Hello Folks,

I am selling my 2003 GM Pickup. I am the second owner of this truck and have owned it for most of its life. I am selling my truck to finance a move to Wyoming, which I will be taking my gas saver to lower my living costs while I am there.
I always take a lot of care with, and for my vehicles because I am very passionate about cars. The listing is correct for this truck's transmissin type even though the 5.3 liter was never offered with a mnaul transmission behind it from GM. This one is a 5 speed, with a manual shift transfer case. The original automatic from this truck worked fine, but working on vehicles is a passion of mine, and I enjoy to make them unique and well constructed. I decided to figure out a manual transmission swap for this truck and make it compatible with the 5.3 liter motor. I did my research and completed the conversion in the summer of 2011 and the truck has been running great since, with no issues. I did the swap at 88000 miles and the truck now has almost 147000 miles, so there are 59000 on the transmission and transfer case since I did the conversion. At the time of the conversion, before swapping the transmission and t-case into the truck, I rebuilt them to factory specifications.

Aside from this, I have always kept up with oil changes and regular maintenance. I always use full synthetic Amsoil in the motor, and royal purple products for the differentials. The oil was changed last at 143000 miles, so the truck will be due again soon. The differential oil was changed in the front & rear, at the same time I completed the installation of the new transmission and Transfer case.
I grease all steering components and anything with a zirk fitting (slip shaft, u-joints, etc...) monthly, and have been in the habit of brushing off any scale rust I find on the frame. At 140000 miles, I replaced all of my valve guide seals, and was pleasantly surprised with how clean the valve train looks. I was impressed so I took a picture and have included it for you to see too. At 120000 miles I had to replace my power steering box which I did with a re manufactured unit. At some point around 80000 miles I replaced the front differential seals and found a bad cv joint/hub during dis-assembly for it, which I replaced with a new Moog unit.
**(An interesting note about the seals is to make sure you always keep the vent tube clear. If it clogs, this will cause pressure to build and wear out the seals, as was the case for my truck. I rerouted this tube, to make it more accessible, and now I am in the habit of checking it when I check the oil and belts, and have had no issues since)**.  I recently put on new shocks all around-- nothing too fancy; just some dependable gas charged ones by Monroe that I have had good success with on other vehicles, and make for a nice smooth ride. Lastly, this truck has four wheel disc brakes, and I replaced the rear rotors, caliper guide pins and boots this past month.

 A few negative things I want to point out on the truck;

-The throw out bearing can be heard when the truck is running and sitting still. The noise does not affect the drive-ability of the vehicle, and is not audible while driving, which is why I have not replaced it. I have thought a lot about this and I do know that there is a spring that keeps the throw out in contact with the pressure plate and sometimes when old will allow for movement of the throw out away from the fingers. I am suspect of this, but have not felt it necessary to go through the work of removing the slave cylinder to troubleshoot, since I have yet to notice an effect on driving or an increase in noise level.  There is a possibility that it could be in the early stages of failure, or have contaminant build up inside it and need cleaning. The part is cheap but the job can take a descent amount of time to complete. If this is the case, I do not want you to be unaware of the possibility prior to purchasing and feel you have been deceived. That is not my intention, I want to sell my truck to another person like me, who is passionate about their vehicles, and will get the same joy out of owning this truck as I have had.

            - The truck does not have the front portion of the emergency brake cable currently installed. I have the part, but have not installed it, honestly due to my infrequent use of the system. - Most of the time I leave truck in gear when parked, and as a result I do not regularly recall that I need to                     install it.

-The truck has the abs and service brake light on the dash. This is on currently due to a sensor wire that has worn through on the front right tire. I have the replacement sensor for the truck, and will either provide it with the truck to the new owner, or, if you'd like, I can install it for you before                 you come to pick it up.

I have tried my best to describe my truck to you, short of coming to see it. - (Which you are absolutely welcome to do if you live in the Western New York area.)  If there is anything else you would like to know about the truck, please do not hesitate to ask! My name is Frank, and you can either reach me through Ebay, or if you'd like, by phone, with either a text message or, preferably, a phone call. I have more pictures available and would be happy to talk about it with you.My number is 716 868 8501.

**I don't know how to ship a vehicle cost effectively, so you will have to be able to come get the truck or arrange for the shipping of it. I'll be happy to work with you on that though for instance, if it needs to be picked up, or if you want to put it on the road to drive it home.

Best Regards & Thanks!

