Up for auction.....a very clean 1999 GMC Yukon SLT!  The first thing I would like you to know is that I just took the vehicle to my local automotive shop on 2/20/2013 and had a number of parts replaced to make sure the vehicle would be in great mechanical condition prior to selling it.  They replaced the Cap and Rotor, spark plugs and associated wires, replaced fuel filter and intake gaskets due to minor leakage of oil.  They also performed a cleaning of the throttle body with decarbonization of the plenum, intake manifold and valves, injectors and flushed the cooling system.  They also replaced one of the engine belts.  And of course, the engine oil was also changed within the past 2-3 days before listing  In all, I paid $1362.15 to make sure this vehicle is ready for a new owner!  And of course, I will provide the buyer-to-be with the receipt I received from the service work.

A few extra benefits and bonuses I would like you to be aware of.  I have replaced all 4 tires in the past 3 months and you can see from the photos that the tires have at least 90-95% tread and are essentially brand new ($650 for the 4 tires).  I also put nice rain-x windshield wipers within the past couple months and are in great shape.  I had an aftermarket CD player (kenwood) with USB port capability installed, and aftermarket Speakers (Front, middle and rear) replaced, which you can see in the photos.  These upgrades to the sound system cost ~$700 dollars.

I am selling the vehicle, as we no longer need 3 vehicles!  I am the second owner the vehicle has ever had.  I bought it back in the summer of 2009. At that time, it had 98,000 miles on it.  Now it has 116,593 and has been driven with care.  I will not drive the vehicle while up for auction, so this will be the mileage when you come to pick it up.  The vehicle has never been in an accident, and of course has been driven with care.  You can tell from the stunning exterior condition that the vehicle has been exclusively garaged for nearly all of the vehicle's life.  It has full power options, including chair adjustment, windows, etc.  And, the back seats have a fold down capability to produce a large flat surface in the back.  I also have a retractable cargo cover which came with the vehicle in case you want to cover the load of groceries you're hauling.  The windows are tinted as you can see in the photos, and the windshield is in excellent condition.

As you can see from the photos, the driver's seat does have a couple medium sized tears, consistent with the age of the vehicle, but I don't notice any discomfort while driving.  Otherwise, the interior and exterior are really quite excellent, with the all leather gray interior.

For payment, I have no problem accepting Paypal, if you prefer to really rack up some frequent flier miles.  If paying with paypal, please send payment within 24 hours of close of auction to allow time for payment to clear before picking up vehicle  Otherwise, cashier's check or standard money order are fine, if you prefer to pay upon appearing in person to pick up the vehicle.  In any case, buyer needs to arrange payment via one of these methods no later than 4 days after auction closing, as I am headed out of town on the morning of 3/3 and need to seal the deal prior to leaving.  I am located on the west side of San Antonio, Texas, and will send further pickup details after the auction ends.

Given all of the recent repairs and upgrades listed above, I would say the value of this vehicle sits very close to $4500, maybe $5000 on a good day.  But what I think doesn't matter, because this is  a NO RESERVE auction!!!  The highest bidder will take this baby home at any price!!  Please feel free to email me any questions, I am going to try to be very attentive to my email in the coming days.  Good luck!! Thanks for your interest!

