GMC reveals updated 2016 Sierra

It was just the other day that Chevy revealed the face of the new 2016 Silverado. And as might have been expected, sister brand GMC has followed up by unveiling its version in the facelifted 2016 Sierra pickup – just two and a half years since the current all-new model was rolled out. Though details released thus far remain few and far between, GMC has revealed more images of the new Sierra – in SLT, Denali and All Terrain trim levels – than Chevy did of the updated Silverado. It's got new headlights, fog lamps, and C-shaped daytime running lights and taillights, all using LED elements. It's arguably a more muscular look than the Chevy version, and with more chrome than the toned-down Silverado. That is, at least, in SLT and Denali trims. The All Terrain version looks more in line with the similarly off-road-focused Silverado Z71 and its color-keyed treatment. The changes ought to help GMC keep up the momentum that has seen its sales rise year-over-year every month over the past twelve. The interior shots indicate that the new Sierra will incorporate Apple CarPlay like GM is installing in so many models across its various brand ranges. But we'll have to wait a little while longer for all the details. With exterior styling as its top reason for purchase, the new truck adds key design elements: LED "C-shaped" signature daytime running lights and LED headlights; new front fascia and grilles for each trim level; new LED fog lamps; new bumpers; and new "C-shaped" LED taillights. The new Sierra will be available in the fourth quarter of this year, with additional details and information on the new model released in the coming months.

GM recalls 83,572 SUVs for ignition switch issue

General Motors is recalling 83,572 SUVs from the 2011 and 2012 model years over a potential ignition lock actuator issue. In affected vehicles, the actuator isn't the right size, which could cause the ignition to get stuck in the "Start" position, and then either due to a jarring event or a "cool interior temperature" the ignition could switch back to the "Accessory" position. Doing so would cause a loss of power assistance and the airbags might not deploy. This is a different ignition issue than the one that's been ongoing for the past year. GM said it expects that less than 500 vehicles suffer from the problem, but that the pool could include vehicles from 2007 through to 2014 that have already been fixed, but with defective parts. The 2011-2012 SUVs included in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notice: Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado HD, Silverado LD, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra LD, Sierra HD, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. GM will notify owners and dealers will inspect the ignition lock housing to see if it needs a free replacement. GMC SIerra Denali is ready to live the high life

Between the information for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado High Country and the accidently leaked picture on GMC's consumer site, it didn't take much imagination to envision what the 2014 GMC Sierra Denali would be like. But here it is. Going on sale this fall, the 2014 Sierra Denali will continue to be the most luxurious pickup truck in the General Motors portfolio, while getting more power and technology than ever before.
Like previous models, the 2014 Sierra Denali stands out from lower Sierra models with a big cheese-grater chrome grille, 20-inch chrome wheels and body-color bumpers. Inside, the Denali gets plenty of leather with contrasting stitching, but this is where GMC really steps up from the Silverado High Country with real aluminum trim and a new customizable eight-inch driver display in the gauge cluster. Standard features will include heated and cooled front bucket seats, the Intellilink infotainment system with Bose audio, while the options list offers a Driver Alert Package (with forward collision alert and lane departure warning), a rear-seat entertainment system and a Z71 Off-Road Package.
As for power, the standard engine will be the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 with its 355 horsepower, and the optional engine will be the new 6.2-liter V8. Although official power figures for the bigger engine aren't in yet, GM is finally putting some estimates on paper expecting around 420 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque to go with a 12,000-pound towing capacity.