          -Frank

GM earnings rise 1% as buyers pay more for popular pickups

Thu, Aug 1 2019

DETROIT — General Motors said Thursday that higher prices for popular pickup trucks and SUVs helped overcome slowing global sales and profit rose by 1% in the second quarter. The Detroit automaker said it made $2.42 billion, or $1.66 per share, from April through June. Adjusting for restructuring costs, GM made $1.64 per share, blowing by analyst estimates of $1.44. Quarterly revenue fell 2% to $36.06 billion, but still beat estimates. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $35.97 billion. Global sales fell 6% to 1.94 million vehicles led by declines in North America and Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa. The company says sales in China were weak, and it expects that to continue through the year. In the United States, customers paid an average of $41,461 for a GM vehicle during the quarter, an increase of 2.2%, as buyers went for loaded-out pickups and SUVs, according to the Edmunds.com auto pricing site. The U.S. is GM's most profitable market. Chief Financial Officer Dhivya Suryadevara said she expects the strong pricing to continue, especially as GM rolls out a diesel pickup and new heavy-duty trucks in the second half of the year. "We think the fundamentals do remain strong, especially in the truck market," she said, adding that strength in the overall economy and aging trucks now on the road should help keep the trend going. Light trucks accounted for 83.1% of GM's sales in the quarter, and pickup truck sales rose 8.5% as GM transitioned to new models of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, according to Edmunds, which provides content to The Associated Press. As usual, GM made most of its money in North America, reporting $3 billion in pretax earnings. International operations including China broke even, while the company spent $300 million on its GM Cruise automated vehicle unit. Its financial arm made $500 million in pretax income. Suryadevara said GM saw $700 million in savings during the quarter from restructuring actions announced late last year that included cutting about 8,000 white-collar workers through layoffs, buyouts and early retirements. The company also announced plans to close five North American factories, shedding another 6,000 jobs. About 3,000 factory workers in the U.S. whose jobs were eliminated at four plants will be placed at other factories, but they could have to relocate. GM expects the restructuring to generate $2 billion to $2.5 billion in annual cost savings by the end of this year.

How Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra will take on the Ford F-150 profit machine

Fri, Aug 10 2018

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — When General Motors engineers were developing the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks, some of them joined public tours of Ford's Dearborn, Mich., factory to watch aluminum-bodied F-Series trucks go down the assembly line. The redesign of the Ford F-Series trucks, launched in 2014, set a new standard for fuel economy and lightweight vehicle construction. But armed with stopwatches and trained eyes, the GM engineers believed they saw problems. "They had a real hard time getting those doors to fit," Tim Herrick, the executive chief engineer for GM truck programs, told Reuters. His team did more intelligence gathering. They bought and tore apart Ford F-Series doors sold as repair parts. Their conclusion: GM could cut weight in its trucks for a lower cost using doors made of a combination of aluminum and high-strength steel that could be thinner than standard steel, shaving off kilograms in the process. These pounds-and-pennies decisions will have major implications in the highest-stakes game going in Detroit: dominance in the world's most profitable vehicle market, the gasoline-fueled large pickup segment. What's more, GM is banking on strong sales of overhauled 2019 Silverados and GMC Sierras to fund its push into automated and electric vehicles — a business many investors see as the auto industry's long-term future. The risks are high given the hits automakers have taken from U.S. President Donald Trump's trade policies. Rising aluminum prices spurred by Trump's tariffs are driving up costs on the Ford's F-Series, while rising steel and aluminum prices likewise drag on GM results. GM also has a significant risk should the United States, Mexico and Canada fail to agree on a new NAFTA trade deal, given GM trucks built at its Silao, Mexico, factory could face a 25 percent tariff if NAFTA collapses. Major profit per truck Interviews with GM executives and a tour at its factory here in northwest Indiana provide a detailed look inside GM's plan for the most important vehicles in its global lineup. These big pickups are everything Tesla's Model 3 or Chevy's Bolt electric car is not. The mostly steel body is bolted to the truck's steel frame, rather than the one-piece body and frame electric vehicles. The majority of trucks will have a V-8 gasoline engine powering the rear wheels — like the classic GM cars of the 1950s. Some Silverados will have new four-cylinder engines, but there is no electric or hybrid offering as of now.

GMC teases Hummer EV's removable roof panels

Wed, May 20 2020

Today was supposed to be the day that GM took the wraps off its GMC Hummer EV. We were told as much during the Super Bowl commercial, but GM revised it to an undecided future date, citing the coronavirus as the reason. Instead of the big reveal, we have a teaser.  The Hummer EV is going to feature removable roof panels, and now we get a better look at them. There are four roof panels and a front T-bar that come out of the truck. You can see what that looks like in the video at the top of this post. Comparisons to Jeep are obvious as the open-air experience is likely similar to the Gladiator and Wrangler with their hardtop roof panels removed. That zero-limits slogan makes a bit of sense from this respect. With the sheer number of roof panels, we suspect a single person will be able to remove them alone. In addition to the video of the roof, we get a small peek at the massive digital screens the Hummer will be sporting. Check them out at the bottom of the photo below. They appear to be two large slabs, separate from each other. Other details are scarce on the ground. We’re not sure when the Hummer will make its grand entrance at this point, but are still excited to see the 1,000-horsepower truck hit the road. GMC is still advertising the 0-60 mph time of just 3 seconds, too. The latest tidbit of news suggests that further teasers might be coming, so we could be in for a rather drawn out reveal process. Our senior green editor John Snyder got to see the GMC Hummer in person earlier this year at GMÂ’s EV Day and described it like this: “ItÂ’s a big, off-road-ready pickup complete with giant all-terrain rubber and tow hooks. It features removable roof panels for access to the open sky, which appears to be depicted in the teaser above. It features sail panels behind the C-pillars, similar to those on the Chevy Avalanche and Honda Ridgeline. Its bed was concealed with a tonneau cover, but it sported GMCÂ’s MultiPro tailgate that we first saw on the Sierra Denali. Interior photos showed a spacious interior with blocky shapes, squared hourglass vents that mirror the look of the taillights and a lunar theme that incorporates the topography of the Sea of Tranquility into things like the floor mats and speaker covers. It also has a large infotainment screen as well as a digital instrument panel.” Related video:
