Nice, solid GMC 2500 4x4. Extended cab with rear doors both sides, 6.0 liter engine, 4L80E transmission. Loaded up with just about everything except leather. Cruise, tilt, power seats, windows, locks with keyless entry, rear defroster, a/c (not presently working but I haven't looked to find out why, all parts are there), overhead console. Pretty clean interior, but the carpet could use a shampoo. Body pretty good, does have the typical paint peeling around the bottom, and a little underneath the fuel door, but overall very solid and still looks pretty good. Stains along the bottom are just oil residue from when I had it undercoated. Comes with a Backrack, aluminum tool box, tires are BFG All Terrains with about 80% tread (one upsize to 285/75R16 8 ply), trailer package with electric brake controller. Truck was certified and emission tested a couple months ago, and at that time I replace the front brake rotors, pads, and calipers, and the rear rotors, pads, calipers, parking brake shoes, and cables. Recently replaced the alternator, battery, water pump, and intake manifold gaskets. No trouble lights on in the dash, runs and drives great, pulls hard and sounds great (aftermarket exhaust). Recently changed transmission oil and filter, and saw no issues with the fluid, has trans temp gauge and it's never been over the quarter mark even when towing. I've had the truck for a little over a year, and am only selling it to upgrade to a dually. Buyer is responsible for shipping, however, I will deliver it to the Canadian side of the Niagara, Detroit, or Port Huron border crossings for an additional $300. I WILL NOT cross the border with it, that is up to you.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

GM will no longer remove parts from trucks to calculate curb weights

Fri, 08 Aug 2014

Following last week's mild uproar after it was discovered that Ford and General Motors were removing some optional parts from their pickups to lower the curb weight and consequently increase the maximum payload, GM has come out and committed to a base curb weight for its upcoming Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon compact trucks (although it has yet to publish them) and its current Silverado and Sierra. The company will do the same for its heavy duty offerings, although those numbers have not been finalized yet.
"This will make our curb weight and payload specs more consistent with those of most other truck makers, making it easier for customers to compare vehicles," GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson told Autoblog in an emailed statement.
As GM notes - and as every manufacturer has noted since this story broke - customers still shouldn't take max payload ratings as gospel. Instead, they should refer to their truck's Tire and Load Label, like the one shown at the inset, which will offer detailed information on max payload, specific to their truck.

GMC doesn't care if it's Mt. McKinley or Denali

Tue, Sep 1 2015

GMC is getting a mountain of free publicity from President Obama's decision to rename the former Mt. McKinley back to Denali in Alaska. The truck-and-SUV brand is happy to see the moniker of its high-end trim in the news, but doesn't intend to change any marketing because of the switch. "It had no impact or change on our strategy," a GMC spokesperson told the Detroit Free Press. The brand doesn't expect sales to change, though the frequent use of the word Denali in the news in a positive light amounts to free, albeit temporary, advertising for the company. Denali is the word for the nation's tallest mountain in the Koyukon Athabascan language, and it means "the high one." In 1896 a prospector rechristened the peak Mt. McKinley to support presidential candidate William McKinley. He won the election, but was assassinated in 1901. The title stuck, and the site officially got the name when a national park was created there. Since then, there has been a push to return to the original moniker, and according to the Free Press, the park became Denali in 1980. Now, the peak has followed suit. GMC started using Denali to denote the top models on the 1999 Yukon. Today, it's available as an upmarket alternative on most of the brand's lineup.
