2019 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup teased on Twitter

GM's half-ton pickup line will be fully rounded up later this week when the new GMC Sierra 1500 is revealed. Though the unveiling is on March 1, GMC has provided a teaser of the new truck ahead of time on Twitter. It shows only the front fascia, but considering the Sierra's history of simply being a badge-engineered Silverado, it's arguably the most important angle of the truck. The teaser confirms a few things we were expecting based on past spy shots. The headlights look much more conventional than the Silverado's rather small units. The Sierra's grille, unlike the Silverado's, will also rise above the tops of the headlights, providing more of a big-rig appearance. We also finally get to see the GMC badge on the front of the Sierra, and it looks like it's an enormous rendition. As for the rest of the truck, previous spy shots have shown the Sierra will have other subtle styling changes from the Silverado. The wheel wells are shaped differently, and the taillights will be unique to the GMC. The interior of the new Sierra will look almost identical to that of the Silverado, with the exception of a few minor trim details. We also expect the Sierra to use the same engine lineup as the Chevy's, which at this point we know will consist of a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel inline-six, and naturally aspirated 5.3- and 6.2-liter V8s. GMC has received 65,000 Hummer EV orders so far

The GMC Hummer pickup truck only just went on sale, and already there's word from company brass that demand is higher than expected. According to a report from CNBC, Duncan Aldred, global vice president of GMC, said the automaker has received more than 65,000 combined orders for the current electric truck and upcoming SUV. What's more, the number of customers converting reservations into orders is humming along at 95%, which is also higher than the company projected. "Production’s actually slightly ahead of plan and weÂ’re putting things in place now to actually expedite that as well, so we can deliver these reservations quicker than we originally thought," Aldred said, adding that new orders placed today probably won't result in a delivered vehicle until 2024. "WeÂ’re doing all the studies on that and weÂ’re confident we can go a lot quicker than we originally thought," Aldred said, "But it still means a reservation now probably means delivering in Â’24." The version of the Hummer pickup that's currently being built is the highest-spec Edition 1 model. That truck ran at least $110,295, but since it's already sold out, new customers will be looking at Hummer EV 3X that starts right around the $100,000 mark before any optional equipment is added (and assuming you can find a dealer that won't try to jack up the price). At some unspecified point in the next year or so, GMC will start building a lower-cost Hummer 2X for $89,995. A year or so later, the  $79,995 Hummer EV 2 will make its debut. GM readying aluminum-body fullsize pickups

Ford's extensive use of aluminum in its 2015 F-150 is a big deal. A really big deal. Big enough, in fact, that General Motors is reportedly changing its fullsize pickup strategy. According to The Wall Street Journal, The General has locked in partnerships with Alcoa Inc. and Novelis Inc. - companies that will supply aluminum for the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks.
"Ford's introduction of the 2015 F-150 pickup truck was a game changer, and it's the first, not the last, conversion of this type," Novelis spokesperson Charles Belbin told the Journal. The switch to aluminum has allowed Ford to shave roughly 700 pounds off its fullsize truck's curb weight. And while official mileage ratings have not been announced, the weight loss should go a long way for improving efficiency, especially when combined other efficiency-minded improvements including better aerodynamics and new, turbocharged V6 engines.
Of course, aluminum-bodied cars are nothing new. But extensive use of aluminum in a major, best-selling product like the Ford F-150 is expected to kick off widespread use of this weight-saving material as availability rises and cost decreases. The WSJ reports that GM had originally explored the idea of moving to aluminum pickups back in 2008, but abandoned the idea due to cost concerns amid economic woes.
