1989 GMC Sierra SL 2500 - 2WD
Up for sale is my trusted GMC Sierra pickup truck. NO RESERVE. I bought the truck as a work/beater truck for household/yard jobs but it turns out I seldom drive it so here it is for sale. The previous owner had this truck in a fleet as evidenced by the dirt embedded into the interior despite my best efforts to remove it. The mileage is uknown (which is why the listing showns 999,999). The odometer has never turned since I purchased the truck in 2010. The engine runs strong and has been trouble free since I purchased it. If you are looking for a basic and inexpensive work truck that you don't need to worry about putting to work and scraping it up, this one fits the bill!
Features:
5.7L V8
2WD - Two Wheel Drive
3 speed automatic
8 foot box
This truck is relatively unique in that it has very few options. It is not equipped with a/c - hence the blank out plates on the vents on the dash. Instead the truck has pull-stops to open fresh-air vents below the dash.
Radio with cassette player (non-functioning - I don't know why)
bedliner
The Good:
Runs great
Starts the first time, every time
Solid exhaust system (see photos)
Tires still have a lot of tread depth on them
The Bad:
The mileage of the truck is unknown. It reads a bit over 112,000 miles, but it was reading this when I bought the truck in the summer of 2010 and the reading has never changed.
Transmission leaks a little bit of fluid - I assume it needs a new gasket but I have never attempted to replace/repair it.
Rust (see photos)
Passenger seat-belt doesn't tension properly (latches but is not fully taught)
Radio and cassette player do not work (turns on, but no sound)
Dome light doesn't work - may just need a new bulb
Tears in the seat cushion
Fading amateur paint job
Spare tire and jack are both missing
Check engine light comes on occasionally, but doesn't stay on and doesn't seem to run any differently when the light comes on.
Please contact me if you are interested in coming to check the truck out. The truck is no longer currently registered as I just transferred plates to another vehicle so test drives will have to be limited to the side-streets in my neighborhood.
Here is the not-so-fine print:
Vehicle is sold 'AS IS' with no warranty.
Vehicle must be picked up within 14 days of end of auction.
$100 deposit required within 48 hours of close of auction.
Any bidders with a feedback rating of less than 5 will be cancelled.

Bronco, Yukon, Hummer and a CES recap | Autoblog Podcast #610
Fri, Jan 17 2020In this week's Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski and Assistant Editor Zac Palmer. They kick things off by talking about recent news, including the revival of the Hummer name as an electric pickup, revealing Ford Bronco spy shots and the unveiling of the 2021 GMC Yukon. Then Zac tells about his time in Las Vegas attending CES 2020. They talk about the cars they've been driving: a JCW-tuned Mini Clubman, the long-term Subaru Forester with its new gold wheels, a Volvo S60 PHEV that's been added to the long-term fleet, and a Camry Hybrid. Last, but not least, they help a listener decide how to spend his money on a sports car. 2014 GMC Sierra
Wed, 12 Jun 2013Is the Best GMC Truck Ever Made Good Enough?
We've got a bright aluminum Airstream camper hitched to our rear bumper as we head up Southern California's coast because GMC says that 60 percent of all full-size pickup owners will use their trucks for towing.
Rather than forcing us to absorb its capabilities in a long-winded PowerPoint presentation, the automaker brought us to Los Angeles and handed us the keys to its all-new 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. After jumping behind the wheel of a 5.3-liter V8 model, we drove up the foggy Malibu coast (locals call the soggy early-summer weather "June Gloom") and made our way to the Camarillo Airport for a towing refresher. Once completed, a brand-new 23-foot Airstream was hitched to our aft end and we were pointed towards a campground just west of Santa Barbara.
Inevitable GMC Canyon Denali spotted testing
Mon, Feb 16 2015Practically every other model in the GMC lineup already offers a more luxurious Denali option, so why not extend that to the Canyon midsize pickup? It's hardly a surprise to see the brand doing just that, especially since the standard model seems to be proving quite a success. This Canyon was recently spied testing wearing camouflage over its front end. The truck still needs to breathe, though, and the opening in the obfuscation makes it quite easy to spot the Denali's chrome mesh grille, rather than the horizontal slats of the standard model. Also, just peeking out of the bottom part of the masking is the lower air intake, which appears to be completely lined in chrome now. At the sides and rear, the styling is identical to the current look of the pickup, at least for this prototype. While our spies didn't snap any shots of the interior, it seems safe to anticipate the usual Denali upgrades there, including better materials and additional tech features. Of course, expect a bump in price at the same time to pay for the improvements.
