over to Honda's UK YouTube channel.

Acura already planning NSX Type R?

Wed, Jan 14 2015

Acura just took the wraps off the production version of its long-awaited new NSX, but rumors are already circulating of an even hotter version to follow. Meeting up at the Detroit Auto Show this week, Auto Express asked the NSX's chief engineer Ted Klaus about the prospect of a Type R version in the future, to which he reportedly answered: "I think everyone who loves cars wants to see a version that we say is pure red. The NSX has always been silver first, moving towards red later. Someone asked me, 'when will you be satisfied?' Probably never. What you do today, you can improve on tomorrow." That doesn't mean that tomorrow will actually come tomorrow, but it does speak to a spirit of improvement on the NSX team that could stand to keep the American-made Japanese supercar on the knife's edge and out in front of the competition, which Klaus identified as including the Ferrari 458, Audi R8 V10 and Porsche 911 Turbo. The previous model bred the NSX-R two years after its release (in the Japanese domestic market anyway), benefiting from a 265-pound weight reduction, a stiffer suspension, and though never officially confirmed, a long-suspected bump in output.
