Salem, New Jersey, United States

This vehicle has been mine for the past 3 1/2 years.  It is a good running truck and not quite the gas hog that one would expect.  It is currently being run every day.  No problems to speak of as far as the way it runs.

Now, this truck has the body of a 1994, it's actual model year, and the engine of a 2007.  I bought it from the owner of Van's Body Parts in Bridgeton, NJ.  He had been given this truck by his mother-in-law and he began refurbishing it for his wife.  She then refused to try anything but a new truck so it went up for sale.  He pulled the engine out of it and replaced it with a Chevy crate engine.  This is the reason is gets the mileage that it does.  He also pulled the bucket seats out of a Chevy Silverado.  Tey have the the automatic controls with power lumbar.

This truck is not pretty.  It has faded color and also has scratches.  If you are looking for a Suburban that is showroom new, keep looking please.

This truck has an am/fm radio and cassette player.  The cassette player is temperamental.   I use the radio only.  The heater works well and the AC blows ice cold.  It has dual climate control.  The seats in the front are so comfortable.  We took this truck on all of our family vacations and outings with friends.  It has a nice console in the front between the seats that is spacious, you can store a lot in it.

The second seat is a bench seat with a pull down console that has drink holders and is great for using as a tray when you are eating on the run or when little ones are doing homework, crafts, etc.  each seat has cargo nets for stashing things.

The 3rd seat is removeable.  There is a spare tire.  The rear window has its own wiper.  It also rear window defrost.  The 4 wheel drive works great and this truck plows through snow and rain.  We have a cabin in the mountains and the driveway is over a mile long.  It is steep and muddy and this truck didn't get stuck when others with newer vehicles did!

The tires are OK.  The rims are nice.  The headliner is a little droopy but still tight.  All in all, it is a great truck.  The reason for sale is my family has down sized and my husband is getting a company truck.  So, we need to get rid of one.  We chose this one since the kids that are left at home fit in both of our trucks.  Our oldest is now out on his own so being a family of 5, we fit in the trucks.

Surprise! GM putting aluminum in next-gen pickups

Wed, Aug 5 2015

Last month, General Motors launched a series of ads touting the benefits of steel over aluminum – specifically, with regard to the Chevy Silverado versus the Ford F-150. (Kind of. We're not sure what a grizzly bear has to do with anything.) We took issue with the ads, with editor in chief Mike Austin saying they "reek of insecurity, and distract from the Silverado's strengths that could be used for positive advertising." But what bothers us more, is that yet another report surfaced claiming anti-aluminum GM will indeed use the weight-saving material in its next-generation fullsize trucks. On Tuesday, GM announced a $877-million investment for its truck plant in Flint, MI. But Reuters says that huge overhaul is because the trucks will use "substantially different equipment than the tools GM uses today." The report specifically states, "People familiar with the company's plans say GM's next-generation pickups and SUVs will make use of various materials, including aluminum and lightweight steel, to shed weight and gain fuel efficiency to meet tougher federal standards." The Silverado already uses a few aluminum components in the engine and hood, and if more widespread use will help GM build its best fullsize trucks ever, then that's great. Honestly, we have no reason to doubt that aluminum will be used in the next Silverado and GMC Sierra. We just hope GM remembers that nothing is ever truly deleted from the bowels of the Internet when it launches the subsequent "look how great aluminum is!" campaign. MotorWeek looks back at 1995 Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon

Sat, Jun 20 2015

MotorWeek's Retro Review series gives us a nostalgic look back at some of the best sports cars and luxury sedans available in the 1980s and '90s. For its latest clip, the show shifts gears to remember the 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon. Similar to the success of crossovers today, SUVs were tallying big sales and making big money for automakers in the mid-'90s. The Tahoe and Yukon filled slots in the market as steps down from the larger Suburban. These twins weren't wanting for space, though, with plenty of room to haul around a family. MotorWeek came away generally impressed too, and called the models some "of the better riding sport utilities we've ever experienced." This review comes with some jazzy, electric guitar licks to enjoy in the background.

Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon get updated tachometers due to graphical error

Sun, Feb 8 2015

After James Bearing bought a Chevrolet Colorado, he noticed a discrepancy between the truck's spec sheet and the truck's tachometer: Chevrolet said 3.6-liter V6 in the little pickup produces 305 horsepower at 6,800 rpm, but the the tachometer indicates a redline at 6,500 rpm. So either he wasn't making as much power as he was promised, or the tachometer display was incorrect. Bearing said he asked Chevy about it but got no response. Until now. A General Motors spokesman said the rev limiter is indeed set for 6,800 rpm, but the tach graphics "are slightly off" in the Colorado and the GMC Canyon, and submitted an SAE horsepower certification to back him up. If you're wondering how such a thing got past quality control... well, let's just say you're not alone. GM is going to fix "the graphics on future trucks," which makes it sound like Bearing will just have to learn to live with the indicated redline he's got. He could always pretend he's driving a sleeper, with four more ponies waiting to be unlocked in the danger zone for those who dare.