Best car infotainment systems: From UConnect to MBUX, these are our favorites

Sun, Jan 7 2024

Declaring one infotainment system the best over any other is an inherently subjective matter. You can look at quantitative testing for things like input response time and various screen load times, but ask a room full of people that have tried all car infotainment systems what their favorite is, and you’re likely to get a lot of different responses. For the most part, the various infotainment systems available all share a similar purpose. They aim to help the driver get where they're going with navigation, play their favorite tunes via all sorts of media playback options and allow folks to stay connected with others via phone connectivity. Of course, most go way beyond the basics these days and offer features like streaming services, in-car performance data and much more. Unique features are aplenty when you start diving through menus, but how they go about their most important tasks vary widely. Some of our editors prefer systems that are exclusively touch-based and chock full of boundary-pushing features. Others may prefer a back-to-basics non-touch system that is navigable via a scroll wheel. You can compare it to the phone operating system wars. Just like some prefer Android phones over iPhones, we all have our own opinions for what makes up the best infotainment interface. All that said, our combined experience tells us that a number of infotainment systems are at least better than the rest. WeÂ’ve narrowed it down to five total systems in their own subcategories that stand out to us. Read on below to see our picks, and feel free to make your own arguments in the comments. Best infotainment overall: UConnect 5, various Stellantis products Ram 1500 Uconnect Infotainment System Review If thereÂ’s one infotainment system that all of us agree is excellent, itÂ’s UConnect. It has numerous qualities that make it great, but above all else, UConnect is simple and straightforward to use. Ease of operation is one of the most (if not the single most) vital parts of any infotainment system interface. If youÂ’re expected to be able to tap away on a touchscreen while driving and still pay attention to the road, a complex infotainment system is going to remove your attention from the number one task at hand: driving. UConnect uses a simple interface that puts all of your key functions in a clearly-represented row on the bottom of the screen. Tap any of them, and it instantly pulls up that menu.

GM crab walked the Hummer EV truck up and down Woodward this weekend

Mon, Aug 23 2021

Sometimes, manufacturers like to show off their fancy new wares at the Woodward Dream Cruise. It’s largely done through static showcases with big displays for the public to gawk at. However, GM did something a little different with its GMC Hummer EV truck this year. Instead of parking it at the Chevy and GM display area, it took to Woodward Avenue itself to show off the Hummer in pre-production form. Not only did GM drive the electric truck on the road in front of thousands, but it crab walked the whole way. This was our first time, and probably most of the publicÂ’s first time seeing the Hummer EV crab mode in person. Judging from the crowdÂ’s reaction (GM got its wish of everybody paying attention), folks are impressed, and maybe a bit confused at the HummerÂ’s sideways movements.  ItÂ’s a strange spectacle to see in person. At first, the truck appears as though itÂ’s sliding sideways on ice in a smooth, graceful slide. ThatÂ’s because even though the wheels are turned, the front of the truck is still pointing dead straight ahead. The GM employee behind the wheel of the prototype appeared to be moving forward at about 5-10 mph — it appears shockingly quick in person for the way this behemoth of a truck presents itself. The tech making it work is rather simple in concept. GM simply took existing rear-wheel steering technology, then amplified and modified it for this type of movement. Whereas most cars with rear-wheel steering max out at around 5 degrees of lock with the rear wheels, this Hummer can turn the wheels up to 10 degrees. Turn the wheel left or right in crab mode, and the Hummer moves diagonally down the street. If you use it for its intended purpose, crab mode is meant to help you navigate the Hummer through trails it might otherwise be too big to fit through using regular steering. In reality, we suspect most folks might use crab mode in the exact same fashion as GM did this past weekend: to impress people. And honestly, we canÂ’t blame them. It was a seriously cool sight to see. Crab mode in action: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.

New Chevrolet Silverado to be revealed on Facebook on Thursday

Tue, 11 Dec 2012

There's not much to see here, but if you're one of those waiting for the reveal of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, above is the teaser image that Chevrolet posted on its Facebook page. We've seen the truck in form-fitting camo before, and even less can be made out here beyond those seriously punchy Silverado-esque fenders and the knowledge that the projector-beam headlamps teased previously do indeed work. We'll have to wait until Thursday for a full perusal of the "bold exterior design" and "careful attention given to every detail" we've been promised.
Gathering intel and rumors, magnesium and aluminum contribute to the Silverado's weight loss plan, the purported "High Country" top-tier trim will contribute to luxury pickup truck competition and profit margins and the next-generation small-block V8 will contribute to improved fuel economy. On the engine note, there have been rumors of available V6 engines, and when Facebook user John Jones asked "Where's your answer to that EcoBoost Chevy?", the Bowtie replied "stay tuned on the 13th. We think you'll be pleased...".
Along with the "Raise the Bar" tag, Chevrolet says of the Silverado, "You asked, we delivered." You can watch the reveal live on Chevrolet's Facebook page at 9:30 am EST, this Thursday, December 13. The GMC Sierra 1500 will also be there, and we'll see both in person at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
