2014 Chevrolet Silverado tows in new configurator, microsite
Mon, 21 Jan 2013Judging by your continued enthusiastic response to configurator notices, dear reader, you enjoy speccing out new cars as much as we do. Better still, there tends to be even more ways to personalize, configure and bloat theoretical MSRPs on full-size trucks as there are with more ordinary passenger cars. In addition to trim level, engine and transmission choices, truck buyers usually have to specify items like cab configuration, bed length, number of driven axles, tow packages, gear ratios and all sorts of bits and bobs.
That's why we're pleased to see the DIY specification utility for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado come alive so soon after this week's Detroit Auto Show debut. While the configurator lacks pricing (General Motors hasn't announced numbers yet) and full options, you can still spec out your half-ton rig, and even print it out or email it to your friends. Beyond the configurator, the new model-specific site is pretty cool, too, with various videos and closer looks at the truck's new features.
The new Chevrolet pickup range won't be on dealer lots until sometime this summer, so whether you're a building contractor, an avid sportsman or just a guy or gal that loves full-size trucks, you might want to check out the link below to keep your appetite whetted. If you're more of a Sierra fan, well, it looks like you're going to have to wait a while - GMC hasn't updated its site yet.
Alaska 7.0 earthquake uproots road but leaves vehicle completely intact
Fri, Nov 30 2018A magnitude-7 earthquake hit the Anchorage, Alaska area hard Friday morning and actually caused the National Weather Service to issue a tsunami warning it later canceled. As the news came rolling in, we noticed these photos of a road affected by the quake. The pictures are jaw-dropping, and we still can't believe that GMC Terrain is sitting there entirely unscathed. It looks like a scene straight out of an action movie when Earth is unexplainably collapsing all around the main characters as they race for safety. It probably wouldn't have mattered if the driver had the four-cylinder or V6 to try and escape the massive sinkhole. However, maybe Alaskans could consider the Lamborghini Urus to outrun collapsing roads if they're in the market for an all-wheel-drive SUV. Thankfully, there are no deaths or even injuries being reported as of now, but damage to buildings and roads is severe in some spots. We still can't believe how lucky this person is. It looks like some industrious folks were even able to pull the GMC out of its sinkhole completely intact too. Impressive. We'll keep you updated if there are any developments to this disaster. Inevitable GMC Canyon Denali spotted testing
Mon, Feb 16 2015Practically every other model in the GMC lineup already offers a more luxurious Denali option, so why not extend that to the Canyon midsize pickup? It's hardly a surprise to see the brand doing just that, especially since the standard model seems to be proving quite a success. This Canyon was recently spied testing wearing camouflage over its front end. The truck still needs to breathe, though, and the opening in the obfuscation makes it quite easy to spot the Denali's chrome mesh grille, rather than the horizontal slats of the standard model. Also, just peeking out of the bottom part of the masking is the lower air intake, which appears to be completely lined in chrome now. At the sides and rear, the styling is identical to the current look of the pickup, at least for this prototype. While our spies didn't snap any shots of the interior, it seems safe to anticipate the usual Denali upgrades there, including better materials and additional tech features. Of course, expect a bump in price at the same time to pay for the improvements.
