Alaska 7.0 earthquake uproots road but leaves vehicle completely intact
Fri, Nov 30 2018A magnitude-7 earthquake hit the Anchorage, Alaska area hard Friday morning and actually caused the National Weather Service to issue a tsunami warning it later canceled. As the news came rolling in, we noticed these photos of a road affected by the quake. The pictures are jaw-dropping, and we still can't believe that GMC Terrain is sitting there entirely unscathed. It looks like a scene straight out of an action movie when Earth is unexplainably collapsing all around the main characters as they race for safety. It probably wouldn't have mattered if the driver had the four-cylinder or V6 to try and escape the massive sinkhole. However, maybe Alaskans could consider the Lamborghini Urus to outrun collapsing roads if they're in the market for an all-wheel-drive SUV. Thankfully, there are no deaths or even injuries being reported as of now, but damage to buildings and roads is severe in some spots. We still can't believe how lucky this person is. It looks like some industrious folks were even able to pull the GMC out of its sinkhole completely intact too. Impressive. We'll keep you updated if there are any developments to this disaster. 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE spy shots show new bumpers and tailgate
Mon, Mar 12 2018When the new 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 debuted two weeks ago, GM's truck division showed off just the two top trims, SLT and Denali. While the Denali might be the flagship Sierra, it's not likely to be the volume seller (though Denali models makes up almost a third of total GMC sales). These new spy shots show off the midrange SLE trim. It takes a more conservative, toned-down appearance compared to its brash brethren. The most obvious visual changes come at the front and rear. That big grille remains, but there are just three horizontal bars rather than the busier design from the SLT or Denali. The fog lights have been removed, too, though the C-shapped LED accent in the headlights has carried over. Out back, the SLE trim makes do without the trick MultiPro tailgate (it's limited to SLT and Denali models). It also has a different bumper as the exhaust exits just behind the right wheel. Badging on the fenders indicates that the truck has the updated 5.3-liter V8, meaning it's paired with an eight-speed transmission. The 6.2-liter V8 gets the new 10-speed auto. A 3.0-liter diesel inline-six will be available sometime down the road. GMC hasn't announced pricing, fuel economy or power ratings, but expect to see something in the next few months. GM 6.2L V8 claims most powerful light-duty truck engine title
Thu, 12 Sep 2013General Motors has officially captured the horsepower crown for mainstream pickup trucks with its 6.2-liter V8. The big mill, available in both the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, comes to market with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, handily outdoing its two cross-town competitors, Ram (5.7-liter V8, 395 ponies and 407 lb-ft) and Ford (6.2-liter V8, 411 hp and 434 lb-ft).
The new GM 6.2 will take a bit of an investment, though. Those that want the extra thrust will need to go with either the LTZ or High Country trims from the Chevy, or the SLT and Denali trims from GMC, which are the two highest trim levels for the respective vehicles. Trim levels aside, if you're in the business of towing, GM has you covered. Optioned with the 6.2-liter V8 and the Max Trailering Package, owners will be able to pull 12,000 pounds, a hugely impressive figure.
We still aren't certain as to what sort of economy the new engine will get, but it'll probably be a bad bet for the fuel conscious. As for availability, expect to see the 6.2-liter trucks in showrooms later in the fall.
