2017 GMC Acadia comes into focus

The future slate of crossovers from General Motors reportedly ride on the company's new, scalable Chi platform. With short- or long-wheelbase configurations possible, the chassis conceivably allows the automaker to be more adaptable in the configuration of its CUVs. Cadillac already appears to be testing Chi for the luxury brand's future SRX/XT5, and here it is again under heavy camouflage underpinning the next GMC Acadia. Unfortunately, the Acadia is so well concealed here that it's extremely difficult to pick out any of the styling changes, though the squared-off fenders and faint GMC logo peaking through the tape on the front wheels reveal what this vehicle is. Up front, the grille appears to sit somewhat lower than the current model, and the vertical LED running lights are easy to pick out. The orientation of the taillights through the camo suggests wraparound units not too dissimilar from the current Acadia (or is that Saturn Outlook?). The next-gen Acadia is expected to debut in 2016 as a 2017 model year vehicle. The powertrain options may include the current 3.6-liter V6, a four-cylinder and possibly even a turbo V6, and GM's new nine-speed automatic might also be for offer. GM issues CUV stop-sale due to Goodyear tires [UPDATE]

UPDATE: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that only 6,281 tires were installed on the CUVs, when in actuality, there were 6,281 CUVs affected by the stop-sale order, totaling 25,124 tires. The story has been edited to reflect this. General Motors has issued a stop-sale order on some 6,300 of its Lambda platform crossovers due to a pending recall on their 18-inch Goodyear Fortera HL tires. The affected vehicles include all three flavors of GM's large CUV platform, consisting of the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave. Goodyear is recalling a total of 48,500 Fortera HL tires after discovering "very small" cracks in the tread, found during internal testing. Of the affected tires, 32,100 were made for GM, Goodyear told Automotive News. According to GM, 6,281 CUVs were fitted with the questionable rubber, totaling 25,124 of the company's 32,100 tires. The remainder were stocked as replacements, a GM rep told Autoblog. The remaining 16,400 tires were built specifically for the aftermarket. Goodyear reports that the cracks do "not indicate a safety issue." Meanwhile, a GM spokesman told AN that stop-sale "will eventually lead to a non-compliance recall by GM." GM recalling 15k midsize pickups over leaky brakes

General Motors has announced a recall in coordination with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration related to the brakes on the 2015 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon. In the 14,838 units in the United States estimated to be affected, the front brake calipers may be leaking fluid. Needless to say, that could make them less effective, which could hinder the vehicle's ability to stop in time to avoid a collision. The affected units were all manufactured between January 6 and December 24, 2014. The fix seems simple and straightforward enough, with dealers being instructed to inspect the front brake calipers, and replace them if necessary. See below for all the details from NHTSA. The affected vehicles may experience the front brake calipers leaking brake fluid. This is due to air pockets, an imperfection in the metal caliper body. CONSEQUENCE: If the vehicle experiences a brake fluid leak it can increase the stopping distance, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. REMEDY: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the front-brake calipers if necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 10, 2015.
